Headquarters and Headquarter Company
July 3, 1969

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry is located at LZ Liz and continued their Mission and working with ARVN units in their Duc Pho Area of Operations. At 1730hrs Charlie Company at BS821449 in contact. At 1735hrs 1-20 Infantry called and requested Shadow because of contact at BS822499, Shadow to cone up on 1-20 Infantry command push at 1930hrs. Dust Off coming into LZ Bronco ½ mile from south end of airstrip is received fire.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0525hrs LZ Bronco Base Defense spotted 3 personnel at BS838358 and fired 8 rounds of 4.2 mortar rounds with unknown results. At 0750hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS75749. Found a command detonated mine, when they tried to clear it they were hit with small arms and automatic weapons fire. They are in contact at this time and Warlords were directed to contact with negative casualties or damage. At 1030hrs a jeep from the Security Platoon at LZ Goldie tripped over in front of the main Exchange in Chu Lai. 3 persons were slightly bruised, 2 were from Headquarters and Headquarter Company and 1 from Charlie Company. SP4 Richard J. Hoover was evac to 312th Evac Hospital at 1700hrs with a gunshot wound upper left arm.

 

Alpha Company
July 3, 1969

At 0155hrs Alpha Company the 45 element at BS775418 spotted 4 personnel moving north to south along the river, engaged with fire and believed they have 1 KIA. The looked area over and found nothing will check again at first light. At 0810hrs Alpha Company at BS775418 found one AK 47 (SN# 110112) and at 0830hrs Alpha Company at BS776419 detained 3 VCS questioned by the interpreter and they said they where Guard at the VC Women Association and they were evac to Military Intelligence at LZ Bronco. At 1000hrs Alpha Company is located at LZ LIZ with Delta Company. Alpha Company has taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
July 3, 1969

At 0910hrs Bravo Company reported their location and Day Logger at BS730437 and will use multiple patrolling and Day Ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 2005hrs Bravo Company will have a Night Ambush at BS716433.

 

Charlie Company
July 3, 1969

Charlie Company set up their Day Logger at BS814444, and at 1000hrs Charlie Company at BS809454 spotted and they engaged 4 NVA with packs and weapons they received 1 round with negative casualties. Sweep area of contact and found a number of group positions in the area, also classrooms and some papers. At 1625hrs Charlie Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS809454 with the 44 element is at BS828445. At 1730hrs Charlie Company Charlie Company at BS821449 in contact receiving small arms fire and automatic weapons fire from 5 individual weapons and 1 M-79. Gun Ships alerted and sent to contact area. At 1745hrs Charlie Company report 3 US WIA, Dust Off, standing by to go in, Helix and fighters on station, Dust Off completed at 1850hrs. At 2150hrs Charlie Company their Night Defense Position at BS828443 with the 46 element at BS824443. At 0400hrs Charlie Company will move to BS824443.

 

Delta Company
July 3, 1969

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1530hrs Delta Company is located at BS757452 and they pick up 2 males VCS and one of them was hiding as the other one try to evade out of the area, approximately 33-38, they were taken to LZ Liz. At 2005hrs Delta Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS744477 with 45 at BS735450 and 95 at BS7424450 with the 64 element at 45 element’s location.

 

Echo Company
July 3, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon is working with LZ Bronco Defense Security Mission. At 1000hrs Recon Platoon at BS888408 working with PRU reports detainee 2 females VCS carrying medical supplies, they were taken to FSB LIZ.
