Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0835hrs MACV Mo Duc 0830hrs has WIA VC, have documents stating he is VC Liaison Mo Duc District and letter of accommodation from to VC will evac to 23 Medical. At 1005hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Bravo Company 4-3 Infantry has the Security Mission for LZ Liz and the 26 Engineer are located at BS700600. At 1600hrs Blue Ghost 26 has 3 hot spots, BS768539, BS754498 and BS719521. Delta Company checked 1st grid and will check others. At 1643hrs Intelligence 2 UI Companies of 406 VC sappers Battalion with 180 personnel were deployed vicinity BS445842. They were commanded by Thanh Hong, mission to combine with 506A Sapper Co and the 107 VC artillery battalion in attacking Quang Ngai City and the Tra Khuc Bridge at BS542747 between the 4 and 6 August 1970. At 1912hrs 26 Engineer are location at BS702588.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
August 4, 1970
Alpha Company 2nd Platoon continued their Security Mission with Charlie Company 26th Engineers. At 0810hrs Alpha Company 52 element found a tunnel complex with trench 5’ deep and 3’ to 4’ wide at BS735602-BS753601, 100 meters on Northwest end deep holes 8’-50’ deep with cut ends on side of trench covered with bamboo, steps leading into holes checking area now. At 0926hrs Alpha Company 75 element has 2 male detainees ages 47 and 43, will evac to Bronco. At 1200hrs Alpha Company at BS753602 1st Platoon found 2 60mm rounds and 2 155 Artillery rounds and several metal sheets with numbers, will destroy rounds in place and sheets will be evac. At 1415hrs Alpha Company is located at BS727617 and at 1920hrs Alpha Company report that they have moved into their Night Defense Position at BS733614.
Bravo Company
August 4, 1970
At 0800hrs Bravo Company is moving at this time and by 1035hrs Bravo Company is released from OPCON to 4-3 Infantry and returned to 1st Battalion 20th Infantry control. Bravo Company has moved to LZ Bronco. By 1215hrs Bravo Company joined Recon Platoon on LZ Liz with the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Charlie Company
August 4, 1970
Charlie Company with RF 116, 146, 937 and RF Platoon 147,144, 168 continued their Hamlet Pacification program with security mission for highway 1. Charlie Company Night Defense Position at BS733656 and conducted multiple squad size patrols and day and night ambushes in their Area of Operation.
Delta Company
August 4, 1970
At 0740hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon in vicinity BS748546 on a sweep of the area found 2 rusty M-26 Hand grenades, destroyed in place. At 1100hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon at BS743568 and spotted and detained 2 elderly males and then released them. Then they began receiving sniper fire from the north and returned small arms fire and spotted 1 VC with weapon evading. Checking area and spotted another VC, pursued, engaged results 1 CIA WIA VC and request Urgent Dust Off. At 1912hrs Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS756574.
Echo Company
August 4, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1600hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS798329. At 1912hrs Recon Platoon has closed on LZ Liz.
