Forward Area: 1-20, Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1004hrs Primo 2 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1000hrs Re supply bird on station at this time. At 1110hrs Q Company vicinity BS685584 had IOS sighting, 3 personnel moving then spotted 1 VC come out of the wood line and pick up what appeared to be a weapon, shot again 1152hrs. At 1400hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Dolphin 423 on station for Re supply. At 1350hrs Helix 37 is on station working vicinity BS6858, at BS667539 he observed a cultivated area and structures on hill side and called a Fire Mission, fired 30 105 rounds an destroyed the area, broke station at 1455hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 71-76, 2nd Platoon 91-96, 3rd Platoon 41-46, 4th Platoon 01-06, CO-08.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1830hrs Headquarters and Headquarter Company at 1030hrs, found on his desk, a propaganda letter. It was in a hand written envelope and was two typed pages. Content, General Pacifist, leave Republic of Vietnam refuse to go to field, Happy New Year from the people of Duc Pho to US soldiers in Duc Pho.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued on Saturation Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0753hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon in Patrol Base at BS763555, 2nd Platoon patrol Base vicinity BS739576 and 3rd Platoon Patrol Base at BS763561. At 1040hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS763560, 2nd Platoon to BS739575 and 3rd Platoon is moving to BS767565. At 1124hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon patrol closed on OP Frag vicinity BS753568 and at 1144hrs 3rd Platoon vicinity BS765568 found 1 booby trap on a trail had a tip wire 2" off the trail, can of Petna, blown in place. At 1300hrs 2nd Platoon on platoon on patrol vicinity BS741574 found 1 anti-American propaganda note printed in English, it was on a concrete slab at the entrance of Ville, it will be returned to LZ Liz. At 1310hrs Alpha Company at OP Frag the 1st Platoon closed on BS763555, 3rd Platoon patrol closed on OP moving out for BS763561. At 1615hrs Alpha Company Reference Propaganda spot: Don’t take part in hurting people who are living in peace and happiness on their gardens into concentration camps. Be cause to do so you commit crime, it is not to conform with Gods will. American and Vietnamese with people’s aspirations will not avoid useless death. At 1630hrs Alpha Company OP Frag while digging in Bern at OP Frag, the 4th Platoon found 1 dud 155 round. It had negative marking, and it was blown in place. At 1930hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 4th Platoon BS753568, 3rd Platoon BS757592, BS760583, BS758581, 1st Platoon BS741567, BS743562, BS743561, and 2nd Platoon BS760541, BS754547, BS764550.
Bravo Company

At 0802hrs Bravo Company moving out for BS747404, and at 1205hrs Bravo Company Command post with the 2nd and 4th Platoon in Patrol Base BS747404. The 1st Platoon Patrol Base is at BS755401. At 1315hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon searching their Patrol Base area, observed 5 Vietnamese evading. They detained all 5, after questioning by the Kit Carson Scout they believe the 1 is a VC nurse, none had ID 1 female 15, wearing black evaded into a spider hole possible VC nurse, also 4 other Vietnamese female age 30-35 all will be sent to Duc Pho. At 1430hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out fro BS750395 and 3rd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS738422. At 1635hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon patrol closed BS755401, 2nd Platoon closed BS747404 and 3rd Platoon patrol closed at BS745415. At 1900hrs Bravo Company Command Post 2nd and 4th Platoon BS746409, 3rd Platoon BS733414, 1st Platoon BS753405, BS754407, BS752428, 2nd Platoon BS749409, BS744410.
Charlie Company
January 4, 1971
At 0746hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon Patrol reports their location at checkpoint 1, vicinity BS700552 and 1st Platoon Patrol is moving out for BS683550. At 0940hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS704556, while on patrol spotted 1 M-60 ammo can, laying along a trail. Suspecting that the ammo can was booby trap; they blew the can and received a secondary explosion. Immediately after the explosion they spotted 2 enemy 1 armed with a SKS and other had a rucksack and 45 Cal Pistol. The initial sighting was 75 to 100 meters east of the ammo can. They engaged killing one immediately and wounding and CIA the other, Dust Off completed at 1123hrs. Results 1 VC KIA and both wearing black, 1 VC WIA CIA, 1SKS and 1 45 Pistol with NVA holster, rack sack with 1 pound if documents CIA. At 1200hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS693538, VIP program, 2 Vietnamese children 10 and 12 turn in 1 homemade Chi Com, 2 M-79 HE paid 1 meal of C-rations. At 1255hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon closed on BS693538 and 2nd Platoon patrol moving out for BS664573. At 1340hrs 3rd Platoon Patrol is moving out for BS665563. At 1620hrs Charlie Company while on patrol 3rd Platoon vicinity BS700565 found a Booby trap can of Petna with pieces of frag from 105, 155 and hand frag, wired on by C-Ration wire. It was 3 to 4 feet off the trial with trip wire firing device and it was well camouflaged, destroyed in place. At 1745hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon on patrol vicinity BS677548 found a downed Shark, had no tail # or LTC marking, has 6 rockets in pods, they will blow it at first light. Then found tail # in black 15, in white 224. At 1635hrs MACV Mo Duc Mat team 26 will be sent to Charlie Company Jan 5 Call sign Mile 30. At 1915hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon ambush in location vicinity BS673568, 1st Platoon in location vicinity BS699531. At 2010hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon sighted movement to their southwest vicinity BS673572, engaged with small arms and employed 81mm illumination, checked the area with negative results, will check again at first light.
Delta Company

Delta Company all elements closed on LZ Liz at 1100hrs to take over Security Mission on LZ Liz.
Echo Company
January 4, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0654hrs Recon Platoon spotted 3 VC evading west vicinity BS714442, 500 meters to their northwest, requested Fire Mission, and blocking fire at BS704443, shot at 0702hrs with negative results, Recon is proceeding on their Mission. At 1615hrs Recon Platoon is location vicinity at BS715450. At 1800hrs Recon reacting to a sighting by Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery, they sent a 5 man patrol to investigate personnel vicinity BS762429. They detained 1 Vietnamese age 60, who was in close in vicinity to LZ Liz, and had been in the area all day, was sent in to Military Intelligence.
