Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 4, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 0650hrs to 0706hrs LZ Cork under attack at BS4661 and BS4660 20 incoming rounds results 5 WHA and 1 ARVN WIA. Run Down 1 Charlie Company 26 Engineer with 1 Evac and 1 Minor, 1 ARVN evac, HHC 11 Infantry Brigade 3 WHA evac, 6-11 artillery 1 WHA evac, 4-3 Infantry WHA evac. At 1314hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter at BS413611 observed a large hooch complex fairly new and well camouflaged. 11th Infantry Brigade reports Aerial Scouts will Visual Recon for the 1-20 Infantry from 0730hrs to 0930hrs and from 1300hrs to 1530hrs. At 1545hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Recon Platoon 4-3 Infantry reports their location at BS458609. At 1620hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Recon Platoon 4-3 Infantry at BS458614 observed 3 VC dressed in white the Aerial Scouts are checking the area.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1730hrs MACV at BS724570 ambush at Bridge 120 results 1 US KHA E-3, 1 US WHA E-7 was hit in arms, leg, chest and stomach groin very seriously, found 1 AK magazine on eastside of road. MACV personnel from Mo Duc Dust Off attempts to evacuate ¾ ton Vehicle.

 

Alpha Company
November 4, 1968

At 0950hrs Alpha Company at BS434631 found 10 huts also 1 81mm round, 6 anti tank mines and a well used trail. At 1120hrs Alpha Company (-) is at BS434631 with the 52 element at BS446623. At 1145hrs Alpha Company 1 Chi Com Hand grenade, 1 empty ammo box, 1 expended 20mm, 1 bra, 6 anti tank mines, sight 8 camouflaged huts, well use trails, 4 mine sets, 1 blasting cap and 4 packages C-4, 4 NVA packs, 1 81 round 81mm mortars. At 1545hrs Alpha Company is located at BS433632 and at 1700hrs Alpha Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS431632.

 

Bravo Company
November 4, 1968

Bravo Company Continue to use Combat Sweep operations in their Area of Operation and at 1048hrs Bravo Company at BS427623 received AK 47 fire from grid BS427623and the Command and Control helicopter is in the area checking. At 1120hrs Bravo Company reports their location at BS427623. At 1245hrs Bravo Company is located at BS415573, and at 1255hrs Bravo Company is at BS413611 found a base camp, company size contained hootch frames not use for 3 to 4 days. At 1314hrs Command and Control helicopter is over the location observed a large hootch complex fairly new and well camouflaged. At 1600hrs Bravo Company at BS406615 found 3 new 82mm rounds destroyed in place. At 1700hrs Bravo Company is located at BS407620. Bravo Company reports Sp4 Charles N. Schnell was evac to the 312th Evac Hospital (Friar) at grid coordinates BS428632 at 1730hrs.

 

Charlie Company
November 4, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Combat Sweep operation in their Area of Operation. At 0904hrs Charlie Company requested Dust Off for 2 US, one with snakebite and other with chest pains, Dust Off completed at 0930hrs. At 1120hrs Charlie Company is located at BS435622 and will use it as a Patrol Base and continued to search and sweep the area. At 1425hrs Charlie Company at BS413617 received small arms fire with negative hits, returned fire results 1 NVA KIA wearing green uniform and at 1620hrs Charlie Company in their Night Defense Position at BS431628. At 2110hrs 1-20 Infantry to Charlie Company Combat Assault tomorrow at 0700hrs to LZ BS410628 and expect 6 Lifts. Charlie Company reports PFC George A. Pete with snakebite was evac to 312 Evac Hospital.

 

Delta Company
November 4, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Cork. LZ Cork at 0650hrs under mortar attack from BS4664, BS4660 and by 0705hrs, we received 20 incoming round. Results is 1-20 Infantry has 3 WHA and ARVN at LZ Cork had 1 WHA also 4-3 Infantry Recon Platoon had 1 WHA at for a total of 5 WHA (E) and 10 WHA (M). Delta Company reports SGT William Kelley, PFC Jerry Wilkerson and PFC Jesse D. Rickers were evac to 312th Evac Hospital.

 

Echo Company
November 4, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). SP4 John D. Clement (11C20) was evac to 312th Evac Hospital at 1355hrs sick. At 0931hrs Recon Platoon at BS419632 found old base camp 4 huts, 2 well dug fox holes, 1 large double oven and a slue that runs 100 meters up the mountain. At 1120hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS419632. At 1147hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Recon Platoon reports Base Battalion size, 1 bakery, 7 huts 4 fox holes, 30 bunkers, 3 latrines, 1 recoilless rifle position, 1 under ground Command Post room for 4 people. All bunkers were set with a primary and secondary post. At 1205hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS423633 and observed 1 platoon of NVA too far off to tell if they had weapons or packs or what kind of uniforms they had. At 1545hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS458609. At 1700hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS425642.
