Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 30, 1970

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0750hrs 1-20 Infantry Helix 37 is on station for Visual Recon BS7850 and BS7849, departed north at 0830hrs. At 0845hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS7664473, requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female with minor frag wounds to the stomach Dust Off completed at 0855hrs. At 0910hrs 26 Engineers, report Road is open. At 1025hrs OP Frag requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese boy age 12 with frag wound to had, completed at 1039hrs. At 1110hrs S-5 at LZ Dragon, VIP program purchased 1 M-72 Law from a Vietnamese child paid 200 piasters. At 1140hrs Helix 34 on station for Visual Recon of BS6655 to BS6556, spotted a trail network and diggings in foothills vicinity BS655554. At 1416hrs Q Company paid 3 meals of C Rations to some children 10 to 15 years old for the followings: 1 8" Artillery round, 2 155mm Artillery rounds, 1 RPG round, 60 M-1 rounds, all were destroyed in place. At 1430hrs S-4 reports Dolphin 340 is on station for resupply. At 1950hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS674588, translation of VC propaganda " Dear RF and PF, What do you think of this war in Vietnam? Take your weapons in your hands kill all of the US that live with you. Give your weapons back to the South Vietnam Government go back to your families. We hope you will, if you do not you will be killed with the US". This propaganda was to be disseminated, by 1 speaker that is walking up and down through the Ville. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
December 30, 1970

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
December 30, 1970

Bravo Company will continue their Saturation Patrolling in their Area of Operation. Bravo Company at OP Frag received 10 60mm Mortar rounds impacting 400 meters north of OP. RF searching the area observed approximately 5 VC evading to the northwest of OP, search the area with negative finding. At 1025hrs Bravo Company request a Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese boy age 12 with frag wounds to head, completed at 1039. At 2150hrs Bravo Company radar sighting vicinity BS735426, 5-7 personnel, 2nd Platoon will be moving to target 500 meters to the west of their location. At 2223hrs Bravo Company engaged the area with small arms fire and checked the area out with negative finding.

 

Charlie Company
December 30, 1970

At 0730hrs Charlie Company Command Post at OP Wink vicinity BS699563, 2nd Platoon OP Woodstock BS676557 and 1st Platoon is at OP Pax at BS693538. At 0805hrs Charlie Company at vicinity BS707557 requests Urgent Dust Off for 2 US soldiers with minor frag wounds to legs and torso by a can of Petna with a trip wire strung across a trail, Dust Off completed at 0825hrs. The 2 men were evac Robert Horton with minor frag wounds to both legs, slight wound to the right temple, and broken right arm. Thomas D. Crum, slight wound on the right temple, bruise on neck. Dust Off completed t 0825hrs. At 0850hrs OP Frag Dust Off for 1 RF frag wounds to legs caused by a booby trap completed at 0915hrs. At 1400hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon at OP Pax bought 1 claymore from 11 year old Vietnamese male Lot # LOP/2/73. In good condition with no legs, paid 1 box of C-Rations and destroyed in place. At 1830hrs Charlie Company reports a loud speaker sending VC propaganda vicinity BS671577. Nghia Hanh will take action against it as well as the 2nd Platoon at OP Woodstock. MACV says it is telling RF and PF to leave area as it belongs to the VC. Charlie Company reports at PFC Thomas D. Crum was treated and released at 23 Medical with frag wound eye and neck and PFC Robert J. Horton was evac to 91 Evac Hospital with frag wounds both legs and FX Right Arm all by booby trap.

 

Delta Company
December 30, 1970

Delta Company will continue to patrol their Area of Operation. At 0755hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon is moving out for BS750410 and BS745415, Command Post at BS755398, 1st Platoon is at BS756378 and 2nd Platoon is at BS755398. At 1215hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS759378 bought 1 105mm Artillery HE round from a 14 year old Vietnamese male, paid 2 cans of C Rations. It was half full of explosive and very old, had a negative Lot #, and destroyed. At 1415hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS765383, 1 10year old Vietnamese male came told he had a possible mortar round. Sent patrol with him to check it out found 1 8" Artillery round, paid him 3 meals of C-rations and destroyed in Place. At 1710hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS760375 and the 2nd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS758398. At 1942hrs Delta Company has moved into their Night Defense Position with Command Post 2nd and 4th Platoon at BS752399, 1st Platoon at BS754376 and 3rd Platoon at BS731422.

 

Echo Company
December 30, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon will continue their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
