Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0045hrs Saber 40 is on station to check a radar sighting vicinity BS780506, engaged 10 to 15 personnel at BS756530 resulting in 11 KIA, broke station at 0147hrs. At 0900hrs Slow Motion 10 is on station at this time and breaks station at 1010hrs. At 1345hrs Pelican 404 (22) is on station for re supply. At 1420hrs Major Edwards and CPT Berdan was informed by198 Brigade 68 1. Major White wants to know why ARVN are getting birds shot down. 2. Why 51 caliber position located at BS618510 and we have troops near. 3. Be sure all are informed of coordinates on Air Strike. 4. If Major Edwards wants a LOH to coordinate it will be provide. Commandeer of Alpha Company responded he had an element observing this area and have not seen or heard 51 caliber firing, will react when requested to. At 1455hrs Slow Motion 10 is on station at this time and at 1650hrs Slow Motion 10 has broke station. At 1830hrs 1-20 Infantry out going Message inform Alpha Company and Bravo Company that they are to 1. Spread out and dig in 360. 2. Insure that all elements have a light to mark location in event air support is necessary at night. At 1935hrs 1-20 Infantry Nighthawk Box 41 and 43 from BS6155 along river to BS6247, 1,000 meters each side. At 2305hrs Q Company Access Road reports seeing 4 personnel in front of bunker #1, engaged with small arms fire, Illumination fired with negative findings. At 2325hrs South OP Radar reports picking up 12 to 20 personnel moving northeast vicinity BS803452, artillery Fire Mission called and Night Hawk ship requested. At 2350hrs TMF Fire Mission 2325hrs String 310 target A, 3 to 5 moving west to east, metal confirmed, engaged at 2340hrs 16 HE VT rounds Artillery 155mm. Legend: 1st Platoon 39, 2nd Platoon 74, 3rd Platoon 31, 4th Platoon 57, CO-52.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
April 3, 1971
At 0800hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon is moving to BS619523. At 1225hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon at BS628523 sighted and engaged 2 VC/NVA evading northwest, engaged the area with M-79 at a distance of 100 meters. An element is sweeping the area at this time. The (VC/NVA) were wearing Black on Black, with negative results. At 1703hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon spotted 2 VC with packs and weapons vicinity BS623526 is calling in a fire mission at this time. The FO reports rounds, in packed directly on target area.
Bravo Company

At 0820hrs Bravo Company at BS640535 and 3rd Platoon while searching found 3 booby traps, two were Petna cans with smoke grenade fused and trip wire, 1was a 82mm mortar round with trip wire, all on a slope in vegetation area all looked to be 2 to 3days old and blown in place. At 0905hrs Bravo Company at BS640535, continuing their search 3rd Platoon found a 2nd 82mm round Booby trap with trip wire blown in place. At 1105hrs Bravo Company BS628537 is called in Artillery after observing 10-20 VC/NVA moving in area. The Artillery uncovered a large tunnel and trench complex, request Air Strike, saw VC/NVA carrying water into the tunnel. FAC is to come on station at 1500hrs. At 1140hrs Bravo Company at BS628537, while observing Artillery impact from their Patrol Base, 1st and 3rd Platoon observed 2 VC dressed in dark colored clothing who, were killed by a direct hit of an Artillery round. An element of 3rd Platoon will sweep the area later in the afternoon. At 1300hrs Bravo Company at BS640534, requested 1 routine Dust Off for 1 US heat stroke, temp 102, 2nd time in 48hours, completed at 1325hrs. At 1540hrs Bravo Company at BS628536 observed numerous bunkers 1 hooch with a bunker complex attached people carrying water all day. Entire area is thick vegetation. At 1645hrs Air Strikes at BS628536 being put in completed at 1700hrs. At 1720hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon spotted 5 VC digging in the vicinity BS629537, calling in Fire Mission, requesting Gun Ships negative assets. At 1830hrs Bravo Company all elements will remain in Patrol Bases for Night Defense Position.
Charlie Company

Delta Company

At 0930hrs Delta Company on trucks en route to LZ Bronco and Security Mission for LZ Bronco or Stand Down. SGT Arthur L. Lawdson was attached to the 95th Evac Hospital (76Y40).
Echo Company
April 3, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0810hrs Recon at BS685422 while in observation position had 1 Mechanical Ambush detonated, engaged the area with artillery and now are sweeping the location at this time. Found blood trails and drag marks moving to west, with 2 - 5 pounds bags of rice. At 1320hrs Recon is in location at BS685439.
