Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0330hs LZ Liz Bunker Inspection #5 personnel alert and challenged inspector, #1 Bunker, #6 bunker personnel in process of changing guard, OK, #7 personnel alert and challenged inspector, # 1 and bunker # 8 satisfactory. At 0750hrs 1-20 Infantry Hornet 17 is on station for Combat Assault of Recon Platoon, PZ 0816hrs and LZ 0827hrs Combat Assault is completed at 0828hrs. At 0726hrs 1-20 Infantry To Bravo, Charlie, Delta Companies from S-3 Summary Alpha Company LZ Liz, Bravo Company 1st Platoon found 105 Booby trap, blew vicinity BS750540, Charlie Company moves to continue mission, Delta Company continues Mission in high ground and Recon is OPCON to Bravo Company effective 040600 May. At 0850hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz reports Access Road is now open. At 1240hrs Charlie Company changes in 3rd Platoon: Day 04 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position is at BS717449, 2nd Platoon ambush at BS719451, Day 05 2nd Platoon patrol Base at BS713451 and 2nd Platoon patrol at BS703450. At 1302hrs 1-20 Helix 37 is on station at this time and broke station at 1318hrs with negative findings. At 1310hrs Division Commanding General arrived at LZ Liz at 1310hrs. At 1312hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 730 is on station for re supply. At 1346hrs Division Commanding General departed LZ Liz. At 1340hrs MACV Mo Duc requested 1 Urgent Dust Off for 1 RF with sucking chest wound resulting from gunshot, Bird #54 completed at 1400hrs. At 1420hrs To Commanding Officer 11th Brigade from Commanding Officer 1-20 Infantry Commanding General visited 1-20 Infantry 1310hrs Subjects discussed were: 1. Rumors among troops on Stand Down and re deployment 2. Allocation for R & R including problem areas, 3. Allocation for E-4 promotion, including problem areas, 4. Personnel shortages and to include Officer shortages. 5. Commanding General mentioned he would check with Chief of Staff on commitment of Combat Arms CPT for XXIV Mess Officer. At 1605hrs MACV MO Duc at 0900hrs 3 VC in ARVN uniforms killed 1 man and 1 woman and Wounded 1 RF (unit unknown). At 1300hrs 3 VC in ARVN uniforms reported at BS775453, RF 103 reacted with 1 Platoon, and at 1400hrs had 1 RF from 103 wounded at BS778456, Dusted Off casualties of 0900hrs at BS777447. At 1640hrs 4 ARVN: 4-4 2 May at BS739631 got 3 KIA, BS757615 got 2 KIA. 2-4 on 3 May at BS738574 got 3 KIA, and 3-4 on 3 May at BS632575 got 2 KIA and 5 AK 47 CIA. At 0815hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 14 has broken station. At 1949hrs Saber 44 is on station for Recon, broke station at 1955hrs for refuel. At 2025hrs Saber 44 is on station for Recon, cloud cover to low to fly, going back to Chu Lai will be on 10-minute stand by call Brigade. At 2215hrs LZ Liz Bunker Line inspected: Bunker 5 4, 2, 1, 16, 17 all bunkers had at least 1 man on guard, all personnel were knowledgeable in the pass word with all bunkers had commo with the Command Post. At 2232hrs MACV Mo Duc at BS776535 requested Urgent Dust OFF for 1 litter Government Official with mortar frag wound to neck. Ville (Nui Dog) received 12 rounds mortar-fire from Southeast BS768511 only 2 rounds impacted inside Ville. Dust Off completed at 2255hrs by Bird 54, man turned out not to be Urgent had a very minor frag wound to neck, barely broke the skin. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0330hs LZ Liz Bunker Inspection #5 personnel alert and challenged inspector, #1 Bunker, #6 bunker personnel in process of changing guard, OK, #7 personnel alert and challenged inspector, # 1 and bunker # 8 satisfactory. At 1310hrs Division Commanding General arrived at LZ Liz. Bunker inspection around 2300hrs was rated satisfactory.

At 0726hrs Bravo Company Recon is OPCON to Bravo Company effective 040600hrs. At 0949hrs Bravo Company all element in Patrol Base, 2nd Platoon patrol moving out to BS660497. 3rd Platoon moving out to BS678500 and 1st Platoon moving out to BS668548 by 1213hrs all closed on location. Continue to use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1442hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving to BS665541. At 1750hrs Company Changes in Night Defense Positions 3rd Platoon Night Defense Position is at BS682508, Command Post with 2nd Platoon is at BS672511 and Recon is at BS659504. At 2000hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS682508, Command Post and 2nd Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS672511 with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.

At 0810hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS726452, 3rd Platoon and Command Post is moving to their Patrol Base at BS727477. At 0810hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS726452, 3rd Platoon, Command Post Patrol Base at vicinity BS727477, moving to it now. At 2015hrs Charlie Company all elements in Night Defense Position Command Post and 3rd Platoon at BS720446, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS713408, 1st Platoon ambush at BS710404, 2nd Platoon at BS717449 and 2nd Platoon ambush at BS719451.

At 0710hrs Delta Company 1st and 4th Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS697472, and at 0740hrs 3rd Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS682508. Delta Company continued their mission with multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1020hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon and Command Post in Patrol Base at BS700473. At 1657hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS693479. At 2000hrs Delta Company reports their locations Command Post and 2nd Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS697472, 3rd Platoon in position at BS702501. At 2129hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon sighted 4 lights 80-900 meters to their south, Artillery fired, Delta Company report negative further sighting vicinity BS703492. SP4 Thomas R. Iutz was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0830hrs Combat Assault of Recon Platoon, PZ 0816hrs and LZ 0827hrs Combat Assault is completed at 0828hrs. Recon is OPCON to Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry. At 1835hrs Recon at grid BS650506 spotted 4 to 5 VC with packs and weapons, Recon engaged with small arms fire and resulting in 2 VC KIA, 2 packs, 2 Chi Com grenades CIA, Recon swept area and found drag marks leading to the south, southwest. 2 KIA were wearing black on black and brown on green. Suspected avenues of retreat and suspected enemy locations were engaged with artillery. At 1927hrs Recon is moving out to Night Defense Position at BS661504. SGT Raymond Campbell was attached to 91st Evac Hospital (11F40).
