Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0304hrs Radar sighted 4 to 5 stationary personnel at grid BS791451 negative clearance was given due to the proximity of Bravo Company. At 0315hrs Shark 5 we have gun ships and flare ships on station. At 0819hrs 1-20 Infantry be uptight on supplies and have 2 day supply of rations keep in mind on re supply. Weather conditions may be poor for us for a while. At 1140hrs 1-20 Infantry the finance officer will be available on 3 February 1970 for cashing checks, money orders. At 1350hrs Brigade Weather Warning: from 1300hrs to 1800hrs on 30 January 1970 with winds coming from 300 to 340 degrees at 15 to 18 knots and gusts up to 30 knots. At 1435hrs 1-20 Infantry Brigade Commander arrived at LZ Liz was briefed and left at 1525hrs. At 2035hrs IOS sighted 1 stationary light at grid BS776417, we engaged with 4 HE of Artillery 105mm. At 2110hrs IOS sighted 1 stationary light at grid BS736438, negative clearance. At 2155hrs IOS sighted 1 stationary light at grid BS807444, we engaged with 6 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm. At 2325hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 Stationary personnel at grid BS718413, we engaged with 32 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
January 30, 1970
At 0638hrs Alpha Company all snakes have closed on BS736443. At 0931hrs Alpha Company the 54 element is moving on a small patrol. At 0819hrs 1-20 Infantry be up tight on re supply and have 2 day supply of rations. Weather conditions may be poor for us for a while. Alpha Company continued with their sweep operation in the morning and patrolling in their Area of Operations. They established their Night Defense Position and put out night ambushes. At 1735hrs Alpha Company all snakes have moved out with the 63 to BS622447, 64 to BS716445, 65 to BS727446, 93 to BS728459, 94 to BS727455 and the 95 snake to BS726459. At 1914hrs Alpha Company all snakes have closed on their location. At 2335hrs Alpha Company asked to check out the following grid in morning (BS725431).
Bravo Company
January 30, 1970
At 0250hrs Bravo Company the 96 element had 15 to 20 VC/NVA walk through their snake location at BS790447, they were moving to southwest we engaged them with small arms fire and M-60 machine guns with no return of fire. The Bravo Company reports results were 2 KIA and one with an AK-47 and one with B40 rocket. One of the KIA was not recovered and is still in the river. The KIA with the AK47 was wearing black shorts and white T-shirt. He had a US canteen, and US pistol belt. While we were checking out the area a grenade went off and checking out the area a grenade went off and 1 Vietnamese of the 189 PF Platoon received a slight shoulder and neck wound and the 96 element leader also had a slight frag in the leg. The other VC evaded to the southwest with their packs and weapons. The 94 element received sniper fire from their south at about 400 meters, negative results and this location BS776446. The 96 element leader name is Gatton (I believe SGT Edward J. Gatton). At 0444hrs Bravo Company the 55 patrol was cancelled for today due to the contact this morning. At 0445hrs Bravo Company the tracker dog will be ready to be picked up at the southeast pad. At 0550hrs Late Report additional items found by the 93 element at grid BS778446 were 12 kilograms of marijuana, 2 cases of speed (dope), medical supplies, parts of a 30 Caliber and 11 rounds of 30 caliber ammo. At 0624hrs Bravo Company the 95 element closed on BS778445. At 0646hrs Bravo 97 is moving to BS778467 and Rangers are moving to BS790447 along with the 53 element. At 0908hrs Bravo company we need an Urgent Dust Off for three Vietnamese with multiple frag wounds from friendly fire Dolphin 25 made the Dust Off completed at 0935hrs grid BS796453. Bravo Company the Gorilla element has one VC KIA, 35 years old, with no ID, and wearing a black shirt and blue pants. He had a hand grenade, medical supplies and one poncho. He was evading to the grid BS796453. At 1040hrs Bravo Company the 53 element is moving back to BS790447, we took several rounds of fire from BS805456, it seemed to be from 2 to 3 small arms, we calling in Artillery. At 1110hrs Bravo Company the 53 element has closed on BS783433. At 2350hrs the 56 element has spotted 5 personnel walking east to west on the Red Ball, we engaged the personnel with M-79 and small arms. The personnel evaded to the north and are now inside a hootch in small Ville north of Bravo Company Command Post. The 56 element has the hooch under observation there is negative results at this time. We will thoroughly check out the area in the morning.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company is on LZ Liz and taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0845hrs Charlie Company all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1920hrs Charlie Company the following snakes are moving out, the 96 snake to BS759451, the 66 snake to BS772440, the 55 snake to BS767437 and the 97 snake to BS762435.
Delta Company
January 30, 1970
At 0730hrs Delta Company all snakes have closed on BS739410. At 0735hrs Delta Company 64 element while moving back to the Night Defense Position found 2 hootches built in a trench line. These hootches had to been built in the last 4 days. The 64 element destroyed the hootches. At 0819hrs 1-20 Infantry be up tight on re supply and have 2 day supply of rations. Weather conditions may be poor for us for a while. At 1440hrs Delta Company vicinity BS742406 the 63 element found 170 rounds of M-16 ammo, 200 milligrams of chileriguin, 51 ID cards, a bundle of documents. These items were found in a 50 cal ammo can buried in the ground. The Delta Company 63 element spotted 2 sticks on the ground in the form of a V, the point of which was pointing to a mound of dirt we dug up the ammo can in the dirt. At 1705hrs Delta Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS735414. At 1936hrs Delta Company all snakes are in location 54 at BS737423, 55 at BS729416, 56 at BS734409, 94 at BS745411, and 95 at BS747407. Also Delta Company snakes the 64 at BS742406, the 75 at BS734418 and the 66 at BS749413.
Echo Company
January 30, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0630hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fire 7, Observed Mission 2, Unobserved Mission 3 and Defense Target 4 for a total of 79 HE, 7 WP and 15 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1850hrs 1-20 Infantry assemble your element as soon as possible and place 3 snakes on the trail from BS768405 to BS777403 (east and west on line 500 in the mountains and Recon in Force to BS765415 and then continue to LZ Liz. At 1905hrs Recon we observed 1 light in the same area as Bravo Company recent contact at grid BS788414. At 2005hrs Recon Platoon is moving to their snake location. At 2245hrs Recon our platoon is location at BS772405 and the Little Al is at BS769405 and the Little John is at BS776403. At 2335hrs Recon and Alpha Company in reaction to intelligence we informed Recon to check out BS7678406 and BS773387. We also notified Alpha Company to check out the following grid in the morning at BS725431.
