Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Vanguard and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0715hrs S-4 Bird is on station. At 0840hrs Alpha Company conducts Combat Assault Alpha 1st PZ at 0840hrs, 6th and Last LZ 1048hrs. At 019hrs Charlie Company Combat Assault 1st PZ 1012hrs, 3rd and Last LZ at 1100hrs. At 1230hrs Delta Company conducts a Combat Assault 1st PZ at 1230hrs, 3rd and Last LZ at 1330hrs. At 1330hrs 1-20 Infantry reports LZ Vanguard was closed at this time and LZ Custer at BS512571 was open at the same time. At 1945hrs Concord Blue is on station working Boxes 54 and 56 and at 2130hrs Broke station with negative findings. At 2137hrs OP Nui Vong told to go to 100% Alert, Snoopy had VC in wire achieved 100% at 2130hrs Nighthawk checked Snoopy and Nui Vong perimeters with negative findings and Alert terminated at 2208hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Vanguard. At 0840hrs Alpha Company started their Combat Assault from LZ Vanguard to LZ Custer at BS512571 and ended their Combat Assault at 0930hrs and they began setting up the perimeter for LZ Custer. At 1300hrs LZ Vanguard was closed and the 1-20 Infantry opened LZ Custer at BS512571 and Alpha Company continued to set up the Security perimeter for LZ Custer.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Vanguard. At 1330hrs the 1-20 Infantry is closing LZ Vanguard at this time and LZ Custer at BS512571 was opened at the same time, Bravo Company has now taken over the Security Mission for LZ Custer.
Charlie Company
September 3, 1971
On the road again Charlie Company 1st PZ is at 1012hrs and 3rd PZ is 1110hrs as the 1-20 Infantry is now operating out of LZ Custer at grid BS512571which they open at 1330hrs. At 1410hrs Delta Company at BS349801hrs September 1971 individual and closed LZ Vanguard. At 1918hrs Charlie Company established their Night Defense Position at BS515561.
Delta Company

Alpha Company 1st PZ is at 0840hrs, Charlie Company 1st PZ at 1015hrs and Delta Company 1st PZ at 1230hrs and Delta last LZ is at 1330hrs the 1-20 Infantry has Closed LZ Vanguard At 1410hrs Delta Company shot himself said "He shot himself when he tripped over tri pod, negative witness", resupply ship will take the Dust Off at 1435hrs Evac to 91 EVAC Hospital and LZ Custer opened at BS512573.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Vanguard, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1040hrs Recon Platoon conducted a air move from BS617477 to LZ at BS514562 (LZ Custer) as the Complete 1-20 Infantry Headquarters and Echo Company finish the move started yesterday.
