Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0215hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar Target are reports at 2210hrs 4 to 6 stationary personnel were spotted at grid BS741445 with negative clearance and Bravo Company and at 2225hrs 5 to 6 stationary personnel were spotted at grid BS779450 and engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 2320hrs 5 to 6 stationary personnel at grid BS789469 and engaged the target with 20 HE of Artillery 105mm and at 0005hrs we spotted 16 to 20 stationary personnel at grid BS723436 with negative clearance and Delta Company at 0045hrs spotted 10 to 12 stationary personnel at grid BS723407 were spotted with negative clearance and Charlie Company and at 0150hrs 4 to 5 stationary personnel were spotted at grid BS732433 and engaged them with 9 HE of 4.2 mortar. At 0900hrs Helix FAC we are putting in an Air Strike into BS767397, ordinance of 24 500 pound, bombs with no duds, Bomb Damage Assessment of a few bunkers uncovered. At 1025hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 26 snatched 1 Vietnamese male, about 35 years of age, with black shorts and shirt at grid BS833427 and we will turn them in to Military Intelligence. At 1215hrs Brigade LRRP Nevada is at BS682446. At 1350hrs Dolphin 26 we snatched 1 male Vietnamese at grid BS815423 he was taken to the Command Post where he will be turned in to Military Intelligence. At 1812hrs LRRP Nevada, Bloody Stiletto is at BS669446. At 2040hrs Brigade we have a possible VC location as of 041500hrs February 1970 with 1 platoon of local force VC at BS787407 in An Ninh Hamlet (3). They were armed with several B40 rockets, 1 B41 rocket and individual weapons. At 2050hrs Radar sighted 2 to 4 personnel, stationary, at grid BS743432 and engaged them with 2 Illumination, 2 WP and 7 HE of 81 Mortar. At 2122hrs LRRP Nevada has a negative situation report. At 2145hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at grid BS790422 we have negative clearance due to the proximity of Bravo Company. At 2150hrs in reference to Vietnamese New Year: We have a cease-fire from 1800hrs on 5 February to 1800hrs on 6 February 1970. The rules of engagement are similar to that of Christmas. CPT Basset will be around in the morning of 5 February with documents regarding to cease-fire.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
February 4, 1970
At 0640hrs Alpha Company 63, 64 and 65 elements have started moving back to BS746457 and closed and the 94 and 95 snakes are closing on BS746457 and they closed at 0826hrs. Alpha Company is using multiple patrolling around LZ Liz and at 1050hrs we have moved into our Day Logger vicinity BS7438445. At 1115hrs Alpha Company the 93 element is moving to BS741445. At 1535hrs Alpha Company the 93 element is moving to BS752456 and the Vietnamese children say there are 3 VC with a M13 at this location. At 1725hrs Alpha Company the 63 element has linked up with the 93 element to pursue evading personnel. The personnel are evading in the direction of LZ Liz. At 1730hrs Alpha Company the 53 element is at BS728459, 55 at BS728467 and 55 is at BS725450. At 1820hrs Alpha Company our snakes are moving out 54 at BS728467, 53 at BS728459, 55 at BS725450, 63 at BS723437, 64 at BS724443 and the 65 is at BS711436. At 1827hrs Alpha Company the 93 element is moving back from its search of BS752456, we had 2 Vietnamese females but let them go. At 1900hrs the 93 element has closed on BS738448. At 1940hrs Alpha Company we have closed on our Night Defense Position and our multiple ambushes out again tonight.
Bravo Company

At 0015hrs Bravo Company the 66 snake is at BS794408 and the 75 snake is at BS779417. At 0555hrs Bravo Company the 66 snake has closed on BS789417 and the 75 snake on BS787424. At 0710hrs Bravo Company the 95 element is moving to BS788445, the 98 element is sweeping to BS788445, the 68 element is moving to BS800372, the 53 element is sweeping from BS792442 and the 55 element is moving to BS792442. At 0725hrs Bravo Company the 57 element will check the area of contact last night before returning to Day Logger grid BS781439. At 0750hrs Bravo Company the rangers are moving to BS768433. At 0800hrs the Battalion Commander left LIZ for Bravo Company and returned at 0900hrs. At 0903hrs Bravo Company we requests 100 HE, 60 Illumination for 81mm mortars. At 0930hrs Bravo Company the 98 element has checked out BS797445 with negative results. At 0950hrs Bravo Company the 95, 98, 53 and 55 elements have closed. At 1200hrs Bravo Company all elements have closed on their semi permanent positions. At 1855hrs Bravo Company the 96 element is moving to BS776452 on their clearing patrol. At 1937hrs Bravo Company the 58 element is at BS780434. The 65 snake is moving to BS784422 and the 66 element is moving to BS798490. At 2010hrs Bravo Company the 63 element received small arms fire and 2 rounds of M-79 fire from BS792418. We are calling in Artillery and illumination at this time. The fire wounded 3 PF, one with a frag in the side and the other 2 with frag in the head. Shark 5 on station, also we requested Urgent Dust Off for 1 PF with frag wounds due to incoming M-79 rounds. They were from the 147 RF Company. The RF while moving to their ambush location, were ambushed 100 meters from the South Bridge completed at 2025hrs. At 2052hrs Bravo Company we request an Urgent Dust Off for 2 Vietnamese children, 1 with frag wounds in the left side, these were caused by incoming M-79 rounds completed at 2154hrs grid BS789417 At 2105hrs Shark 5 broke station after expending all his ammo. At 2120hrs Bravo Company reports the 97 location is at BS770454. At 2135hrs Bravo Company the 63 element is to check out the following grids in addition to their patrol on 5 February 1970 BS787407, BS761404, BS769405 and BS769399. We will fire Artillery on these grids tonight in (reaction to intelligence). At 2149hrs Bravo Company the 96 element has closed on BS776446.
Charlie Company

At 1130hrs Charlie Company the 23 and 92 OP’s found 2 tunnels at grid BS738417. One of the tunnels is 40’ long and the other on is 60’ long, we request 10 catering charges and roll of detonate cord and a few engineers to blow the tunnel. At 1145hrs Charlie Company at grid BS736440, Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry has a snake, it was in our Area of Operation at the same location as our 63 snake was supposed to be last night but it was changed. The two elements are getting together and coordinated their position. C 4-3 Infantry will start moving to the West. At 1917hrs Charlie Company our Night Defense Position is at BS734416 (Ajax is 111). Again Charlie Company has element snake location along the BS7330 grid. At 1250hrs Charlie Company reports the 53 and 63 elements have closed on BS738413. At 1825hrs Charlie Company the 53 element new snake location for tonight is BS730415. At 1856hrs we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS734416 and closed at 1917hrs. At 2020hrs Charlie Company all elements are in location the 53 at BS730415, 54 at BS732414, the 56 at BS728417, 63 to BS730407, the 64 to BS731404, the 66 to BS734398, the 93 to BS732398, also the 85 snake at BS745392 and the 96 element at BS750386. At 2105hrs Charlie Company 63 elements reports have 1 round believed to be a mortar round hit 300 meters to the southwest of their location at grid BS730407. We also had one hit farther away to the West. We are receiving rounds at this time we have checked with Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry and they don’t fire after the hours of darkness.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0635hrs the 64 element has closed on LZ Liz. At 1315hrs 1-20 Infantry all bunkers are in good condition and all have plumb bobs, Delta Company inspected by CPT Whitaker. At 1946hrs Delta Company the 94 snake is at BS755442, 95 at BS763437, 64 at BS768437 and the 54 snake is at BS772438.
Echo Company
February 4, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0700hrs 4.2 Platoon in our missions last night a total expended of 85 HE, 6 WP and 114 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1040hrs Recon Platoon reports all elements have linked up and have checked out BS8044 with negative results. At 1202hrs Recon Platoon request an Urgent Dust Off for 1 VC wearing black shorts and shirt. He is about 20 years of age with 2 more VC where evading and we are checking out the area. We found 1 pistol belt, 1 M26 grenade and 1 poncho at grid BS800644 with Dust Off, completed at 1212hrs. At 1315hrs 1-20 Infantry to Recon have your 3 snakes in the vicinity of your present location or just to the south, at grid BS845403. We need tonight snakes location ASAP. At 1320hrs Recon the Will Scarlet element is at BS846405, the Little Al Element is at BS844407 and Robin Hood snake will be at BS842403. At 1908hrs Recon Platoon we spotted 1 VC/NVA to our front at grid BS807443 we chased him and fired on him and believe he is wounded. There was no sign of a bloody trail and will check out the area further in the morning. Primo 3 is on station (LOH) and spotted a bunker 100 meters to the east of Recon location. The LOH fired on bunker with negative results. At 1935hrs Recon we are in our Night Defense Position at BS809442 with Little Al and Little John area moving to their snake locations at BS806444 and BS812441 respectively.
