Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Dottie and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations. At 1025hrs a 5 Ton Dump Truck at BS798400 Sweep Team detonated 40 pound mine. Driver thrown from truck with head and legs wounds 1 WHA (E). At 1940hrs Message from Colonel Quinn I do not think the coming operation was compromised today. It appears that the SGT that reported this misunderstood the grid. I do not believe she knew anything at all. At 2135hrs Swift Boat representative will meet with 1-20 Infantry at LT Dottie tomorrow at 1030hrs concerning plan operation.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1455hrs 1-20 Rear reports EOD blew some ammo in the area at LZ Bronco and out of items 2/3 of an 81mm round land within the perimeter and at 1700-1720hrs is being worked on now.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company at 1240hrs is located at BS562870 and at 1137hrs at BS568871 found what looks to be a VC Base Camp that was occupied about 4 days ago. Dense foliage area, they had cut the bottoms out of the bushes and crawled under them. At 1455hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS557865. At 1555hrs Alpha Company is at BS548857and at 1604hrs at BS548877 found 2 CS AP mines, will mark and leave in place. At 1618hrs Alpha Company is at BS548854 and moving into our Night Defense Position when one man tripped an anti personnel mine with results 3 US WHA. One very serious, 2 not so serious all Dust Off to Chu Lai by Command and Control completed at 1625hrs. Alpha Company Night Defense Position is at BS550858. PFC Yernon G. Richter was evac to 312th Evac Hospital. PFC William McAlarney multi-frag wounds 312 Evac Hospital.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie and continued to prepare for Operation LOGAN FIELD October 7, 1968.
Charlie Company
October 4, 1968
At 1240hrs Charlie Company reported their location at BS615719 as they continued their reaction force mission. At 1800hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS615719. At 1949hrs 3 helicopters landed at Quang Ngai Airstrip due to weather and Charlie Company would secure the helicopters. At 2226hrs 3-1 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter transferred VCS to control of Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry for security.
Delta Company

At 0852hrs Delta Company at BS535835 picked up 1 VCS approximately 18 years old, no ID was wearing black shirt and purple shorts, was trying to evade, shoulder were rubbed raw as if carrying something heavy. At 1120hrs Delta Company at BS526857 observed 5 VC with heavy packs, called in artillery will check area. At 1137hrs found what looks to be a VC base camp that was occupied about 4 days ago. Dense foliage area, they cut the bottoms out of the brushes and crawled under them. At 1745hrs Delta Company at 1745hrs LZ Buff received 1 round sniper fired, returned fire with 81mm at BS548820.
Echo Company
October 4, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Dottie where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Dottie. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Dottie where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1240hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Dottie. 1LT Ronald Hopper was evac to 1st Medical Battalion at 1200hrs sick.
