Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0025hrs Radar sighted 4 to 6 stationary personnel at grid BS729439 and engaged with target with 12 HE rounds of artillery 155mm. At 0505hrs Radar sighted 5 to 6 personnel moving northwest at grid BS74224382, and expended 6 HE of 4.2 mortar on the target. At 0543hrs IOS sighted 1 light and 4 stationary personnel at grid BS73773743336 and engaged the target with 12 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortar. At 0815hrs Brigade LRRP insertion Nevada 37, Bloody Stiletto to grid box BS6548, BS7048, BS6544 and BS7044 and the point and time of the insertion will be at BS686442 (Alternate BS696456), some time this morning. At 1055hrs Brigade Colonel Hoffman wants to know the status of the Song Tra Cau clearing. Why did no males show up for Work? What is the future course of actions in their Area of Operation? At 1132hrs 1-20 Infantry the Division Commanding Officer arrived at LZ Liz, was briefed and ate lunch and left at 1235hrs. At 1231hrs 1-20 Infantry to CPT Phillips the call sign and for tomorrow C/S drop will be Sharper 09 and the push is 64.50. This is the call sign for Fox Delta 3. At 1236hrs the Battalion Commanding Officer left LZ Liz for Bravo Company and returned to LZ Liz at 1430hrs. At 1300hrs Brigade LRRP Team Nevada is at BS686443. They have found 30 bunkers with tunnels. They also found a few Chi Com grenades. At 1410hrs Dolphin 26 (1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter) we snatched 3 Vietnamese detainees at grid BS808432, the Vietnamese were of military age and were acting suspicious and evac to LZ Bronco. At 1440hrs Helix FAC we have several structures in the recent repair at grid BS750390. At 1940hrs Radar sighted 6 to 8 personnel that where moving north at grid BS72894105 and negative clearance were given. At 1950hrs Radar sighted 2 vehicles at grid BS78984220, and negative clearance was given. At 2020hrs Radar sighted 4-5 stationary personnel at grid BS797445, engaged the target with 8 HE of artillery 105mm. At 2035hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at grid BS800440, we engaged with 10 HE of artillery 105mm.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0500hrs on 3 February 1970 LZ Bronco at bunker 44 observed 1 VC evading from the bunker line. Bunker guard engaged with small arms resulting in 1 VC KIA he was the POW who escaped from the POW Camp.
Alpha Company

At 0740hrs Alpha Company the 94 and 95 elements have closed on BS746462. At 0745hrs Alpha Company reports all snakes have closed on BS743347. At 0850hrs Alpha Company we found a small tunnel, 6-8 feet deep, which would hold 2 people, we blew it in place. At 1025hrs Alpha Company is at our Day Logger at grid BS746457. Alpha Company at 1030hrs we will have one platoon ambush from BS728469 to BS728450, one platoon ambush from BS728447 to BS720428 and one platoon to react in the vicinity of BS750454 to the North Bridge if necessary. At 1300hrs Alpha Company from grid BS746457 we request 8 personnel be picked up, they have improper ID cards, assorted dress and all were females and will go to the southeast pad. At 1700hrs Alpha Company pick-up addition 3 detainees, they had negative ID and ranged in age from 10 to 50. We will send them to Military Intelligence 1 male 50 and 2 females 20 and 50 years old. At 1850hrs we have multiple ambushes out tonight 63 at BS723447, 64 BS721430, 65 at BS727447, 93 at BS727458, 94 at BS728464 and 95 to BS727453. At 2015hrs Alpha Company reports all snakes are now in their locations.
Bravo Company
February 3, 1970
At 0447hrs Bravo Company the 65 element has closed on the semi permanent position and at 0600hrs 66 has closed on their semi permanent position. At 0746hrs Bravo Company reports in the Combat Assault from BS783433 and BS789413 to BS810413, BS815408, and BS931410 and BS805407, BS810403, and BS820410 the 1st PZ was at 0657hrs and last LZ 0720hrs. At 0900hrs Bravo Company the 92 element found a small tunnel at BS821410. The entrance is 2’ high and about 3 to 4 meters long, we blew it in place. At 0935hrs Bravo Company 58 element will stay behind at grid BS812408. At 1000hrs Bravo Company the 63 element has closed and the 53, 92, 21 and Rangers are sweeping their objectives. At 1125hrs Bravo Company the 92, 21, 53 are moving to grid BS790443 to check out intelligence and they will close on their respective locations. At 1135hrs Bravo Company has 1 VCS (female), approximately 50 years of age, wearing black pants and green shirt. She has one son who is a member of C-219 and another who is a leader of the Farmer’s Association at grid BS798441. At 1400hrs Bravo Company the 53 element has closed on their semi permanent position. At 1805hrs Bravo Company at grid BS765473 there was an explosion set off by a terrorist in Mo Duc. We pursued the enemy out of Mo Duc and the 97 element engaged the force. The enemy stopped at grid BS780470 and laid down a heavy volume of small arms fire and then evaded. The 97 element returned small arms fire, and Gun Ships were called. There where negative casualties in the encounter. At 1918hrs we have found one VC KIA, just outside of Mo Duc, we believe he was a member of the rear guard with the evading VC terrorist who set off an explosion at 1805hrs in Mo Duc grid of KIA BS765473. At 1945hrs Bravo Company 57 snake has moved to BS781439. At 1955hrs Bravo Company element picked up two VC detainees on their sweep back to the North Bridge. One tried to evade from their location and was shot resulting in one VC KIA. The other VC is in the PF hands and they confirmed VC. At 2030hrs Bravo Company additional information on the Mo Duc contact at grid BS786468. The Bravo Company 97 element was sweeping around the Mo Duc area. From what the Vietnamese civilians said a 100 pound satchel charge went off. There where an unknown number of VC in the area. The VC had snipers around the area to aid the other VC in their mission. At 2035hrs Bravo Company the 57 element is at BS787439. At 2200hrs Bravo Company the 87 element in their snake location at BS781439 and were setting up their claymores on the western side of the Red Ball. We engaged with small arms fire and M60 machinegun with the results of one VC KIA carrying one hand frag grenade and one AK47 magazine with approximately 8 to 10 VC evaded into the Ville. In checking out the area we picked up two male detainees and a baby both were of (Military age) and then the 57 element closed on Bravo Company Command Post with 2 detainees. Also Bunker 6 at the Bravo Company Command Post received some small arms fire on the northwest side of perimeter and we engaged with Artillery and with negative results. We also did a slight Cordon and Search on the western side of the Command Post, The Gun ships still on station and working over the area. Final Report on the Bravo Company 57 element contact reveals there were 2 VC KIA, one male about 25 with a AK magazine and a hand frag grenade and one female age 30 with a pen and notebook containing VC information along with 5 other VC detainee. The Village Security Chief after questioning was a target and also 4 Vietnamese were Dust Off from unknown sources of fire. At 2235hrs Bravo Company need an Urgent Dust Off for 2 Vietnamese females who were hit with multiple frag in the legs and abdomen, the sources of fire was unknown. At 2250hrs we need an Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female and 1 Vietnamese baby with wounds in the back and abdomen, unknown source of fire completed at 2310hrs at BS783433. At 2310hrs Bravo Company the 53 element while on their sweep of the area which the VC evaded found 1 female KIA VC from unknown source at grid BS781439. Charlie Company

At 0915hrs 1-20th Infantry to Charlie Company have your snakes from grid BS724421 along boundary to BS752380 and east to BS766380, do not employ them right on the boundary. At 0930hrs Charlie Company the 63 element has closed on BS735418 and the 93 element has linked up and the element is moving to BS757408. At 1026hrs the 93 element and the 95 element are at grid BS765408 at this grid they found a small bag of rice and 3 cans of rice and 1 can of milk. At 1315hrs Charlie Company 93 element is in location at BS769409. At 1645hrs Charlie Company the 53 element has closed on BS768413 and the 93 element has left their Day Logger for the Night Defense Position at BS753391 and the 93 is at BS750386, the 96 element and 845393 with the 97 element. At 1959hrs Charlie Company 95 element spotted 3 personnel with their starlight scope at grid BS753391. We engaged them with small arms with negative results as of now. We checked out the area at 0700hrs to 0800hrs the next morning with negative results. At 2006hrs Charlie Company moving into their Night Defense Position at BS738413, 61-BS742396, 66-BS730401, 55-BS730415, 56-BS730420, 95-BS730415, 96-BS750386, 97-BS745393, 57-BS732409, 63-400 meters to proposed site size of BS741400.
Delta Company
February 3, 1970
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1445hrs Delta Company the 54 element has closed on LZ Liz. At 1605hrs all bunkers are in good condition and all have plumb bobs. Delta Company inspected by CPT Whitaker. At 1930hrs Delta Company reports all snakes are in location, 64 at BS743435, 66 at BS763436, the 54 snake is at BS765438 and the 94 snake at BS769440. At 2300hrs Bunker 15 on Liz received approximately 30 rounds of small arms fire from northeast we engaged with a mad minute.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0725hrs 4.2 Platoon reports in our missions last night a total of 43 HE, 4 WP, 23 Illumination rounds and 6 C/S rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1150hrs Recon our present location is at BS791481 and we will be moving to BS792403 until 1600hrs and we request to have snakes from grid BS788497 to BS790490. At 1814hrs Recon Platoon reports tonight locations Robin Hood BS791463, Little John BS800460 and Will Scarlet BS802458. At 1946hrs Recon Platoon we are in our Night Defense Position at BS797463, with Little John at BS800460 and Will Scarlet at BS802458.
