Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0130hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS769531, PF 716 reports both Nui Ong Do Ville and refugee camp are under heavy ground and mortar attack. Request gun ships ETA 20 minutes, presently engaging with artillery. At 0305hrs Mo Duc reports 4 VC KIA, 2 weapons CIA and contact continuing, negative gun ships on station at this time. At 0620hrs Pelican 122 and Saber 73 is on station. At 0358rs OP’s at Nui Ong Do still is contact, Saber 73 is breaking for fuel. At 0420hrs contact broken, Dust Off is requested. A Total Read Out: Nui Ong Do has received approximately 30 rounds 82mm, 60mm and B 40 rockets and small arms fire during attack. With Results 1 PSDF KIA, 1 PF WIA, 10 civilians WIA, Enemy 4 VC KIA and 2 weapons were CIA. At 0335hrs MACV Mo Duc, Duc Quang vicinity BS713637 reports 10 VC entered Ville and wounded Village Chief. Approximately 14 PF that were near by engaged VC, with results unknown at this time, the PF were from PF 149. At 0420hrs MACV Mo Duc, Nui Ong Do vicinity BS769531, request Urgent Dust Off for 6 Vietnamese with frag and gunshot wounds, Dust Off completed at 0505hrs. Evacuated 9 packs, 3 were not wounded, 1 was priority and 5 were Urgent. At 0715hrs TMF String 61 B has stationary target, negative metal confirmed and negative clearance. At 0840hrs Duc Pho MACV vicinity BS780437, this supersedes day previous spot report reference to a mine in Highway 1 and a wounded PF. The mine is suspected to be vicinity BS780437, while the PF were standing on the road a VC sniper apparently fired at them from BS776437 wounding 1 PF, have Alpha Company checking on contact at this time. At 1216hrs Slow Motion 6 has broke station. At 1350hrs S-4 Hornet 362 is on station for re supply. At 1330hrs MACV Mo Duc at Nui Ong Do, Recap on VC Attack on Nui Ong Do Refugee Village. Members of C-19 and possible a squad from C-45 Sapper Company attacked the Nui Ong Do Refugee village: Results 7 VC KIA (1 of which was C-19) 1 AK-47, 6 Chi Com, 1 VC flag CIA. Friendly 1 PSDF KIA, 1 RF WIA, 10 civilians injured, 1 M-79 is MIA. At 1952hrs Recon vicinity BS768420 en route to their ambush location sighted 39 VC/NVA at a distance of 300 meters they followed the enemy to BS766425 where they employed artillery on the enemy. The enemy moved eastward toward Highway 1 and Duc Pho was alerted at 2001hrs. Stinger 87 was scrambled at 2015hrs and Stinger broke station at 2050hrs Radar will continue to observe and are to fire a Road Runner on the target. At 2120hrs MAC Mo Duc vicinity BS731541, requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese friendly with gun shot wounds to the back and frag wounds to the head, completed at 2132hrs. At 2230hrs PF 164/MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS726565, VC attacked Bridge Security Force, results friendly 1 PF KIA, 2 PF WIA with Enemy 2 VC KIA, 3 Chi Com grenades CIA, not confirmed by US. At 2200hrs RF 103/Mat I-4 vicinity BS777470 a stay behind ambush engaged and pursued 8-10 VC WIA being carried. The VC Platoon was engaged with artillery. At 2200hrs LATE SPOT MACV Mo Duc people from Duc Hoai will be dredging mangrove from BS733595 to BS728608 on 14 to 09 March 1971, Request all element avoid fire missions in this area. Legend: 1st Platoon 47, 2nd Platoon 34, 3rd Platoon 92, 4th Platoon 93, CO-99.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 2, 1971

At 0950hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon moving to Dragon, and 1000hrs 2nd and 3rd Platoons moving to Dragon and at 1110hrs the Command Post and 4th Platoon moving to Dragon. At 1140hrs Alpha 1st Platoon patrol is in the vicinity of BS692527. The 2nd platoon Patrol Base is at BS712537 and 3rd and 4th platoon is moving to BS712537. At 1450hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoon Patrol base at BS680550, 1st Platoon at BS678528 and 2nd Platoon at BS676555. At the 1945hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th platoon BS672543, 1st Platoon vicinity BS664528, BS669529, 2nd Platoon BS679556, BS674553, 3rd Platoon ambush was at BS679541.

 

Bravo Company
March 2, 1971

At 0804hrs Bravo Company the Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoons Patrol Base at BS732438 with the 1st and 3rd Platoons Patrol Bases at BS735413. At 1030hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS707437 on patrol found 1 body (NVA) with M-16 bullet wound to head wearing khakis (brownish green) believed to be from their contact on the 28th of Feb at 2045hrs vicinity BS732442. Also found a rucksack with approximately 5 pounds of rice in it. At 1328hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon Patrol is moving to BS740435 and 1st Platoon patrol is moving to BS740420. At 1946hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon BS737437, 1st and 3rd Platoon at BS744401, 1st Platoon ambush BS745414, 2nd Platoon ambush BS734436, 3rd Platoon ambush at BS752410.

 

Charlie Company
March 2, 1971

At 0915hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon moving out for Dragon closed at 1054hrs. Charlie Company is closing on LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission and Road Security.

 

Delta Company
March 2, 1971

At 1250hrs Delta Company at OP Pax requested priority Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese child and 1 PF with minor frag wounds to leg and back, completed at 1305hrs. At 1250hrs Delta Company reference a Dust Off, booby trap was a 60mm mortar round with a trip wire it was located about 150 meters east of perimeter wire of OP Pax in tall grass it was tripped by a cow. At 1320hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon closed vicinity BS735413, and now moving to BS740435. At 1425hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS735413. At 1750hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving to BS686536. Delta Company 1st Platoon had a ambush at BS686536.

 

Echo Company
March 2, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1830hrs Recon is moving out for BS770412. At 1952hrs Recon vicinity BS768420 en route to their ambush location sighted 39 VC/NVA at a distance of 300 meters they followed the enemy to BS766425 where they employed artillery on the enemy. The enemy moved eastward toward Highway 1, Duc Pho was alerted at 2001hrs.
