At 2135hrs at BS718437 spot 8 to 10 stationary personnel at BS718437 with negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 0100hrs at BS777487 1-5 stationary, negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 0140hrs TMF S71a also had same target with negative clearance. At 0330hrs at BS737464, spotted 4 to 5 stationary and engaged with 20 HE rounds 105 Artillery. At 0405hrs at BS730461 6 to 10 personnel spot that where moving to the east, engaged with 16 HE rounds 105 Artillery. At 1214hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Air Calvary wants Area of Operation Clearance for BOX 66, 021500hrs to 032000hrs September, the Upper left BS6148 to lower right BS720435 cleared by SGT Mason. At 1650hrs MACV Mo Duc last night at 0230hrs 30 to 40 VC has conducted ground attack on refugee camp behind Mo Duc, fired B-40 rockets, hand frag with results 10 civilians were evac, and the VC left by the same route they attacked from. At 1837 Mo-Duc at 020045hrs-020300hrs September 1970, 20 NVA dressed in khakis attacked Quang Hien refugee Camp at BS731541, come from the west and left the same way. 1 PF KIA, 6 WHA, 4 civilians KIA, 6 WIA, 3 homes burned and 4 family bunkers destroyed, the NVA threw grenades into the family bunkers. At 1840hrs Mo-Duc at 012400 September 1970 Duc My Mo Duc PSDF ambushed 6 VC moving from West to east with results 1 blood trail and while evading the VC killed 1 civilian woman and 2 children, by throwing hand frag into the family bunker. At 1845hrs S-5 Wrap Up accompanied Division Artillery Representative and the 6-11 Artillery XO on investigation of Artillery incident at Thach-Thruh Hamlet. Leaflets dropped in Area of Operation in the last 24 hours (138,000) tape time 45 minutes. At 2100rhs TMF at 2038hrs S-73b 4 packs moving to the northeast to southwest at 5 miles per hour, metal confirmation engaged with 16 HE rounds Artillery. Bravo Company is using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today. Bravo company detainee 1 14 years old female, negative ID she is a suspected rice carrier for the VC.

Charlie Company
September 2, 1970

At 1052hrs Charlie Company detained 5 Vietnamese children ages 8-11 at BS716435, spotted coming out of the 515 Valley into the lowlands, carrying fish nets and 2 sandbags with a few fish in them. This is an area where no civilians are supposed to be, detainees will be evac to Military Intelligence. At 1100hrs Charlie Company 67 at BS739409 found 10 fighting positions 3’ wide and 5’ deep, around a mortar position found 100 rounds M-60 ammo, which was destroyed position looked to be 4 months old possible ARVN. At 1440hrs Charlie Company at BS722425 bought from 3 Vietnamese children 1 82mm HE rounds, 2 4.2 HE rounds, 1 81mm HE round, 2 anti personnel mines, 1 M-79 canister round, for 10 meals C Rations monetary Value $1,012 piasters. At 2001hrs Charlie Company the 65 in location at BS735399, the 67 moved out for BS729414, the 64 element in location at BS720425, 53 in location at BS720425, the 25 element moving out for BS714425 and the 26 element is moving out for BS730423 with multiple ambushes moving to their locations.

Delta Company

At 0640hrs Delta Company 83, 53 and 34 elements in Day Logger at BS773367, the 63 element in Day Logger at BS778385. Also reports the 64 ambush closed on BS780388 and the 23 element in Day Logger at BS752402. At 0913hrs Delta Company in reference to 2 booby traps found by Delta Company on 301735hrs August 70. One of the booby traps, was a flashlight laying on a trail designed to detonate when pick up wires led from flashlight to can of Petna beneath flashlight, request the type of trap be made known to all elements. At 1450hrs Delta Company have 33 Vietnamese children detainees at their Day Logger at BS775365, all are tagged and ready for Military Intelligence. The Picked up is a our Day Logger, they stated that VC told them to be out of the area of BS775365 by 1700hrs, also found 2 Chi Com grenades. At 1602hrs Delta Company artillery that was fired earlier started a large fire 1500 meters to the southwest of Day Logger at BS773367, so far have heard 3 secondary explosions. At 1635hrs Delta Company the 86 has found a tunnel at BS767367, 3’ deep, 3’wide, 20’ long checked it out with negative findings, used 40 pound shape charge to destroy it, at 1825hrs. At 1825hrs Delta Company 24 found at BS755380, 3 sacks fill of expended brass, 3 ammo cans which they didn’t open for fear of booby trap, 1 pair GI Jungle boots, 1 steel pot, blew all items in place. At 2000hrs Delta Company 23 in their Night Defense Position at BS757394, 34, 83 and 53 in their Night Defense Position at BS775365, the 65 element is in location at BS786384, and 63 is in location at BS782388.

Echo Company
September 2, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0435hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon reports total expended HE 21, WP 2 and Illumination 22 rounds. Also reports 81mm Mortars expended Illumination 5 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0927hrs Recon Platoon 24 element has negative findings at BS764418 and heading into LZ Liz at this time. At 1925hrs Recon element is moving out to BS756441 and closed at 1947hrs.
