Headquarters and Headquarter Company
March 2, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0415hrs 1-20 Infantry reports at 2020hrs sighted 4-5 personnel moving west at BS750447 and engaged with 18 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm and at 2050hrs PPS-5 sighted 4-5 personnel moving west at BS745461 and engaged with 9 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortars. At 2040hrs 4 to 6 stationary personnel were sighted at BS745461 and engaged with 10 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm. At 2130hrs 8 to 10 stationary personnel were spotted at BS743488 with negative clearance, at 0125hrs 3 to 4 stationary personnel were sighted at BS736460 and engaged with 18 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortars. At 0315hrs 1 to 5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS743420 engaged with 9 HE rounds of 4.2 and at 0410hrs 4 to 5 stationary personnel were sighted at BS750415 and engaged with 6 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortar fire. At 0545hrs Radar at BS73704147 sighted 6 to 7 personnel moving west and engaged with 6 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortars. At 0637hrs Battalion Commander left Liz on a Combat Assault and returned at 0830hrs. At 0815hrs 1-20 Infantry we picked up one male detainee, age 14, wearing blue shorts and black shirt at grid BS773488. At 0840hrs All Commanders be prepared to be at this location for Commander’s lunch. At 0925hrs The Brigade Commander arrived at LZ Liz and left at 0940hrs. At 0842hrs Primo 4 at grid BS723452 we spotted 5 to 6 VC/NVA from which they believe they received fire. They have 4 KIA and are chasing two more VC/NVA who are evading, they had two ordinary packs and two very large packs. Two had on black pajamas and the other two had on khaki uniforms, we couldn’t see any weapons.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 2, 1970

Alpha Company is using saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1217hrs Alpha Company we request an Urgent Dust Off for one US with gunshot wound to the leg. He received the wound when he jumps off a cliff and weapon discharged, Dust Off complete at 1816hrs. Alpha Company in their Night Defense Position with the following elements moving out 01 to BS746380, 02 to BS745386, 03 to BS746371, 62 to BS756375, 61 to BS750366 and 63 to BS763375.

 

Bravo Company
March 2, 1970

At 0820hrs Bravo Company the 03 element has found 10 large bunkers at BS783491 and request charges to blow them. We also have 9 detainees who will be sent in for interrogation. At 0924hrs the 21 element found two antipersonnel mines at BS794493, which were blown in place. At 1019hrs Bravo Company 02 has 800 pounds of telephone poles, working with the RF/PF continued to patrol and sweep area of their Area of Operation.

 

Charlie Company
March 2, 1970

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0825hrs Charlie Company we request a priority Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female with multiple frag wounds is unknown how she received these wounds, completed at 0837hrs from grid BS760485.

 

Delta Company
March 2, 1970

At 0410hrs Delta Company reports that we are moving to BS804490, BS791485, BS791470 and BS781462 and at 0614hrs Delta Company reports that they are in location. Delta Company 02 found a bunker at BS792470 with mimeographed papers in Vietnamese and group of personnel (Suspected of being VC or NVA) in a picture. At 1400hrs Delta Company we will move to our Night Defense Position at BS788457 and will move from Night Defense Position and run cloverleaf patrols a round the Night Defense Position tonight. Tomorrow morning we will sweep to Red Ball. At 1755hrs Delta Company reports O1 pickup I female detainee, no ID at BS798446, 16 years old. At 1800hrs at grid BS789449, we have 5 VC/NVA 24-29 years of age dressed in black pajamas with 2 having different colors on top, no ID, all 5 are females. At 2010hrs Delta Company put on Alert to be able to move in 15 minutes to LZ of BS717463. This is in case Recon Platoon makes significant in the area they are being Combat Assault to. Once this Platoon has been Combat Assaulted have the entire Company on 15 minutes stand by.

 

Echo Company
March 2, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 5, Observed Missions 7 and Unobserved Mission 9 for expended 70 HE and 23 Illumination 23 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0925hrs Recon 23 and Bravo 66 are moving to BS756437. At 2015hrs Recon Platoon 1st PZ from LZ Liz at 2016hrs to an LZ at BS723452 and at 2028hrs the 2nd PZ at 2022hrs with LZ at 2030hrs. At 2035hrs Recon Platoon at grid BS723452 we found 3 males, 18-20 years old and 1 female, 18 to 25 years of age. There where no ID or packs and two were dressed in black and two were dressed in green. At grid at BS756457 the 23 elements sprung their ambush on 3 personnel. They were about 35 meters from their ambush moving northeast. The results were 3 VC KIA 2 females wearing black pajamas and one with red shirt on and one male wearing black short. The females were carrying baskets with small amounts of rice, tobacco and unknown type of medicine, one female had an ID card. There were no weapons and all were aged in their late 30’s. At 2150hrs Recon Platoon the 08 elements present location at BS723453.
