Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0205hrs LZ Max taking 82mm rounds took 4 to 10 rounds, negative damage or casualties, 4.2 1-20 Infantry fired 10 rounds of HE counter fire at BS778473 and 105 Artillery fired 20 rounds counter fire at BS780470 and at 1000hrs Dolphin 16 is on station. At 1130hrs (1-20 Infantry TOC) the Commanding General is on LZ Liz. At 1245hrs Bravo troop 2 packs dusted off by Primo, pack was moving a piece of barbwire, which had a hand frag tied to it, men had frag wounds to legs, side and stomach. They saw 3 more frag in wire, destroyed at BS686566, hand frag similar to M-26 except it was precision built, and it was not US. At 1315hrs Warlord 31 at BS726609 found 1 AK-48 magazines also 1 pack evading, put in animals, but their radio quit on them. So they left with negative findings, at BS725594 they destroyed 1 bunkers. At 1445hrs Warlord 31 on station and working Box 69X. At 1945hrs MACV Mo Duc at BS769532, Nui Ong Do, 82mm Mortar attack estimated 5 incoming 82mm rounds, 1 inside the tin city all 5 inside the compound. Results 1 Vietnamese KIA, 7 Vietnamese WIA, all civilians, negative US in the area, negative results for VC. At 2345hrs Bravo Troop at BS672552, all element’s in location there, 2 APC still stuck, but are close to high ground, will try to move tomorrow to a hill to the west. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0835hrs 11 Brigade reports G Battery 1-55 Artillery at BS577725 while on mine sweep the Duster hit a unknown mine, combat loss with 5 US WIA and 1 US KIA Dust Off in process at 0945hrs.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company is using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today. At 1933hrs Alpha Company all elements in located Night Defense Position BS717435, 37 at BS748406, 55 at BS708439, 84 at BS727457, and 85 at BS738458.
Bravo Company
October 3, 1970
At 0910hrs Bravo Company 12 and the 85 element took 8-10 rounds sniper fire from 500 meters to their southwest at BS738628 returned small arms fire engaged at 500 meters no injuries and continued the sweep. At 1120hrs Bravo Company 12 and 85 elements taking heavy sniper fire 50 to 60 rounds, semi automatic fire from BS738614 estimated 5 to 6 personnel, firing 81mm in return and gun ships now helping the 12 and 85 element sweep the area. At 1330hrs Bravo Company at BS733636 Urgent Dust Off us with gunshot wound to left leg, Ronald Smith, completed at 1357hrs, gun requested at 1340hrs on station at 1348hrs. At 1515hrs Bravo company wrap up 85 and 12 elements received sniper fire from several locations around BS748613, 12 and 85 divided into 5 small groups and continued to pursue the enemy. At BS740615 3 US came upon a stream 10’ wide and 8’ deep 300 meters from the objective, they attempted to cross the stream, but was too deep and swift, resulting in combat loss of weapons, 2 M-16 and a M203, line # 1449, 6024 and L6518. The rest of the element continued to their objective, when they spotted a large number of Vietnamese evading into the wood line, where they initially received sniper fire. They fired and the 12 and the 85 element detained 20 to 30 Vietnamese, on the other side of wood line at BS714629, the 54 element was in a PF where they spotted 4 Vietnamese evading 2 with weapons, and 2 on sampans. Bravo Company 54 element pursued the enemy into a Ville where they were unable to find them. The detained 1 male 14, who confessed that he was a look out for VC, and a part time sniper, at 1535hrs Bravo Company has 3 female detainees 38, 35, 18 the interpreter says definitely VC evac to Mo Duc. PFC Ronald Smith was evac to to 27 Surgical with gunshot wound right knee.
Charlie Company

At 1340hrs Charlie Company the 34 element is moving to BS773425 and at 1415hrs Charlie Company at BS766413, and the 34 element has 1 suspected VC in a hootch, fired 2 CS grenades into it. Now have 1 male and 4 female and will bring to LZ Liz and evac to Military Intelligence. At 1550hrs Warlord 31 spotted 6-8 personnel at BS785506 with weapons, dressed in black and blue uniforms they were hiding in bunkers. The Blues inserted, engaged, resulting in 2 KIA, 1 M-16, Charlie Company 34 element picked up as reaction force at 1604hrs, and inserted and engaged, results 1 KIA dressed in black, and 1 POW. Charlie Company 34 element continued probing to the west and found a Bunker, Charlie Company and Blues pulled out 1 CIA, 1 WIA results of hand frag, LOH engaged one, results in 1 KIA. Charlie Company and War Lords engaged more in hedgerow after Recon by fire, results 3 KIA, for a Total War Lords 7 KIA, Charlie Company 4 KIA, 3 CIA, 1 WIA, 1 M-16, 4 grenades, several documents, 1 105 trip wire Booby trap blown in place. Charlie Company extracted at 1820hrs operation completed. At 1645hrs Warlords and Charlie Company at BS705506, picked up remainder of Victor 34 to reinforce animals on the ground, negative enemy contact at this time, Results to date 5 VC KIA, 1 M-16 CIA, 4 grenades, documents, 5 POW’s (1 WIA).
Delta Company

Delta Company continued to work their Area of Operation but weather and water still a program working their Area of Operation. At 0800hrs Delta Company 85 in their Day Ambush at BS664583 and the 35 element is moving to BS677577. At 0845hrs Delta Company 35 element is at checkpoint 1 at BS677577. At 0910hrs Delta Company the 35 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS680580, the 85 element closed on BS668578 and the 56 element at checkpoint 1 at BS670580. At 0945hrs Delta Company conducts Combat Assault was approved and first PZ at 1045hrs and 4 and last LZ at 1115hrs was cold. Delta Company reports PFC James S. Giles and PFC Thomas A. Hill where in Bravo Company 23rd Medical.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0205hrs LZ Max taking 82mm rounds took 4 to 10 rounds, negative damage or casualties, 4.2 1-20 Infantry fired 10 rounds of HE counter fire at BS778473. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry and LZ Liz.
