Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0200hrs MACV Mo Duc Headquarters RF 1-16 at BS733653, Unknown size enemy force has launched a mortar and ground attack against Duc Phuong Outpost. The enemy fired 20 rounds of 82mm mortar rounds 10 rounds of recoilless rounds, and small arms fire. Nighthawk is on station at 0225hrs and spotted 1 VC in a hole, no clearance to fire from Advisors, Saber 44 is on station the VC appeared to be wounded, two VC got into the compound but were killed outside the advisors bunker. Advisors reports results where 2 US advisors were WIA and with 15 RF WIA also 2 VC KIA. At 0210hrs Radar South OP spotted 10 to 15 personnel moving northeast vicinity BS777447, Duc Pho MACV alerted and Brigade notified, target located in village. At 0410hrs MACV Mo Dc at BS733654 requests Urgent Dust Off for 13 RF with multiple frag wounds caused by incoming mortars and small arms fire, Bird #89 completed at 0450hrs. At 0520hrs PF 154 at BS715600 unknown size enemy force attacked Kien Khuong Hamlet, VC used small arms fire and B-40 rockets, results is 2 PF KIA, PSDF KIA, 1 civilian KIA (assistant hamlet chief KIA). At 0600hrs RF 1-16 Duc Phong Headquarters, sometime during the night 0200hrs approximately 2 ambushes from RF 1-16 out post (BS733650 and BS733656) were attacked and over run. Present estimate is that there are 9 or 10 KIA more will follow. At 0630hrs MACV Mo Duc at BS733653 requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 ARVN, 2 RF/PF/Civilian and 2 US Received wounds in contact of 0200hrs. At 0655hrs MACV Mo Duc requests Urgent Dust Off for 9 more personnel Bird # 89 completed. At 0734hrs MACV Mo Duc at 733653 requests priority Dust Off for 1 RF with multiply frag wounds also routine for 5 RF received wounds in contact of 0200hrs Bird #88 completed at 0741hrs. At 1048hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault of Alpha and Bravo Company a switch in locations. LZ Times:1 LZ Bravo 79 1000hrs, 2 LZ Alpha 39 1010hrs, 3. LZ Bravo 88 1016hrs, 4. LZ Alpha 88 1021hrs, 5. LZ Bravo 39 1026hrs, 6. LZ Alpha 79 1031hrs, 7. LZ Bravo 37/17 1036hrs, 8. LZ Alpha 37/17 1041hrs and 9. LZ Alpha 88 1046hrs the Combat Assault is completed. At 1330hrs Minuteman 377 is on station for re supply. At 1350hrs IOS South OP spotted 4 VC in open with packs and weapons artillery Fire Mission was called and engaged with 14 rounds HE and 8 fire cracker rounds were fired, Recon will be checking the area. At 1440hrs TMF 64 B is activated, Artillery Fire Mission is called and expended 8 rounds VT on each activation. At 2125hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar on OP3 sighted 10 to 15 personnel moving north vicinity BS778463, requested Nighthawk from brigade, denied by Division MACV informed at 2132hrs from Brigade and worked up a 4.2 Fire Mission on target. At 2305hrs RF 167, BS776535 MACV Mo Duc reports Nui Ong Do fishing Ville is under 82mm mortar fire and RPG from unknown size enemy force. Contact was broken at 2359hrs requested Urgent Dust Off for 2 PF with gunshot wounds to chest and completed at 0040hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 88, 2nd Platoon 79, 3rd Platoon 39, 4th Platoon 17, CO-37.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. SP5 JB Jenkins was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital medic.
Alpha Company
March 30, 1971
At 0100hrs Alpha Company reports movement 200 meters north of Command Post, have it under observation (4.2 notified) at grid BS684534 cleared for Fire Mission when called for all other elements report negative Situation Report. Alpha Company sweeps the area and waited to make a Combat Assault into LZ Liz 1st PZ a 0955hrs and last LZ at 1046hrs to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Bravo Company

Bravo Combat Assault 1st PZ at 0955hrs and last LZ 1036hrs. At 1520hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon found a dud 155 round was not booby trap, was blown in place. At 1650hrs 2nd Platoon closed at BS656534. At 1945hrs Bravo Company locations, Command Post, 4th Platoon at BS679547, 1st Platoon and 3rd Platoon at BS669557, and 2nd Platoon at BS649563.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their patrols in their Area of Operation. At 1905hrs the 1st Platoon observed and engaged 1 VC with pack and weapons, the VC then evaded to the southwest and the Platoon searched the area of engagement with negative results. At 1930hrs Charlie Company all elements in pre planned locations Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon is at BS714452, 1st Platoon is at BS709444, 2nd Platoon ambush is at BS718453, 3rd Platoon is at BS717465 and 3rd Platoon ambush is at BS715465. Charlie Company reports the following PFC Thomas P. O’keef and PFC David J. Talbert where evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Delta Company

Delta Company is moving to establish blocking and be in position, with some Recon in Force patrols Delta Company worked their Area of Operations. At 0637hrs 3rd Platoon is moving to their pre planned location at BS698508. At 0655hrs Delta Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon is at BS682508 and 1st Platoon is at BS652503. At 0900hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon Patrol Base has changed to BS697508. At 1140hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out to BS647504, 2nd Platoon patrol closed on BS682508 and the 3rd Platoon patrol closed on vicinity BS698508. At 1150hrs Delta Company at BS677503, 2nd Platoon patrol found a bunker at grid, BS677503 the entrance was 4’ X 4’ was well camouflaged and had been used within the last 48 hours. At 1520hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon requested Priority Dust Off for 1 US from heat exhaustion Line # M3621 and bird # 83 completed at 1550hrs. At 1940hrs Delta Company Command Post and 2nd and 4th platoon at BS683508, 1st platoon BS678504, 2nd platoon ambush at BS681502 and 3rd platoon at BS693512 and 3rd platoon ambush is at BS693503.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0635hrs Recon is moving to Patrol Base at BS745396. At 0749hrs Recon is in location at BS742403 and at 0930hrs Recon Patrol is moving to BS747416. At 1507hrs Recon Little John moved out to BS723411. At 1655hrs Recon Night Defense Position will be vicinity BS746416. At 1935hrs Recon has closed on their Night Defense Position. 1LT Frank W. Korons was evac to 6th convalescent center.
