Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations as the Battalion Forward moves to LZ Cork. At 0840hrs Delta Company conducted a Combat Assault 1st PZ 0800hrs and last LZ at 0816hrs from FSB Pepper BS491729 into LZ Cork at BS448612 to establish Fire Support Base LZ Cork. Delta Company secured the LZ until the arrival of Bravo and Delta Batteries 6-11 Artillery and the Command Post Groups of 1-20 Infantry and 4-3 Infantry. At 1540hrs LZ Cork received 6 rounds 82mm mortar rounds results in 9 WHA (E) and, 2 WHA (M) 10 US WHA from Artillery element also 3 WHA from Headquarters element and 2 WHA be came DOA and final total 11 US WHA and 2 US KHA. At 2220hrs 6-11 Artillery LZ Cork requested Dust Off for man with severe internal pains, Dust Off completed at 2250hrs. VERNON LAKE I was terminated at 020600hrs Nov 68 and welcome OPERATION VERNON LAKE II began at 020600hrs Nov 68. At 1320hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports move of Bravo Company 4-3 Infantry from BS504762 to LZ Crown vicinity BS395594. At 1750hrs Aerial Scouts summary report at BS5576 12-15 VC evaded north dressed in black PJ also observed 7 green uniforms and several packs. At 1340hrs at BS5675-BS4975 observed 150 to 200 and pans submerged and weighted. At BS497750 engaged 1 VC results 1 VC KIA and 3 huts destroyed received automatic weapons fire, 1 hit at BS470598 observed 1 camouflaged hut, area had been recently evacuated. At BS438598 observed green ponchos area recently used and evacuated and at BS471608 confirmed mortar position that fired on LZ Cork, engaged 9 NVA at BS457713 report 3 of the 9 KIA were females, uniforms green and CIA 1 SKS and 3 pistols. At 2220hrs 6-11 Artillery request a Dust Off for man with sever internal pains, Dust Off completed at 2250hrs. 6-11 Artillery Reports MAJOR ROBERT GEORGE HUFSCHMID AND CPL DARRELL STEVE LOVE DIED OF WOUNDS ARE LISTED AS KHA from the 6-11 Artillery.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0848hrs at BS920223, Delta Company 19 Engineer Mine sweep had stopped to take a break at Bridge 95 when rocket was fired from, west side of the road and landed next to APC on Bridge 95. Mine sweep and APC opened fire on suspected location 2 EM WHA 2 from Engineer and 2 from E Troop 1 from E Troop and 1 from Engineer(E) and 2 (M) and none serious.
Alpha Company

OPERATION VERNON LAKE II begins Mission: 11 Light Infantry Brigade realigned forces into the Duc Pho Area of Operation and employed ground forces in the DA VACH mountains and subsequently in the Song Re and Song VE Valleys to find, fix and destroy (elements of) the 3rd NVA Division. Alpha Company remained on LZ Pepper for Security Mission.
Bravo Company

At 1006hrs Bravo Company conducted a Combat Assault from LZ Pepper to LZ Patch to secure the LZ. When completed search and clear Operations were stated. At 1549hrs Bravo Company is located at BS434630. At 1750hrs Bravo Company made contact with unknown number NVA results 2 NVA KIA and sweeping the area, results is 2 NVA KIA and 2 AK47 and 1 RPG CIA, grid BS427633. At 1918hrs Bravo Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS426631. OPERATION VERNON LAKE II started.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company conducted a Combat Assault 1st PZ 1055hrs and last LZ 1111hrs from LZ Thunder to LZ Patch. At 1549hrs Charlie Company is located at BS428633. At 1600hrs Charlie Company engaged an estimated NVA Platoon and KIA 2 NVA, 8 packs, 1 AK 47 and captured misc. equipment and documents which in 1 WHA shot in arm and found a small ammo cache and will be evac. At 2240hrs 1-20 TOC reports Charlie Company heard digging noises 200meters from perimeter, fired 81mm southeast of Night Defense Position with negative assessment. At PFC Chalon L. Tuggle with gunshot wound was evac to 312th Evac Hospital.
Delta Company

Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder and 2 squads on LZ Pepper where they continue to provide direct fire support for the LZ Thunder and LZ Pepper. At 1017hrs Recon Platoon conducts a Combat Assault from LZ Pepper to BS416632 completed at 1050hrs LZ 1025hrs cold. At 1549hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS412632.
