Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0615hrs Battalion Command Message to companies "Prevent Ambushes, Recon by Fire". At 0740hrs 11th Brigade has extension, 1-20 Infantry (Area of Operations) for pavement of highway 1 (Alpha Company). From the 57 grid line north to 60 grid line to BS734545 will be used by Alpha Company to continue pavement of Highway. At 0915hrs Helix 35 FAC has a Air Strike going into BS764433. At 1125hrs LZ Liz a Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery 5 Ton truck hit an unknown size mine on access road into LZ Liz. Results 2 US WIA and the truck is a total lost. Personnel spotted 3 to 4 personnel that were evading from area of mine incident taking under fire at this time. Dust Off for the 2 US WIA with Command and Control Helicopter competed at 1130hrs. At 1350hrs LZ Liz sending in one VCS for further questioning he is a Civil Defendant and member of the Farmers Association. Engineers picked him up because he kept watching them while they dug up a mine, they found on access road BS778444. At 2345hrs results from Access Road, 1 KIA and I WIA both were from Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery (PFC DAVID JERRRY GIVENS listed as KIA for Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery).
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 2135hrs LZ Bronco SI-5 at BS825371 picked up 3-5 persons and fired 24 (81 mm mortars) rounds, Quad 50 and 21 rounds (105mm Artillery).
Alpha Company
August 31, 1969
At 0620hrs Alpha Company 66 element has closed. At 1305hrs Night Defense Position tonight BS728550 and will be moving to this location in 30-60 minutes. At 1420hrs Alpha Company we are now in location BS728550.
Bravo Company
August 31, 1969
At 0615hrs (Command message to companies, to prevent ambushes Recon by fire). At 1305hrs Bravo Company reports it is moving out for a Condon and Search operation received sniper fire from west side, putting fire on sniper at this time. At 1750hrs the Utility was in bound to Bravo Company, received 1-2 AK 47 fire from the west returned fire, negative results grid BS803420. At 2245hrs Bravo Company moved into their Night Defense Position BS785429.
Charlie Company
August 31, 1969
At 0800hrs Charlie Company us located at BS725463 will use saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2020hrs Charlie Company Night Defense Position is at BS727468 with the 81 snake at BS725427 and the 64 snake at BS725465.
Delta Company
August 31, 1969
Delta Company checked out area in front of bunkers 7 and 8 with negative results and continues their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Echo Company
August 31, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. 4.2 Platoon reports Defense Targets 1, Schedule Mission 7, Observe Mission 2, total expend 31 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0645hrs Recon Platoon is now moving from LZ Liz also tracks. At 0815hrs Recon reports their present location and tracks at BS741426. At 0935hrs Recon we are moving out of last location and report there is about 6 VC/NVA following us, all have packs and weapons. At 1020hrs Recon swept area thought we spotted 10 VC/NVA with negative results. Will be moving south with tracks into a small Ville and will search area.
