Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company Searched and Clear the area of contact area in vicinity AT9726 to AT9826 as they moved out on their Search and Clear operations to AT974340 to AT971433.
Bravo Company
May 30, 1968
Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Ryder and will maintain 1 Platoon OP in vicinity BS960360. At 1207hrs Bravo Company at AT960363 a VC walked into ambush engaged with results 1 VC KIA, he 1 US pistol belt, 1 pack, 30 pounds of brown sugar, 1 US Dog Tag CIA (Dog Tag had a man name on it (Dyert, Jackie E. US xxx blood type A). At 1710hrs Bravo Company at AT960363 observed 2 VC moving west to east ambush set up engaged with small arms fire at 25 meters with results 2 VC KIA. Dressed in black PJ, home made packs, wallets with papers, 1 had a first aid packet NVA type, ages 20-25, papers will be evac tomorrow.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Ross with responsibility for keep Road open. At 0830hrs Charlie Company at BT015340 found booby trap a M26 hand grenade with trip wire running across Punji pit. The Punji pit was 16" X 12" deep, covered with card board, and card board was covered with grass and dirt and both were destroyed. At 0850hrs Charlie Company grid BT013340 located tunnel 3 X 2 X 8long also a small branch running off of it 3 X 2 8 long and inside found 3 satch charges with 2 Chi Com firing devices all will be destroyed. At 0905hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon road sweep at checkpoint I.
Delta Company

Delta Company started their Sweep and Clear operation vicinity AT9733-AT9632 moving to AT974340 to AT971433. At 0715hrs Delta Company at AT967328 received 15 rounds of sniper fire from 250 meters 65degree, negative casualties and calling artillery and now checking area. At 1125hrs Delta Company at 977332 found a tunnel 12 X 4 X 3 leading to a room 6 X 6 X 5 high and it had a false bottom in it, which lead to another tunnel 20 X 4 High it lead down to a room 8high 20 long and 3 wide, blew the 1st room causing the rest to cave in. At 1310hrs Delta Company observed two VC evading south east at 200 meters and engaged with the results being 1 VC KIA BS977336 wearing green uniform also CIA a poncho, along with rice and other food. Also detained 1 VC who had some paper saying he is a VC sniper and had a pass to travel in VC areas. Delta Company will continue to sweep to BS974340 to BS971433. Delta Company reports their Night Defense Position at AT970345.
Echo Company
May 30, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon reports have manned and maintained OP at BT000315, BT000370 and BT045380. At 1901hrs Recon reports they observed at AT999375 then 9 more joined them and engaged with artillery 6 VC at 1100 meters northeast of their location with results being 2 VC KIA (saw pieces of bodies flying through the air).
