Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0753hrs LZ Liz South OP at grid BS767406 we have spotted 8 to 9 VC with packs and weapons. We requested gun ships or warlords at 0800hrs. At 0925hrs 6-11 Artillery Intelligence Report, we have a large tunnel complex at grid BS791319 to BS791317. Charlie Company was informed to check out the area. At 1006hrs Brigade the RTO will not use any slang on the radio. For instance "how’s your copy" use "Did you get a good copy". At 1250hrs Brigade LRRP Idaho is at grid BS681445. At 1400hrs The Brigade Commander arrived at LZ Liz and was briefed by Commander and the S-3. The Battalion Commander accompanied the Brigade Commander to the South OP, returned at 1420hrs and the Brigade Commander departed LZ Liz at 1500hrs. At 1540hrs The Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz at 1540hrs and departed at 1555hrs. At 1940hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Young, 585, must return to LZ Bronco for a congressional investigation. At 2100hrs 1-20 how many claymores do you have? Alpha Company has 21 and needs 8 firing devices. Bravo Company has 21 claymores, Charlie Company has 15 claymores and Recon has 21 claymores.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0645hrs Alpha Company we are moving to our blocking positions from BS790483 to BS795462. At 0855hrs Alpha Company we have 7 Vietnamese male detainees age 16-24, who were evading in the water. The 16 years old is the only one who has an ID. At 1005hrs Alpha Company the Commanding Officer and 64 element are returning to the Day Logger and the 04 and 44 are still checking the area of BS790468. We had negative results and moving back to Day Logger. At 1025hrs Alpha Company all elements have closed on Day Logger at BS804447. At 1100hrs we have 7 Vietnamese civilian detainees (5 were at BS790475 and 2 were at BS790480). At 1725hrs Alpha Company closed on BS793505. At 1915hrs Alpha Company 24 has received three rounds of small arms fire from BS784502. At 1845hrs Snake location is 44 at BS787793, 24 vicinity BS784500, and 25 at BS780507.
Bravo Company

At 0607hrs Bravo Company 47 closed on BS783433 and 25 is closing at BS787424. At 0630hrs Bravo 07 element is moving out of their snake to check out the area that Artillery and 4.2 mortar fired last night. The 26 element closed on the Southern bridge. At 0700hrs Bravo Company our Combat Assault from BSBS783433 at 0702hrs had 6 ships in one left, the LZ where at BS777477 (red), BS781478 (yellow) and BS788486 (purple). At 0725hrs Bravo Company reports we made a snatch of 4 Military age males. One had in his possession a 5.56mm steel ammo box and some clothing which where OD in color. The others VCS dressed in a wearing blue type uniforms, (grid BS781478). At 0755hrs Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off Requested 1 Vietnamese Boy who was shot in the chest at BS778475. There was 1 Vietnamese VC with gunshot wounds at BS780480. 1 Vietnamese baby with frag wounds in the leg in the vicinity of BS779473, they completed at 0800hrs, 0810hrs and 0827hrs respectively. At 0756hrs Bravo Company there has been 10 Vietnamese detainees brought back to LZ Liz. Three were Dust Off by Dolphin 26. One with a gunshot to the rear, one a gunshot wound to the hand and one gunshot wound in the back at Grid BS781478. Bravo Company also had 1 VC KIA with one (US) slightly wounded and 1 Vietnamese civilian wounded at grid BS781478. At 0825hrs Bravo Company my 04 element got 1 VC KIA female age 35, who was wearing a black sweater and pajamas. She had no weapon or ID card. She was evading from the area where the 04 element received a heavy volume of fire at grid BS784474. At 0840hrs Gorilla element got 1 VC KIA male age 25 who was wearing a white shirt and black pants, he had no ID or weapon and was evading from the area of sniper fire. Sharks got 1 VC KIA age 30 who was wearing black pajamas and Bravo company request Priority Dust Off for 1 VC with a gun shot wound of the foot, he received these wounds from the gun ships, completed at 0850hrs. At 0856hrs Bravo Company the 44 element spotted 15 to 20 VC/NVA carrying weapons, evading to the east. We engaged them with small arms and received return fire with negative results. At 0902hrs Bravo Company the Ranger element and 21 element have 7 Vietnamese detainees (6 males ages 20 to 35 years and 1 female age 30 years), all the individuals were evading from the area, no ID at grid BS777477. At 0925hrs Bravo Company the 04 element found a ammo can with a hammock and documents in it also a parachute at grid BS782438. The Rangers found a NVA pistol belt and M26 grenade attached to it at grid BS777477. At 0943hrs Bravo Company the 04 element found 2 M26 grenades and some time fuse in a family bunker at grid BS784474. At 0955hrs the 05 patrol has moved out on their patrol at 0845hrs. At 1251hrs Bravo Company the items we collected on our mission included, 1 NVA pistol belt and poncho, 1 M26 grenade, 1 brown uniform, 1 hammock, 1 blue uniform shirt. Also found 1 rubber hose for breathing, 1 cigarette lighter, 1 bush hat, 5 pounds of rice, black clothing, 1 multi-colored towel, tooth brushes, 1 P38, two empty penicillin bottles and writing pens. At 1858hrs Bravo Company the 46 element is in location at BS783438 and the 26 element is moving to BS787408. At 2010hrs Bravo Company snake location 25 at BS786423, 26 is at BS787408 and 09 is at BS783443.
Charlie Company

At 0729hrs Charlie Company we are sending out the 45 element to patrol northwest of BS769384. At 0915hrs Charlie Company are in the Day Logger position at BS770369. At 1640hrs Charlie Company report of mission conducted today. At Charlie Company reports at grid BS784341 we found a trench line running north to south and hidden on the eastside of a large open strip by heavy brush, approximately 3’ wide and a good place to travel, there was no sign of use. At grid BS772360 and BS776356 the dog alerted to a trail, negative results on the search. Charlie Company at grid BS7735 and BS7834 there were numerous trails to the mountains. At the same grids there were 12 trails, freshly made through tall grass, running east to west, negative results of search of BS7833. At grid BS7735 we found some mackerel cans. Charlie Company morning reports (PFC Antonio J. Nunes?) was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0940hrs Delta Company all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1930hrs Delta Company report the 25 is at BS758407, 26 at BS762437, 06 at BS767439 and the 46 at BS772442.
Echo Company
January 5, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0631hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 8, Observed Mission 4 and Unobserved Mission 1 for a total of 32 HE, 25 WP, 40 Illumination and 13 C/S rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0845hrs Recon Platoon we are moving off LZ Liz and moving to BS704421. At 1032hrs Recon reports our present location is at BS761408 and at 1040hrs we are leaving location and moving to the west. At 1215hrs Recon Platoon we are at grid BS745418, and at 1240hrs checking out the area at BS764426 and at 1402hrs we are moving west from our location. At 1535hrs Recon reports present location is at BS709425 and at 1717hrs report at BS704407. At 1755hrs report our Night Defense Position is at BS706427 and we closed at 1855hrs.
