Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0013hrs Saber 40 is on station for Box 69. At 0030hrs Saber Black 40 is on station for Box 69 sighted 2 VC evading northwest into a wood line, engaged with negative results. At 0037hrs proceeded to Box 60, negative results and broke station at 0100hrs. At 0558hrs Weather: mostly cloudy with drizzle, Temperature 63-69 with humidity 70 to 90% winds northwest at 10-18 knots, outlook through Sunday some change. At 1103hrs Helix 31 is on station. At 1103hrs Helix 31 is on station. At 1325hrs Box Car 17 vicinity BS752556 was departing OP Frag going to the southwest Bravo Company 2nd Platoon heard approximately 4 rounds of small arms fire from the vicinity of BS752556. At 1510hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1525hrs Hornet 16 is on station for AMC also 2 lift ships and 2 gun ships. At 1600hrs Primo 6 is breaking station at this time. At 1610hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Combat Assault was completed. At 2259hrs Q Company radar set down, request extraction for repairs tomorrow. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 64-99, 3rd Platoon 04-09, 4th Platoon 34-39, CO-21.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
February 5, 1971

Alpha Company leaves LZ Bronco at 1120hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon at check point vicinity BS740437, 1125hrs Command Post 3rd and 4th Platoon vicinity BS736437, 2nd Platoon Patrol Check Point 2 vicinity BS738430. At 1230hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoon Patrol Base at BS729437 with 1st Platoon at BS733462 and 2nd Platoon is at BS719420. At 1620hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon Checkpoint 2 at BS728468, 3rd Platoon is at checkpoint 2 BS723433 and 2nd Platoon is at checkpoint 1 at BS708418. At 1935hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon location BS723424, Command Post 3rd and 4th Platoon BS729436, 3rd Platoon ambush BS723424, 1st Platoon BS728463, BS722767 and 2nd Platoon BS717415, BS721420. At 2156hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS723424 3rd Platoon while in their night ambush location 1 trip flare ignite, had possible movement, engaged with hand frag, swept the area with negative finding.

 

Bravo Company
February 5, 1971

Bravo Company at 0800hrs all element moving to LZ Liz and closed by 0955hrs. At 1325hrs Box Car 17 vicinity BS752556 was departing OP Frag to the southwest and Bravo Company 2nd Platoon heard approximately 4 rounds of small arms fire from the vicinity of above grid. Bravo Company has taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Charlie Company
February 5, 1971

At 1900hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS668579, OP Wood stock received 8 to 10 rounds (60mm) landed inside the wire, 1 PF WIA and engaging with artillery. At 1920 the OP has received a total of 15 rounds from BS679578 with 2 PF WIA with minor wounds, negative Dust Off is required. Had a total received of 20-21 60mm mortar rounds, of 3 PF WIA, only 2 requiring routine Dust Off received 1 more round after artillery was fired. Inside the wire, none in perimeter, 1 RF WIA very minor and 2 will need routine Dust Off and MACV will handle it. At 1959hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS669562 has trip wire ignited on perimeter of OP Wink. Charlie Company engaged with M-79 will check the area out at first light. At 2058hrs Charlie Company IOS at OP Wink sighted 50 VC/NVA in a file formation is moving southeast at a distance of 1440 meters. Fired 81mm and artillery, gun ships came on station with negative findings. Saber Black 40 checking the area took small arms fire from a hooch, and engaged the area with negative results

 

Delta Company
February 5, 1971

Delta Company is location on LZ Liz and has taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz and Road Security.

 

Echo Company
February 5, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1800hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS654583.
