Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry resupply bird is on station, Minuteman 14 (176 AHC). At 0900hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road reports mine swept. At 0915hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Division Inspection Team arrived at 0915hrs Colonel Hataway in Charge. At 1005hrs 1-20 Infantry on 100% Alert at 0944hrs and the Brigade informed, Red Legs, Company Command Post and 4.2. Mortar Platoon reports 100%. Also at 0950hrs Artillery reports 100% at 0952hrs back to normal at 1002hrs. At 1145hrs 1-20 Infantry Division Fire Support Base inspection team is leaving LZ Liz unsatisfactory report. At 1400hrs 1-20 Infantry Brigade inspection team is at 103. At 1427hrs 1-20 Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Goodwin is at Nui Vong. At 1445hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 5 (11 Brigade Aviation) is on station and broke station at 1551hrs. At 0835hrs 1-20 Infantry 1835hrs LZ Liz Access Road is closed. At 2055hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 1, Bravo 2 and Charlie 4 for a total of 7 out. At 2105hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength Alpha 54, Bravo 65, Charlie 52, Echo 12 and HHC 7. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
August 3, 1971
At 0722hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon on move to Patrol Base at BS757362 and at 1840hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon in Patrol Base at BS755366. Alpha Company continued their multiply patrolling in their Area of Operations. At 1820hrs Alpha Company found 1 booby trap maker in Patrol Base made of bamboo poles in a V Formation pointing to the south of eastside of Blue Line (River) checking out at this time with negative results. At 1910hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon moving to Night Defense Position at BS754368 and closed on location at 1945hrs with 1 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company
August 3, 1971
At 0638hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving out south toward river will call in location later. Bravo Company needs resupply bird to pick up man that fell and hurt leg at grid BS728419. Bravo Company continued to muse multiple patrolling in their area of Operation. At 0930hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is at BS725415 and at 1819hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon is at BS747363. At 1935hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS726416 and at 2038hrs 2nd Platoon moved into their Night Defense Position at BS715434 and Bravo Company will have 2 Mechanical Ambushes out.
Charlie Company
August 3, 1971
At 0930hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon moving out to BS748371. At 1137hrs Charlie Company closed on BS745382 and at 1145hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving out with Charlie Company 1st Platoon closing on their Patrol Base at BS745382 where 4 kids brought 8 mortar fuses to them and were paid with C Rations. At 1800hrs Charlie Company at BS749381 is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS751380 and again will put out 4 mechanical ambushes out.
Delta Company
August 3, 1971
Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0915hrs Delta Company reports at LZ Liz, the Division Inspection team, arrive Colonel Hataway in charge. At 0944hrs 100% Alert and back to moral at 1002hrs. At 1145hrs 1-20 Infantry Division Fire Support Base inspection team is leaving LZ Liz with unsatisfactory report.
Echo Company
August 3, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0600hrs Recon is moving out to LZ Liz and closed on LZ Liz at 0851hrs. At 1110hrs Recon is moving from LZ Liz and at 1505hrs Recon has closed back on LZ Liz.
