Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 4, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ O’Connor, with elements cutting the trails, looking for movement down into the Valley leading to the Coast and conducts a Security sweep south of Hiep DUC area. They are looking for building or signs of traffic or build up, into these areas.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0200hrs E Troop at BS887288 received 41 round of 57 Recoilless Rife Fire and returning it with 50 Caliber and M-60 fire.

 

Alpha Company
April 4, 1968

Alpha Company continued to use Platoon size Search and Destroy Operations vicinity AT8225. At 1530hrs Alpha Company is located at BS948839, found a bear trap, booby trap in bushes 51’ from a hootch. At 1305hrs Alpha Company engaged 9 VC/NVA 100 meters south location moving west 3 rucksacks, all had weapons engaged with small arms fire and 4.2 fire, 6-7 KIA firing ceased will cross river, and check the area tomorrow when we cross river. Alpha Company is in their Night Defense Position at AT873211.

 

Bravo Company
April 4, 1968

Bravo Company at AT846246 is conducting Search and Clear operations and by 1000hrs start to move south to cross the river using rope bridge and liked up with Delta Company at AT8622. At 0650hrs Bravo Company observed 2 VC moving southeast from their location and called in artillery unknown results. Bravo Company established their Night Defense Location at AT873211.

 

Charlie Company
April 4, 1968

At 1050hrs Charlie Company is located at BS642911 and found 1 Chi Com grenade, 1 empty sub machine gun magazine and 2 VC ponchos, and destroyed all items. At 1108hrs Task Force Baker TOC reported of elements of the 21st NVA Battalion are reported at BS682923, Charlie Company is moving toward the area. At 1310hrs Charlie Company is located at BS636880 the 1st Platoon found 1 105mm round dud, destroyed in Place. At 1945hrs Charlie Company reports their Night Defense Position located at BS634884 with ambushes at BS623912, BS624903, BS642916, BS634888, BS637880, BS653917 and BS653913. PVT Harry Stanley was evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.

 

Delta Company
April 4, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ O’Connor and Delta Company continued their Platoon size Search and Destroy operations off of LZ O’Connor. Delta Company at AT923244 had spotted one man in hedgerow engaged with small arms fire and results was 1 VC KIA appears to have medical equipment and some documents will be evac. Delta Company at AT928256 spotted 2 VC black PJ evading northwest 250meters found 2 blood trails followed to AT925262 and spotted 4 VC in Black PJ going into hooch engaged with M-79. Results 1 hooch destroyed, 30 rounds of AK44 ammo, 1 VC KIA, 1 AK 44(SN#H6719), 1 NVA pistol belt, 1 hammock, 1 note book, 1 khaki uniform, 2 leather cases, and 1 US Ammo cases will evac all. At 1630hrs Delta Company observed 1 man 100 meters evading engaged with small arms fire results 1 VC KIA with no weapons, and they then move into their Night Defense Position at AT889245. PFC Luke A. Smith was attached to the 67th Evac hospital.

 

Echo Company
April 4, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where now located on LZ O’Connor and set up to provide direct support to the Battalion. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ O’Connor.
