Headquarters and Headquarter Company
January 30, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0847hrs 1-20 Infantry received information from MACV Advisor that the PF at Sa Huynh had killed 4 enemy and weapons were picked up by people of nearby village vicinity BS830337. At 2345hrs CPT McDonald, MACV notified 1-20 Infantry that one VC platoon had reportedly moved to BS866318 and had tried to capture and or kill the village chief. The Village chief was warned and successfully fled to a PF unit on Highway 1. 1-20 Infantry formed a platoon size unit composed of men from 4 bridges in vicinity of LZ Thunder and moved on tracks to area with Village Chief, PF and E troop element. At 2357hrs Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry radio transmission reported that VC unit (size of force no known) had proceeded along the southern perimeter of LZ Thunder towards the northwest making notations as they proceeded. Area searched with negative results.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1115hrs EOD team called to check if any friendly troops were in vicinity of ASP on beach at Carentan vicinity coordinates BS8637. EOD team is getting ready to blow some old unserviceable ammo. At 1147hrs Recon Platoon is located at BS777294.

 

Alpha Company
January 30, 1968

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder and using multiple patrolling and night ambushes in their Area of Operation. Alpha Company 1 Platoon has moved with Recon to be able to security LZ Charlie Brown and support Delta Company at SA Huynh, and one platoon in position to support Duc Pho and LZ Bronco. At 1147hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon on bridges 108, 2nd Platoon at BS962328 with 3rd Platoon at BS850273. At 1245hrs Alpha Company at BS863328, 1125hrs while on patrol picked up 1 male VCS reports age as 15 no ID card, Colonel Beers going out to pick up VCS. At 1430hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon at BS842318, 2nd Platoon at BS858348, 3rd Platoon at BS850274. At 1530hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon is at BS849307 and 2nd Platoon at BS875314, 3rd Platoon at BS850273. Bravo Company
January 30, 1968

At 1147hrs Bravo Company reports 1st Platoon at BS781336, 2nd Platoon on bridges 104-105 with 3rd Platoon at BS797363. All Bravo Elements closing on LZ OD. At 1330hrs Bravo Company reports their locations 1st Platoon at BS781338, and 3rd Platoon at BS812352. Bravo Company 2nd Platoon is at LZ Charlie Brown and at 1530hrs taken over security for Bridges 104-105. At 1455hrs Bravo Company vicinity BS784342 engaged 1 VC results 1 VC KIA and 1 M1 rifle CIA with individual documents as well.

 

Charlie Company
January 30, 1968

Charlie Company (Task Force Barker 198 Light Infantry Brigade) continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie. At 1015hrs Charlie Company found fresh dug tunnels and tools for digging at BS686832 also found 4 fresh graves. At 1658hrs from Americal CPT Stevenson- Tet Truce in Vietnam is called off as 0945hrs of January 30, 1968. At 1215hrs Charlie Company during Search and Destroy operations detained 4 VC of military age, 3 had no ID, one had a week old flesh wound. The VC will be evac to POW cage at Brigade. At 1340hrs 3rd Platoon engaged 3 VC running south results 1 VC KIA found homemade hand grenade and 3rd platoon in pursuit of other two.

 

Delta Company
January 30, 1968

At 0800hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon at BS797313 engaged 10-15 enemy and gun ships, on station, also people lying down in road vicinity of Bridge 108 and Delta Company still searching for VC. At 0925hrs Delta Company is still checking area for the 10-15 VC. At 1000hrs Bravo Company is moving to block position vicinity BS7932. At 1120hrs Delta Company found a hut with rice, large amount of machinegun ammo, 1 booby trap, 1 Champion 12 gauge shotgun full choke, 2nd Platoon at 104-105, with the 3rd Platoon at BS797363 with 2nd Platoon at BS903221, 3rd Platoon bridges at 99-100. At 1147hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is at BS797301, 2nd Platoon is at BS903221 and 2nd Platoon at BS903221 with 3rd Platoon on Bridges 99-100. At 1540hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is at BS802312 and 2nd Platoon is at BS793221 with 3rd Platoon on Bridges.

 

Echo Company
January 30, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon and radar platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 1302hrs Recon Platoon while in ambush position engaged 2 VC, result 1 VC KIA and 1 VC WIA who they area searching for. CIA 1 French type 7.62 dated on weapon 1936hrs. At 1540hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS773296.
