At 0520hrs TMF S-75B 6 personnel moving southwest to northeast at 3 miles per hour, negative metal confirmation, and engaged at 0517hrs with 6 HE with 105 Artillery. At 0650hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary is moving out for BS698573. At 0905hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary at BS681582, 1 was carrying weapon dressed in black and white, 2 with negative weapons dressed in green and black, men evaded north. The Vietnamese females in the area, they said they carried no weapons and ran away because they were afraid, at this grid, they found 100 pounds of corn in hootch, in a laundry bag. At 1250hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary are all at Delta 12 location at BS670575. At 1945hrs Brigade S-3 Assistant CPT Whittaker stated Charlie Company will not have to move from Area of Operation, ARVN will not move into Area of Operation until 020800hrs October 1970 Charlie Company was notified at 1947hrs. At 2008hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC received call from Brigade LT Pack stated 4-21 Infantry will run Combat Assault tomorrow and they want to pull our utility bird and run our resupply from 1400hrs to 1600hrs. The S-3 replied that the decrease in resupply time was be unsatisfactory an automatic extension will be requested at 011600hrs October 1970. At 2020hrs TMF S-67reports negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 2050hrs Air Calvary #63A 010500hrs to 011200hrs to 012000hrs October 1970 Upper Left BS6655, Lower right BS7051, also # 64B 010500hrs to 0112000hrs October 1970 BS7245 to BS76538 to BS7536 to BS7340 to BS7040 to BS7245. At 2300hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary 12 reports that he heard an explosion and thinks 1 of the 26 element’s Mechanical Ambushes might have gone off. Bravo Company
September 30, 1970
At 0815hrs, Bravo Company 34 element while on sweeping operation found 600 pounds of rice in 100 pound bags unpolished, this year crop in good condition under an old RR car at BS698585. At 0900hrs Bravo Company 34 engaged 5 VC at BS685588, all weapons engaged at 100 meters evaded into heavy brush, checking area, may have wounded one, but have found no blood trails. At 1000hrs Bravo Company 34 has 1 female detainee 65 at BS695588, dressed in black, negative ID, found in area of contact sent to Military Intelligence. At 1500hrs Bravo Company at meeting with local Security Chief received report that there was large rice cache vicinity BS653622, scheduled as target for Combat Assault. Bravo Company 87 was reacting to intelligence of 8 VC trying to make a night river crossing. Lead element 5 PF walked into a ambush, received automatic weapons fire from estimated 3 to 5 personnel from approximately 10 meters. And the 87 element returned fire with small arms and Command Post fired Illumination support and 87 returned to Command Post results 1 PF WIA shot in ankle, require a Priority Dust Off in morning. Bravo Company received intelligence at 1000hrs from Security who gave it to PF who passed it to Bravo Company.
Charlie Company

At 0655hrs Charlie Company 34 element is moving out to BS648510 and the 84 element at BS650498. At 0735hrs Charlie Company 57 element is moving out for BS646506. At 0950hrs Charlie Company reports the 37 element at checkpoint 1 at BS648515 and the 84 element at checkpoint 2 at BS660497. At 1240hrs Charlie Company reports the 84 element in their objective area at BS679512. At 1515hrs 1-20 Infantry to Charlie Company: Cancel all plans for tomorrow, send me plans that will keep you east of the 66 North/South grid line. Do not plan an operation in the south half of the BS6650. We loose the area west of gridline 66 tomorrow morning. At 1852hrs Charlie Company 12, 04 and 54 is moving out for BS654505, the 34 element to BS652506 and the 84 element moving to BS653503. At 1945hrs Brigade S-3 Assistant CPT Whittaker stated Charlie Company will not have to move from Area of Operation, ARVN will not move into Area of Operation until 020800hrs October 1970 Charlie Company was notified at 1947hrs. At 2045hrs Charlie Company at BS679512 the 84 element found a base camp. Looked as if the area had been used within the last 3 – 4 days, bamboo was still green, Artillery and possible Air Strike called in.
Delta Company

At 0720hrs Delta Company 57 element closed on BS650574 and 54 in their Day Logger at BS650574 with the 84 element in their Day Logger at BS666586. At 0815hrs Delta Company Dust Off, routine, completed pack with Leg, wound. At 1250hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary and are all at Delta Company the 12 location at BS670575. At 1623hrs 1720hrs Delta Company 36 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS682577. At 1800hrs Delta Company extracted a total of 8,300 pounds of rice. At 1950hrs Delta Company locations Command Post BS663573, 84 BS674583, 86 BS663584, 58 BS644572 and 56 BS649573.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon is located at LZ Liz and continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
