Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0735hrs Resupply ship is on station. At 0825hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road has been mine swept. At 2019hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 1, Charlie 2 and Delta 1 for a total of 4 out. At 2040hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength: Alpha 53, Charlie 46, Delta 55, Recon 12 and HHC 8. At 2200hrs PF 158 E Platoon made contact with unknown size enemy force at grid BS709555 resulting I 1 PF WIA, 2 VC KIA. At 2253hrs 1-20 Infantry Inferno Blue is working Box 52 and at 2333hrs checking perimeters Bronco next at 2344hrs LZ Liz and broke station at 0010hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97, CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
August 5, 1971
Alpha Company continued to conducts saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1905hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon moving to Night Defense Position at BS743387 and at 2016hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon close on location and they have 1 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company
August 5, 1971
Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz and Access Road security. At 0725hrs reports Liz Access Road mine swept is completed.
Charlie Company
August 5, 1971
At 0815hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon moving to BS657481 and at 1115hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon closed on Patrol Base at BS655475. At 2015hrs Charlie Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS657484 with 2 Mechanical ambushes out tonight. Today Charlie Company field strength is 46. At 2048hrs Charlie Company heard movement from 6 locations 15 to 25 meters to their west at 2119hrs they engaged the area with small arms fire, Artillery, HE and Illumination rounds with negative results and will sweep again at first light.
Delta Company
August 5, 1971
At 0815hrs Delta Company is moving to grid BS655476. At 1030hrs Delta Company found bunker at grid BS654474, 4 X 6 inside, only half built with top made out of the logs, 5 to 7 inches thick believed to be VC or NVA bunker, hasn’t been used recently and at 1110hrs Delta Company is now located at BS655475. At 1920hrs Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS65054765 and at 2024hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon in now in their Night Defense Position at BS651477.
Echo Company
August 5, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0606hrs Recon is moving back to LZ Liz.
