Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0647hrs 4 ARVN Recon spotted movement to west and engaged with small arms fire, results 2 VC and 1 VC CIA and evac to Bronco, at grid BS815314. At 0802hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road mine swept. At 1710hrs 1-20 Infantry extraction for Recon, AMC is on station at 1655hrs 1st PZ 1703hrs and 1st LZ at 1707hrs 12 packs. At 2037hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 1, Bravo 2 and Charlie 3 for a total of 6 out. At 2100hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength: Alpha 47, Bravo 57, Charlie 48, Echo 12 and HHC 9. At 2235hrs Honest Blue (123 Aviation) checking Bronco perimeter at 2243hrs, LZ Liz at 2243hrs, Snoopy at 2301hrs and broke station at 2309hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
July 31, 1971
Alpha Company will continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1954hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon and Command Post is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS762354 with 2 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company
July 31, 1971
Bravo Company will continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0645hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon found 1 propaganda leaflet and 3 letters telling American to go hone on a trail at BS718438, all written in English. At 1700hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon found another propaganda letter on a heavily used trail. At 2020hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon moved into their Night Defense Position at BS708433 and 2nd Platoon at BS725448 and Bravo Company with 2 Mechanical Ambushes out. Bravo Company also reports their Field Strength today is 57.
Charlie Company
July 31, 1971
Charlie Company will continue to use Patrol Bases and with multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0730hrs Charlie Company found 81mm round (Dud) at BS714465, blown in place. At 0829hrs AM Patrol is moving out BS737350. At 0841hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon moved out to BS744366. At 0900hrs Charlie Company 1st and 2nd Platoons closed to their Patrol Base at BS747358. At 1445hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon found a 105 round booby trap at BS746358 and blew it in place. At 2005hrs Charlie Company set up their Night Defense Position and put out 3 Mechanical Ambush.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and a Security Mission for Access Road.
Echo Company
July 31, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0300hrs Recon conducts Combat Assault with AMC 0830hrs 1st PZ 0838hrs and 1st LZ 0845hrs at BS787387. At 0914hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 2 (11 Brigade Aviation) and broke station at 1039hrs. At 1710hrs 1-20 Infantry extraction for Recon, AMC is on station at 1655hrs 1st PZ 1703hrs and 1st LZ at 1707hrs 12 packs.
