Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continue their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0645hrs LTC Fischer has left on the Combat Assault with Bravo Company and he returned to LIZ at 0810hrs. At 0730hrs Helix 34 FAC there is a possibility of putting in an Air Strike on grid BS755380 and BS736414. 1-20 Infantry is putting in Air Strike in at BS735414 and at 0815hrs Helix 34 reports Air Strike is going in at BS735415. At 0913hrs 1-20 Infantry we request Warlord to check the area in the vicinity of BS778478. Ten VC evaded to the rock formations in that area after our Combat Assault. At 1450hrs 1-20 bunker Report all bunker have been checked for plumb bobs and all bunkers are OK. Delta Company CPT Whitaker, (request Engineer to check 18), 1-82 1st SGT Doss, HHC by LT Hardy (Bunker 40 has been rebuilt), and rear by LT Boney. At 1716hrs Major Northquist requests that no more names be used on the PRC 25 or on secure.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. 1-20 Infantry S-4 We received information that M67 (baseball type hand grenades) Lot # MA-117 are good and may be used. Lot # PA 31-2 are (not good) and will be returned to the rear.
Alpha Company
December 30, 1969
At 0650hrs Alpha Company at grid BS786475 the 12 element captured 5 Vietnamese detainees, all male between ages of 19 and 25 years old. Negative ID they were crossing the river in a boat, one had on a blue uniform and one back pajamas, one black pants and white shirt, one with blue pants and black shirt and one light blue shit with dark blue pants. At 0911hrs the 12 element picked up 1 Vietnamese detainee wearing an OD uniform at grid BS788475. At 1130hrs the 22 element is moving out to blow bunkers at BS811442, and the 13 element is at BS790473. At 1135hrs Alpha Company we will move from here to out Night Defense Position and Alpha Company Night Defense Position is at BS799473. At 1800hrs Recon element is at their Night Defense Position vicinity BS766390. At 1930hrs 22 is at BS793467, and 23 is at BS808482. Alpha Company was using saturation patrolling in their Area of Operations. At 1930hrs Alpha Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS810487.
Bravo Company
December 30, 1969
At 0545hrs Bravo Company Ranger are moving from the snake location to checkpoint 1 at BS815406 and closed on checkpoint 1 at 0640hrs. Bravo Company Combat Assault 1st PZ 0645hrs to grid BS783469 and Last LZ at 0700hrs at BS778468. At 0730hrs Bravo Company Command and Control helicopter Dust Off, the Vietnamese detainees with gunshot wounds from grid BS789465. These detainees were dressed in green uniforms and ranged in age from 19 to 25 years old. At 0825 Bravo Rangers have closed on BS783433. At 0855hrs Bravo Company the 99 element when checking out grid BS778469 found one M-26 grenade, one Vietnamese poncho, 2 wallets with no ID or papers, one pair of blue pants (uniform type), two black uniforms, one green shirt, and one sandbag of rice and one empty sandbag. At 0900hrs the 99 element has 4 female Vietnamese detainees 20 to 40 at grid BS778469. At 0910hrs Bravo Company the Gorilla element has 1 male Vietnamese detainee at BS777432. He is approximately 40 years old and wearing white pants and shirt. At 0928hrs Bravo Company we requested a priority Dust Off for 1 RF with M-79 frag wounds of the neck. He received these wounds from friendly fire, completed at 0943hrs. At 0930hrs 11th Brigade the interrogations of the four CIA/WIA that were captured by Bravo Company at 0730hrs and 0745hrs reveal that 6 VC fled to the hamlet in the vicinity of Combat Assault areas and they are now hiding in family bunkers. They are armed with 3 Thompson machine guns and 3 MI’s are low on ammo. Also reveals that the 6 VC with weapons are hiding in family bunkers in Xom Combat Assault, which is about 20 meters from where the sharks wounded the personnel. At 1050hrs the 12 element found one PRC 25 battery, a claymore bag with material to make a firing device, two bottles of medicine, plastic tubes, 2 US T shirts, also ammo cans of brass form M-16, 51 Caliber, and AK-47. We have one male detainee about 15 years old, at 1230hrs the 99 element had found about 50 family bunkers approximate 24 X 15 X 8 feet at grid BS7847. We have burned all the hootches and have out most of the Vietnamese at this time. At 1055hrs Warlord reports conducting a Recon in Force by Warlord in the area of BS774470 and 2 VC/NVA were hiding under a rock ledge. There are also several tunnel complexes in the area. Bravo 99 and Bravo 22 checked out the area and found a cave and some ashes from a fire. Bravo Company late Report 1321hrs, the 99 element found two male KIA from action this morning, they had no ID and are 55 and 25 years old had on maroon pajamas and other one fell into the river but one of the captured males said he was KIA. At 1350hrs Bravo Company the 82, 12, and 14 elements have closed on their semi-permanent positions. At 1525hrs Bravo Company the 17 element will go on a patrol at 0630hrs on 31 December 1969 to grid BS761442 with 10 PF. The Charlie Company reports 15 snake is in location is at BS779442 with 7 PF and all elements have closed on BS783433. At 1850hrs Bravo Company the 85 element is moving to BS785423 and the 26 element is moving to BS783437. At 1950hrs Bravo Company the following elements are in the following locations 86 at BS779402, 85 at BS785423, 26 at BS783437 and 15 at BS782442. At 2015hrs Bravo Company at 0800hrs the 25 and Gorilla element are going to checkpoint 1 at BS778435, checkpoint 2 at BS775429, checkpoint 3 at BS775432 and checkpoint 4 at BS782435. In addition we will set up a blocking fore at grid BS746462 to BS758458 to BS760440.
Charlie Company

At 0845hrs Charlie Company reports all snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 0905hrs Charlie Company had 2 squads of Charlie Company were air lifted to LZ Dragon from LZ Liz, the 1st PZ 0857hrs and the last LZ 0911hrs. At 1405hrs Charlie Company we are leaving LZ Liz at this time en route to BS718428. At 1635hrs Charlie Company location for tonight and tomorrow is BS724437. At 1935hrs Charlie Company the 84 element is in location at grid BS750409.
Delta Company
December 30, 1969
At 0610 Delta Company all elements have closed and at 0810hrs we are moving to our Day Logger at BS748434. At 1910hrs Delta Company 24 element is at BS764436, the 14 element is at BS768437 and the 84 element is at BS772440. At 1940hrs reported the 83 element is in location at grid BS750409. The Delta Company Command Post is at LZ Liz.
Echo Company
December 30, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0600hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Missions 12, Observed Missions 1 with total expend 43 HE and 3WP rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. 4.2 Platoon proceed to your scheduled position, the FO will not be inserted at this time. At 1721hrs 1-20 Infantry to Recon stay in your Night Defense Position tomorrow until the FO is inserted at your location. The people who will work with you will arrive at 0900hrs in the position given you by S-3. They will have 3 Huey’s carrying hook loads. At 1733hrs Recon we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS782385. At 1231hrs Recon Platoon the Engineers have completed their operation and are ready for extraction. We have employed C/S and destroyed a tunnel complex at grid BS773377. At 1450hrs 1-20 Infantry to Recon be at grid BS766390 by 1000hrs to accept TMF.
