Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. From Brigade: Effective immediately no traffic on Highway 1 except for emergency vehicles. At 0300hrs MACV Mo Duc reports RF Platoon 937 at grid 752640 received 6 hand frags in wire-enemy unit unknown, engaged with small arms with negative friendly casualties and unknown enemy casualties. At 0825hrs Weather forecast to 202400 October 1970, ceiling 400’ broken, overcast 800’, and visibility ¾ mile also there will be 2 to 4" rain in the lowlands, 4 to 8" rain in highlands. Wind will be east to northeast, 15-20 knots, gust to 35 knots, possible intermittent 200’ overcast, 1/8 of mile visibility. At 1255hrs Message from Division: Stop using sampans, sampans will be used only in case life is jeopardized. At 1845hrs Brigade all flights restricted to Tactical Emergency. Each Battalion will submit by 2100hrs his status report pertaining to status of Class I on hand in each Company size unit to include Headquarters and Headquarter Company also personnel status. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 02.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

Bravo Company

Bravo Company reports most operations on hold and at 1927hrs reports Bravo Locations at 05 at BS720609, 55 at BS718614, and 85 is at BS726611.
Charlie Company
October 30, 1970
At 1015hrs Charlie Company 83 element at grid BS741617, moved into grid BS741617, moved into location to help 03 the element. Two men volunteered to attempt the crossing in a small boat. After going about 200 meters the boat capsized, one of the individuals in the boat could not swim or panicked the remaining man could not give assistance. At this time a third man from the 83 element went to their aid as well as 3 men from the 03 element. Two of the men from the 03 element reached one member of the 83 element and took him to safety (83 element location) while the 3rd man from the 83 element was not seen again, Name SGT Asanoma. Time of incident was 1015hrs to 1030hrs. Man who attempted rescued was PFC Harold R. Watts (Charlie 83). At 1155hrs Charlie Company 03 closed on foot of the big Red at grid BS747618. One sampan turned over losing 1 radio, and unknown number of weapons and rucksacks. Total 9 M-16, 11 203, 1 PRC 25, 14 rucksacks missing. At 1625hrs Charlie Company 02 element at grid 734608 received incoming friendly Artillery fire, 4 rounds of 155mm Artillery 2 rounds outside perimeter and 2 rounds inside their perimeter. They immediately called a check fire results 4 WIA (3 Urgent and 1 Routine) 1 M203 destroyed or lost, Dust Off Completed at 1707hrs 1 US with head wound, 1 with back wound, 1 with chest wounds, 1 with a minor wound. At 1800hrs Charlie Company has all elements closed together at 742612. SGT FRANCISCO M. ASANOMA IS LISTED AS KHA. At 1800hrs Charlie Company reports all elements closed together at BS742612
Delta Company

At 0430hrs Delta Company 53 element is at highway 1 grid BS724571 and moving South on road to Dragon. At 1607hrs Delta 53 is stranded just north of MACV Mo Duc grid BS7335543, Two personnel have been washed off the road and been rescued. The water is about waist deep and approximately 7 miles per hour. Cannot move to south, and cannot move east or west, the water would be over their heads. At 1645hrs Delta Company a truck attempted to reach Delta 53 element however truck stalled and could not reach them. Notified Brigade requested engineer boat or APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) but APC could not make it up highway 1.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2Platoon is providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0653hrs Recon Platoon has closed on LZ Liz.
