Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0850hrs Delta Company 19th Engineers at BS840330 in Village at bridge 108 the Vietnamese brought 2 mines to engineer element 1 25-30 pound has 2 caps ready for command detonation and other is cylinder shaped 1’ long X 4" diameter. Also secured mines will destroy and notified 1-20 Infantry S-5 will pay the Vietnamese for the mines.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Thunder.
Bravo Company
August 5, 1968
Bravo Company reports they are still working in the BA TO Area of Operation. At 0830hrs Bravo Company at BS557392 observed 3 VC in Khaki uniforms running from a hut, engaged with small arms fire were about 300 meters away, results unknown. Bravo Company was searching hut and tunnel complex with found 1 French carbine #P22165, VC KIA (dressed in green uniform), 2 M-14 rounds, 12 carbine rounds, 179mm bandoleer and 1 canteen. Tunnel was about 8’ long 2’ high and 2.5’ wide.
Charlie Company

At 0820hrs Charlie Company is located at BS815401. At 1215hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS823398. At 1745hrs Charlie Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS823403 with ambushes at BS809407, BS733397 and BS767357. At 1953hrs 20 and 30 tripped a booby trap (suspect a 105mm round with trip wire) Results 2 US KHA, 2 US WHA condition serious (1 of which is Dog Handler) and there was 5 US WHA multiple frag wounds condition fair. Dust Off completed at 2110hrs. All WHA where evac to Chu Lai and Charlie Company will search and clear the area in morning the Scout Dog was uninjured. At 2020hrs 1-20 Infantry Dog Team at BS894199 Delta 10 found booby trap 105 round the dog wouldn’t go any further, a snake is down the trail further, will keep it under observation till morning. SGT HERMAN WILLIAM SCHERMANN and SGT JAMES PAUL YOUNG LISTED AS KHA. Charlie Company reports the following PFC Clinton L. Harris, SP4 Edward G. Baker (see August 6, 1968), PVT Albert J Lyons, PFC Rosa Robert Molina, PFC Joel Craig, and John J. Miclon where evac to 2nd and 27th Surgical Hospitals.
Delta Company
August 5, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 1745hrs with ambushes Delta Company has their ambushes at BS895200 and BS895199 with 2 LP’s at BS933221 and BS905205. At 2020hrs Delta Company Dog team at BS894199 found booby trap 105 Artillery round will blow at first light. The dog wouldn’t go any further and a snake is down the trail further on.
Echo Company
August 5, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon is location at LZ Bronco Stand Down and preparing for up coming operation.
