Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0030hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at BS718516. At 0130hrs Radar sighted 5 to 6 stationary personnel at BS789452 with Bravo Company informed. At 0200hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at BS841408 with Bravo Company informed. At 0400hrs Radar sighted at BS740464 6 to 10 stationary personnel. At 0505hrs PPS 5 at BS757445 1 to 2 stationary personnel were sighted and Charlie Company was informed. At 0505hrs Radar sighted 6 to 7 stationary personnel at BS774489. At 0908hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry the 74 and 14 elements both found rice caches. The 14 element has 7,000 pounds at grid BS745552 and the 74 element hasn’t uncovered all of their rice yet, the 14 cache was 5,000 pounds at BS740558. At 0907hrs 26 Engineer the land-clearing site is at BS785565. At 1940hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry we have 3 detainees between the ages of 45 and 60. There area 2 males and 1 female with no IDs and they are at the 14 element location. At 1045hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry we have 500 pounds of rice at BS765569. We have 6 military age’s males at our location ages 30 to 25 with no ID. It was buried in plastic bags and uncovered by the dossier and was locally grown and from last harvest, will be evac to LZ Bronco. At 1230hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry reports their location is at BS765569. At 1510hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry we will have 3 mechanical ambushes at BS770557 tonight. At 1625hrs TMF string 71 has a stationary target with metal detected. It was shot at 1635hrs 10 VT of Artillery 105mm was expended. At 1730hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer a total of 36 hours were netted with 49 acres cleared in the area of BS776569 to BS770467 to BS764579 to BS760560 to BS776566. Also with 15 fighting positions destroyed, 1,00 pounds of rice was found, 400 gallons of fuel used, 4 D7 operational, 1 dead lined with oil seal and 2 CEV are operations. At 1940hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry the Command Post and the 74 element have closed on BS742557, the 14 Night Defense Position is at BS744549, the 15 snake is at BS747553. The 94 Night Defense Position is at BS746561 with a Mechanical Ambush at BS746563, the 97 elements are at BS749560 and the 75 element is moving southwest at BS743557. At 2115hrs Radar sighted at BS765499 5 to 8 stationary personnel. At 2140hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry 15 cases of C rations, 65 gallons of water and ho as for the same number of people in our resupply tomorrow, the rear was informed. At 1915hrs IOS sighted a 81mm tube at BS760414 and engaged with artillery, the sighting continued with a possible bunker and tunnel complex plus possible VC personnel. Charlie Company sent out a squad size patrol to check the area at 2200hrs with negative findings. At 2205hrs Radar sighted 1 to 5 stationary personnel at BS814425.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. CPT Fitzpatrick S-4 request 2,000 sandbags from Brigade CPT Green informed him to tell his commander, if he wants bags, it would come out of his fortification materials.
Alpha Company

Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their use of multiple patrolling and also used multiple sweeps in their Area of Operation today and working with the ARVN Force. (0820hrs Recon requested an urgent Dust Off for 3 US with booby trap OP. The sniper, was KHA (at BS760593.) Bravo Company reports on their morning report that SP4 KURTESS HOWARD WALKER IS LISTED AS KHA.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0630hrs Charlie Company the 78 element has closed on LZ Liz. The 77 element at 2010hrs is on the access road security from BS760435 to BS776445.
Delta Company

At 1010hrs Delta Company Requested Dust Off for one US with Temp at 103.8 ETA 10-15 minutes, complete at 1030hrs, vicinity grid BS736568. 1250hrs Delta Company we request an Urgent Dust Off, one with scorpion sting and others temps 103-104. ETA 20-25 minutes completed at 1300hrs. 2015hrs Delta Company is at BS735563 and the 74 element is at BS737572, the 94 element at BS739562. At 2050hrs Delta Company locations Command Post is at BS735563 and 74 at BS773563, the 95 is at BS737572 and 94 at BS739562.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Fires Mission 6 for a total expended of 10 HE and 45 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0610hrs Recon at 0545hrs the 94 element spotted 8 personnel moving east and sent out a patrol to pursue the personnel and they spotted 2 male personnel evading from the group. A warning shot was fired and they still evaded. We engaged them wounding 1 male in the shoulder (minor) and they picked up the other person. 1 was wearing a white shirt and black shorts and the other a black shirt and gray shorts, ages 25 to 30 at BS770597. They had no ID and also believe they had a pack and weapon when seen at 600 meters but had negative finding. At 0820hrs Recon as request an urgent Dust Off for 3 US with booby trap wounds. The 96 element hit a 15 to 20 pound pressure release type booby trap while moving to their OP. Walker, the Sniper was KIA, Bucholtz had frag wounds to the leg (sniper) and Rodgers had a small frag wound, completed at 0835hrs at grid BS760593. At 0900hrs Recon Platoon the 96 element found another booby trap 15-20 pound powder explosion pull release, which was destroyed in place. The first booby trap was detonated when SP4 KURTESS HOWARD WALKER placed his pack under a tree on the top of the booby trap at grid BS760593. At 0905hrs Recon Platoon the 96 element found another booby trap the same as the first two, it was destroyed in place. The Kit Carson Scout says the area is full of bobby traps it sandy area and the traps are hard to find, we are leaving the area. At 1935hrs Recon Platoon the 95 element has 1 VC/NVA approximately 500 meters southeast of BS754598 and followed him into a Ville at BS754600. The villagers warned the VC and the 95 element spotted and engaged the VC at 150 meters. There were 3 VC, one with an unknown type weapon and 1 with a pack and the other with a blue uniform. The VC evaded to the east with negative finding. In a later report 1 VC was KIA with a pack, 1 Chi Com grenade, 1 flashlight, 1 document with 20 words were CIA. The KIA was 24 years old, had no ID and was dressed in a white shirt and black pants. At 2045hrs Recon Platoon the 94 element is at BS773590, the 95 element is at BS750587 and the 94 element is at BS765583. SP4 KURTESS HOWARD WALKER IS LISTED AS KHA (See Bravo Company) and SP4 Gregory A. Bucholtz was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital (11B20) with frag wounds to face, chest and neck. SP4 Jackson F. Rogers JR. evac to B 23 Medical with frag wounds (L) side and back.
