Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0450hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Radar at 1940hrs sighted 8 to 10 personnel moving east at BS746438 with negative clearance and Charlie Company informed, at 2055hrs 4-5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS723438 and engaged with 9 HE from 4.2 mortar. At 2330hrs PPS-5 spotted 5 to 6 personnel moving east at BS761457 and Charlie Company was informed. At 2343hrs PPS-5 3 to 5 personnel were sighted at BS788386 with MACV informed. At 040hrs 10 to 15 personnel were sighted moving southwest at BS787386 with Bravo Company informed and at 0445hrs TMF spotted 3 to 4 personnel moving southwest at BS740370 and Alpha Company was informed. At 1035hrs Brigade to 1-20 Infantry we have the following mission for DATE/TIME 081400 March 70 the 39th Engineer in Quang Ngai Province: dedication ceremony at BS784429 to recognize the opening and completion of highway 1. Several VIP’s are invited including General Nickerson and General Ramsey who will attend. 1-20 Infantry will provide security for the entire ceremony from the site of the ceremony to small arms range and 1 infantry company will stand by at PZ (30 minutes). We will have OPCON to 1-20 Infantry 2 War Lords to fly over head and 1 Platoon of War Lords and MP’s for closing each end of highway 1 and close security for the VIP’s. You will have as many pathfinder teams as necessary to secure LZ and you will have Command and Control Helicopter for the entire period. At 1645hrs to Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry Cordon and Search at BS749449 to be in position no later the 0400hrs and Night Defense Position at BS7346. At 1850hrs Brigade we request clearance for a bacon drop at BS7632 with clearance by CPT Basset.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
March 4, 1970
At 0755hrs Alpha Company we request a Routine Dust Off for one US with a sprained ankle at BS755403, dust off complete at 1028hrs. At 1150hrs Alpha Company entire company has closed on Day Logger BS757386 and continued to conduct multiple patrolling in their Area of Operations. At 1705hrs Alpha Company at BS778393 detained 2 males (ages 20 & 25), wearing black shirts and green pants were evac to LZ Bronco. At 1821hrs Alpha Company 22 elements closed on the Night Defense Position, the 23 element is moving to Checkpoint 6 at BS765388, the 02 element has closed on the Night Defense Position at BS757386. The 21 elements is at check point 4 at BS768397. At 1915hrs Alpha Company all element have closed on Night Defense Position with multiple ambushes in position. Alpha Company reports PFC Michael J. Kpajinak was treated and released for 23 Medical with sprained right ankle.
Bravo Company
March 4, 1970
At 0650hrs Bravo Company our sweeping forces are moving out, the 02 element too BS778418 and BS767415, the 05 element to BS778418 and BS768426, the 61 element to BS767415 and the 64 element to BS767456. At 1035hrs Bravo Company 1st Battalion 20th Infantry will provide security for the entire ceremony form the site of the ceremony to a small arms range and one infantry company will stand by at a PZ (30minutes). We will have OPCON 2 Warlords to fly overhead and one platoon of Warlords and MP’s for closing each end of Highway 1 and close security of the VIP. You will have as many Pathfinder teams as necessary to secure LZ’s and you will have a Command and Control helicopter for the entire period, for March 8, 1970. At 2155hrs Bravo Company the 169 PF sprung their ambush on 3 VC/NVA about 20 meters to the east of their location and fired illumination and checked the area with negative results, grid BS790426.
Charlie Company
March 4, 1970
At 0654hrs Charlie Company reports all elements are in their blocking position from BS772411 to BS788415 and at 0820hrs we have 19 detainees. Breakdown 18 with ID cards ages as follows 11 are children 6-12, 5 between 45-50, 2 are 30 and one female without ID is approximately 45 at grid BS768420. The 05 element at BS756459 has 10 children 8-12, 9 females 40-55, 6 males 40 to 55 all with ID and were turned over to Bravo Company and later released. At 1440hrs Charlie Company the 24 elements spotted 2 VC with one weapon at grid BS764423 and engaged with small arms. The results are one VC KIA, with pack, but no weapon. In pack we found 38caliber ammo, was wearing blue shirt and bush hat, no pants and dirty feet. We are still searching the area. At 1900hrs Charlie Company our Night Defense Position is at BS747459.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0635hrs the 64 element has closed on LZ Liz. At 1315hrs 1-20 Infantry all bunkers are in good condition and all have plumb bobs, Delta Company inspected by CPT Whitaker. At 1946hrs Delta Company the 94 snake is at BS755442, 95 at BS763437, 64 at BS768437 and the 54 snake is at BS772438.
Echo Company
March 4, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0715hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fire 4, Observed Missions 6, Unobserved Mission and Defense Target 1 with total expend 47 HE, 3 WP and 30 Illumination. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0650hrs Recon Platoon all elements are in their blocking positions from BS772411 to BS788415. At 0853hrs Recon Platoon reports tonight we will have the following snakes 21 snake to BS810417, the 23 snake to BS812410, and the 11 snake to BS817413. Today’s operations will be to set up OP’s at BS803423 and BS806420. At 1110hrs Recon Platoon at BS783415 the 23 element picked up 3 females detainees, approximately 40 to 45 years old and one female, age 18, with an ID. He was released from Bravo Company and Recon has been released from the operation with Bravo Company and at 1200hrs Recon Platoon we are moving out from out location to the South Bridge. At 1345hrs Recon the 23 element is sweeping east of the Red Ball and encountered 2 females, VC with weapons, and resulted in 1 female KIA with 1 AK47, 2 magazine one full and one empty, 2 hand grenades, pistol belt, first aid pack and a VC poncho. We detained 1 female VC detainee. All the items found will be extracted along with female detainee to LZ Liz at 1400hrs to Military Intelligence. At 1443hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS813409. At 1839hrs Recon Platoon the 11 element, while moving to their snake location spotted 2 VC with green uniforms at approximately 500 meters to the east. We are pursuing the evading VC and while in the process of giving chase they received 15 rounds of AK 47 sniper fire at BS816411. In checking the area it was found the rounds came from another VC in the area, while the area they found 2 cases of freshly cooked rice. At 1940hrs Recon Platoon the 11 elements is at BS817413 and the 21 element is at BS810417. Recon Platoon reports SGT Robert P. Mack at 0520hrs to B 23 Medical to 91 Evac with multiple frag wounds Right Foot.
