Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0200hrs Duc Pho adviser, outpost receiving small arms fire at Vinh Binh. VC fire is coming from BS797397. At 0202hrs E Troop 1st Calvary 38 element received sniper fire at bridge 112. At 0146 to 0210hrs Duc Pho Adviser Major Smith and undermined of VC attacked Pho Di Village headquarters compound (vicinity of Bridge 113) and threw 5 to 10 hand grenades, no casualties. PF returned fire and VC with drew. At 0750hrs Mo Doc Advisor: at Mo Duc 0400hrs a VC sapper element cut through wire at northeast side of compound. Destroyed bunker with a satchel charge and threw 3 grenades another bunker results 4 KHA and 4 WHA, negative ground contact, At present ARVN Battalion 7 clicks north of Quang Ngai City, 708600, under attach by VC platoon. At 1051hrs 1-20 Infantry reports at BS865315, about 50 VC starting demonstration, in blocking action but can’t cover 1 corner of area request Primo bird. Village Police chief says that 50 people area VCS and that they’re passing out anti Government leaflets. Prim Bird on way to BS865315. At 1310hs 1-20 Infantry reports Engineer at 0945hrs vicinity grid BS881232, Engineer dump truck ran across a mine which exploded behind the truck, no casualties or damage to the truck mine approximately 10 pounds pressure detonated. Left about 4’ X 4’ X 4’ crater in the road. At 1330hrs LRRP Team observed 1 individual moving southwest at BS725338, wearing a pack, fatigue jacket and shorts, seen at 1320hrs unable to determine any other equipment at this time. Duc Pho adviser be informed we will be on Alpha Battery push, also have contact due west 790394, 200 meters along railroad. We are firing 60mm mortar, bridge 115 received small arms fire at BS789417. At 1935hrs MACV Duc Pho received word that an estimated VC company was currently located on and around LZ OD at BS786371 and had raised several VC flags. At 1945hrs Mo Duc Advisor: Quang Ngai advisor captured VC documents stating general offensive of Quang Ngai province for next 5 days.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 2315hrs Received report from Major Pitman reports that 2 PW have escaped from the PW compound between 2130hrs and 2300hrs and Military Police searching area with results at 2359hrs Unit on Red Alert.
Alpha Company
January 31, 1968
Alpha Company continued to set up blocking position and Search and Destroy mission in their Area of Operations. Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 0930hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon has security for Bridges 106 through 108, 2nd Platoon on LZ Thunder and 3rd Platoon is at BS850274. At 2115hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon at BS851270 has squad size ambush at BS851270.
Bravo Company
January 31, 1968
Bravo Company has the 2nd Platoon for Security Mission and the Bridges 104-105, and one in position south of LZ Bronco and one Platoon on Bridge and Road Security. At 0930hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon at BS774342, 2nd Platoon has bridges 104 and 105 with the 3rd Platoon Bravo at BS803334. At 1530hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon at BS773353, 2nd Platoon on bridges 104 and 105. 3rd Platoon is located at BS777332. At 2052hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon reported mortar fire from location approximately BS813300 with impact area unknown.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company (Task Force Barker 198 Light Infantry Brigade) continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie. At 0855hrs Charlie Company observed 40 to 50 VC at BS691815 moving east going to fire Artillery on their location. At 1425hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS679783 engaged 1 VC with pack and uniform results 1 VC KIA. At 1500hrs Charlie Company at BS691815 observed 20 people, moving northeast on north side of the river. At 1730hrs Charlie Company located tunnel with 6 ammo pouches, M-1 ammo, bloody harness at BS679783and at 1600hrs found 1 105 booby trap and at 1605hrs found false wall in hut with 900 pounds of rice.
Delta Company

Delta Company has moved into blocking and support position just south of SA Huynh to support LZ Charlie Brown and Bridges and SA Huynh it self. At 1530hrs Delta Company reports their location 1st Platoon at BS801301, 2nd Platoon at BS894224 and the 3rd Platoon continue to secure Brigade 99 and 100.
Echo Company

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon and radar platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 0930hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS776297. At 1530hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS775290.
