Headquarters and Headquarter Company
May 2, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0225hrs 11 Brigade called condition I is in effect cease operations by appropriate authority, activate damage repair teams and medical teams if applicable, continue inspections as required. At 0930hrs LZ Liz Access Road is now open. At 1140hrs MACV Mo Duc, Nui Cau received 10 rounds 82mm mortar vicinity BS746637, negative casualties, at vicinity BS741663 had 1 RF WIA from unknown size enemy force. At 1230hrs Nui Ong Do lost a lot of roofs, wind damage, all populated areas seem to be high and dry. Major Peppers 1-20 Infantry reported when he was on a Visual Recon of the Area of Operation. At 2009hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes Out report, Alpha 9, Charlie 2 and Delta 3 at his time. At 2300hrs LZ Liz Bunker line inspected by LT Neuendorf reports all where satisfactory. Legend: 1st Platoon 51, 2nd Platoon 26, 3rd Platoon 13, 4th Platoon 17, CO-66.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
May 2, 1971

At 0225hrs 11th Brigade called condition I due to bad weather conditions. At 0910hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon is moving out at this time, the Command Post with 4th and 2nd Platoons along with 1st Platoon and 1st Platoon will move to BS704525. At 1807hrs Alpha Company reports all patrols have closed on their locations. At 1837hrs Alpha Company all units in their Night Defense Position Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoons at BS703520 and by 2008hrs 1st Platoon at BS703520 and by 2008hrs 1st Platoon is at BS699512 with 3rd Platoon ambush at BS704528 with 9 Mechanical ambush out.

 

Bravo Company
May 2, 1971

Bravo Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0225hrs 11th Brigade called condition I due to bad weather conditions. Due to weather Bunker inspected for safety and for any damage and the wire is check around the perimeter. At 2300hrs LZ Liz Bunker line is inspected by LT Neuendorf, reports all satisfactory.

 

Charlie Company
May 2, 1971

Charlie Company is using Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. Weather Conditions bad enough that all elements conducted with some limits to safety. At 1805hrs Delta Company all patrols closed for the Day and at 2012hrs Charlie Company all elements in Night Defense Position 2nd Platoon BS727429, Command Post and 3rd Platoon at BS716416 and 1st Platoon at BS723406 with 2 Mechanical Ambush out. At 2030hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon at BS726435 while in Night Defense Position observed 1 trip flare tripped by 1 person, 2nd Platoon engaged with small arms fire and received negative return fire. 2nd Platoon observed 1 VC/NVA evading northeast approximately 75 meters, element of Charlie Company have been alerted to be on watch. At 2105hrs 2nd Platoon patrol closed with negative finding. PFC Robert V. Morgan was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital (11C10).

 

Delta Company
May 2, 1971

Delta Company Weather Poor Tropical Storm Wanda in the area cut back on operation with multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation more of a Security Patrol of their positions. At 1800hrs Delta Company all patrols have closed with 1st Platoon at BS712498. At 1945hrs Delta Company locations is Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS710473, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS713492 and 3rd Platoon at BS705511.

 

Echo Company
May 2, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1830hrs Recon is moving out for BS770412. At 1952hrs Recon vicinity BS768420 en route to their ambush location sighted 39 VC/NVA at a distance of 300 meters they followed the enemy to BS766425 where they employed artillery on the enemy. The enemy moved eastward toward Highway 1, Duc Pho was alerted at 2001hrs. Stinger 87 was scrambled at 2015hrs and Stinger broke station at 2050hrs Radar will continue to observe and are to fire a Road Runner on the target.
