Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0430hrs 1945hrs at BS751536 sighted 3 to 5 stationary personnel and engaged with 28 HE rounds 155 Artillery. At 2040hrs TMF S-73b sight activity and engaged 16 rounds 155 Artillery. At 2120hrs at BS750535 sighted 1 to stationary personnel with negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 2345hrs at BS745366 sighted 3 to 5 moving northwest and engaged with 12 HE rounds105 Artillery. At 0020hrs at BS757404 sighted 5 to 7 personnel moving to the west engaged with 10 4.2 HE rounds expended. At 0200hrs at BS815470 sighted 1-5 Stationary personnel and engaged with 16 HE rounds 105 Artillery. At 0345hrs at BS795450 spotted 6 to 8 stationary personnel and engaged with 32 HE rounds Artillery. At 1535hrs The 39 Engineer requests Urgent Dust Off for 4 US multiple frag wounds, sucking chest wounds, stomach wounds, wounds received from unknown type booby trap, completed at 1545hrs Dust Off at grid BS778442. Delta Company continued to use multiply patrolling with some Day Ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 2030hrs Delta Company 83, 34 and 53 elements is in location at BS774365, 86 in location at BS777369, the 23 element is location at BS756392, and the 63 element in is location at BS783389. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 3, 1970
Alpha Company continued to use Day Loggers and patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0924hrs Alpha Company picked up 2 detainee at BS696548 ages 11 and 13, wearing black pants, blue top, and black pants and purple top, detained because of questions they were asking where they were going, taken to MACV Mo Duc. Alpha Company also had some Day Ambush out and in position. At 1225hrs Alpha Company 66 element found 1-2 man bunkers, about 2 feet deep, covered with fresh bamboo every time a element entered this area at BS685569 they receive warning shots and saw signs warning the people of booby traps in the area. At 1545hrs Alpha Company at BS693551 had a booby trap 105 type go off in wood line, apparently no reason. At 1804hrs Alpha Company reports that 34, 53 and 83 moving to Night Defense Position at BS680540.
Bravo Company
September 3, 1970
At 0713hrs Bravo Company little people received information that VC were in area last night, the 27 element is checking out the area and will use BS717624 and BS714623 as check points. At 1652hrs Bravo Company at BS705593 Kit Carson Scout and PF Honcho spotted movement that they said was rice carriers, brought them under fire, the 63 element went into the area to check it out found 50 pounds of rice destroyed also one bike destroyed. At 1655hrs Bravo Company 83 bought 1 105 round from a child at BS682608 for 1 meal of C-Rations destroyed in place.
Charlie Company

At 0755hrs Charlie Company the 65 element closed on Charlie Company 63 (Day Logger) position at BS732408, and 83-85-87 closed on Day Logger at BS727444. Charlie Company is using Saturation Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2030rhs Charlie Company 63 and 67 element in location at BS740401, 34 and 53 in location at BS721425, 83 in location at BS721425 and 87 element in location at BS726446. Also the 26 element is moving to BS721421 with 25 moving out for BS711431.
Delta Company
September 3, 1970
At 0745hrs Delta Company 85 found 1 155mm round in hedgerow apparently a dud they blew it in place and by 0936hrs Delta Company 85 is at BS776361. At 1004hrs Delta Company the 23 element found 1-20mm casing filled with Petna, also 1 RPG round laying halfway in hedgerow and on trail, 1 rifle trigger mechanism, rusted but operable all items blown in place. At 1217hrs LZ Liz Priority Dust Off, for PVT Kelly, Delta Company epileptic fit completed 1305hrs.
Echo Company
September 3, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0430hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon reports total expended HE 10, WP 4 rounds and 81mm Mortar total expend HE 30 and WP 4 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0550hrs Recon Platoon is moving to LZ Liz. At 1300hrs Recon Platoon picked up detainees at BS749439 in close proximity to LZ Liz, 2 males approximately 35 and 5 females ages 35 to 15, all had ID which the Kit Carson Scout said were false.
