Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0010hrs Blue Ghost 40 requests clearance for Box 65, cleared by LT Lewis. Spotted fire and 1 pack at BS780522 cleared by MACV fired up the area and started a fire, hootch burned up vicinity BS780522. At 0715hrs S-4 reports Dolphin 7 is on station for resupply. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Combat Assault is completed and the Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz. At 1940hrs Shark 11 with Alpha Company vicinity BS780521, en route to final LZ Shark 11 spotted 2 camouflaged bunkers. The last lift of Alpha Company 1st Platoon orbited while the sharks expended in the area, they destroyed both bunkers but had negative secondary explosives or movement. The flight was inserted into their pre planned LZ. At 0955hrs 26 Engineers report Road Open at this time. At 1000hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1030hrs S-4 reports Dolphin 445 is on station for resupply. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0940hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS780521, en route to LZ Shark II spotted 2 camouflaged bunkers. The last lift Alpha Company 1st Platoon orbited while sharks expended in the area. They destroyed both bunkers but had negative secondary explosions or movement. The flight was inserted into their preplanned LZ. At 1150hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS737574 detained 1 woman age 40, wearing all black. They asked her for a ID Card while pulling out her card she also pulled out a USKAC Series 836 G Day 25. The woman and the KAC are being evacuated to Liz. At 1405hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS741574, while at (Check Point 2), the detainee escaped, she went to relieve herself, while the element kept her children, then she disappeared, and She evaded to the East. Elements still has her children as well as the KAC code and are still searching for her now. At 1515hrs 1st Platoon vicinity BS735575, spotted the escaped detainee reported earlier. She was at a distance of 300-350 meters yelled for her to stop, but she refused, they fired warning shots to her right approximately 400 meters away. A Vietnamese female was it by 1 of the warning shots, she was at a distance of 600-700 meters away and was not noticed prior to the firing, no attempt was made to fire warning shots over the head of the escaped detainee due to the proximity of Highway 1. 1st Platoon halted their pursuit of the detainee in order to give assistance to the injured civilian they requested a Priority Dust Off vicinity BS735575 for Vietnamese female hit in leg by bullet. Dust Off completed at 1535hrs.At 1600hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS760580 while on the way to their Patrol Base found 2 propaganda leaflets. Basically they stated: Nixon had promised to withdraw over 100,000 GI to go home to their families, GI are homesick also it is wrong to take ribs and potatoes from the Vietnamese. At 1640hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS741574 has 2 male detainees captured in the area where the female detainee got away. I male is 48 wearing purple and tan, negative ID, other male 15 wearing purple and white and negative ID will extract tomorrow. At 1955hrs Alpha Company locations Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoon BS735396, 3rd ambushes BS24415, BS723415, 2nd Platoon BS756558, BS754557. Alpha Company 1st Platoon BS739558 request 1 Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with small arms wound to upper right leg by AK-47 fire ground action continue request gun ships and flare ship received fire from 400 meters to their north (SGT Ronald Foster), Completed at 2115hrs. (Report: Leg in good shape, not dust off to Chu Lai.) At 2200hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon at BS756558 received 4-6 AK 47 rounds and 7 M-79 HE rounds in the north location. They blew two claymores and the rounds came from their north approximately 100 meters, resulting in one US WIA, wounded in upper leg. Alpha Company reports SGT Ronald M Foster was treated and released at B 23 Medical with Gun Shot Wound to Right Thigh from Small arms fire.

Charlie Company

Charlie Company will conduct Multiple Day and Night Ambushes and Multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operations, and set up their Night Defense Position at BSS699563.
Delta Company
December 31, 1970
Delta Company will continue Patrolling in the Area of Operation. At 0710hrs Delta Company Command Post is moving to BS753396, 3rd Platoon is moving to BS722418 and 1st Platoon is moving to BS759378. 1st Platoon vicinity BS759378, bought 2 60mm Mortar rounds, Lot #MA-12-185.6-69 from Vietnamese children. They were paid 5 cans C Rations rounds were all destroyed in place. At 1545hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS753396 and the 1st Platoon patrol reports at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS751376. At 1735hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS723410, 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS762383 and 3rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS723410. At 1925hrs Delta Company Command Post 2nd and 4th Platoon BS735396, 3rd Platoon BS724415, BS723412, 2nd Platoon BS735399, 1st Platoon BS759376, BS756375.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
