Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1025hrs 1-20 Infantry all units will review the rules of Engagement and report its completion prior to DATE/TIME 041200 January 1970. At 1030hrs 1-20 Infantry Battalion Commander is leaving LZ Liz and going to Bravo Company. At 1100hrs The Assistant Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz and departed at 1114hrs. At 1120hrs 11 Brigade it was reported that a NVA Battalion is in the vicinity of BS7833. Today schedule for Combat Assault will go tomorrow. We want 1 company to work the southern and southeastern portion of our Area of Operation. Check our grids BS7833, BS7337 and BS7436.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1945hrs from the XO to LTC Fischer, CMMI team is on 5 January 1970; wit will be composed on 9 EM and 1 Officer. After reviewing LZ Bronco they will come to LZ Liz. We will be required to provide transportation for 10 personnel and 5 guides.
Alpha Company

At 0430hrs Alpha Company the Papa element is moving out on their Cordon and Search operation. At 0450hrs Alpha Company we are in position and waiting for daybreak. The Alpha Company reports locations 44 element id at BD812459, BS815460 and BS818462. The 24 element is at 818446, 821447, and 824449, the Command Post and 04 element is at BS811455, BS813450 and BS814447. At 0711hrs Alpha Company 04 and Command Post are now beginning their search all other elements are in blocking position. At 0730hrs we have reached the beach and our sweep is complete. We have negative finding except for an old Night Defense Position in which someone had dug up all GI and C Ration cans. We will sweep back through again and link up with the blocking forces and move back to our Night Defense Position. At 0810hrs Alpha Company we are moving back to our Night Defense Position. At 1845hrs Alpha Company we are in our Night Defense Position at BS801490. At 1930hrs Alpha Company 04 is at BS788487and 05 at BS789480. At 2025hrs Alpha Company 04 spotted lights moving across a rice paddy at grid BS785477 fired 81mm rounds in the area and lights went out. The area will be checked out in the morning.
Bravo Company

At 0225hrs Bravo Company the Gorilla element at grid BS786431 took a couple rounds of sniper fire. One was directly from the south and the other was from the southwest. We believe the enemy is trying to get a fix on our location, negative casualties or contact at this time. At 0500hrs the Bravo Company and their Vietnamese elements where taking up Blocking Positions BS807409 to BS819403 and using Day Ambush, plus some Recon in Force in their Area of Operation. At 0500hrs Bravo Company the 25 element is moving to BS817415 and the 28 element with the Vietnamese are moving to their blocking position at BS807409 to BS819403. At 0615hrs Bravo Company the 24 element is waiting for daybreak, to begin their sweep. At 0625rhs the Gorilla element is at BS814414. At 0712hrs Bravo Company the 07 element is moving out on their patrol to BS789447. The 05 element has left their ambush site and are now on their patrol to BS762442. At 0735hrs Bravo Company the 45 element will conduct a Recon in Force at 0800hrs to grids BS785436, BS788443 and BS790438. At 0800hrs Bravo Company the 45 element is moving to BS785436, BS788443 and BS790438 on their patrol. The 05 element is at Checkpoint 1 at 762442. The 07 element is on their way to BS778438. At 0900hrs Bravo Company 45 element has found a rice cache of approximately 900 pounds at grid 788443. At 0940hrs Bravo Company reference the incoming round at the Twin Ville at 2050hrs last night, the crater was 3’ in diameter, 2’ deep and circular. At 1026hrs Bravo Company the 25, Ranger, and Gorilla elements have close on their semi-permanent positions. Bravo Company has field strength in 130 packs for today. At 1055hrs Bravo Company the PF with the 24 element has spotted 2 VC at grid BS818412. The VC evaded to the southwest. They also picked up 2 suspected VC females, approximately 30 years old, at the same grid. 1 of the female husbands is a confirmed VC. The PF took the females to Duc Pho for interrogation. At 1140hrs Bravo Company the element at the Twin Ville took 4 rounds of AK47 rounds. At 0830hrs Bravo Company reports the 48 element is moving to BS780435 and the 26 element is moving to BS793409 and at 1850hrs reports the 25 element is moving to BS782412. At 2005hrs Bravo Company the 48 element is at BS780435, the 06 element is at BS765455 and the 25 element is at BS792412 with the 26 element is at BS792409. At 2345hrs Bravo Company our Command Post spotted movement to our southeast and are engaging with small arms and artillery, we heard voices about 500 meters to the southeast of our location at BS783433.
Charlie Company

At 0720hrs Charlie Company the 06 and 26 elements have closed on their Night Defense Position. At 0924hrs Charlie Company your mission is to search and clear the following grid boxes, BS696424, BS710428, BS716417, and BS703411, BS706407, BS718416, BS773397 and BS720417 and BS736304, BS736304, BS745376, BS728368. At 1044hrs Charlie Company Urgent Dust Off request: one US with severe stomach pains. Charlie Line #577 Dust Off completed 1051hrs. At 1530hrs Charlie Company 44 element found a tunnel complex at grid 758534. The tunnel was 60’ long and 4’ in diameter, they will blow by shaped charges. We also found 2 booby traps with a grenade for a firing device. One was an RPG 7 grenade for a pressure release, firing device. At 1725hrs Charlie Company we are moving out of our Day logger at this time. At 1950hrs Charlie Company in our Night Defense Position at BS728427, we also picked up one female detainee at grid BS722437, age 33 with no weapon or ID card. The Kit Carson Scout says she is VC and she has pack strap marks on her back we will extract by US.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0917hrs Delta Company reports all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1310hrs Bunker report all are in good condition and all have plumb bobs, Delta Company was inspected by CPT Whitaker after Bunker 18 was repaired. At 1335hrs Delta Company the 25 element is checking out the area to the north of the north OP and closed on LZ Liz at 1725hrs. At 1900hrs Delta Company the 47 element is at BS741436, the 26 at BS769438, 06 at BS772441 and the 46 is at BS763438.
Echo Company
January 3, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0632hrs 4.2 reports Supporting Fires 6, Observed Missions 4 and Defense Target 1 for a total expended of 40 He and 40 Illumination. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0815hrs Recon Platoon we are moving toward LZ Liz from our Night Defense Position. At 0945hrs Recon reports we have closed on LZ Liz.
