Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry, Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. Weather, cloudy with heavy rain, winds northwest 10 to 18 knots, temp 73-67, humidity 98 to 85%, out look is for some improvement. At 1700hrs Brigade MACV Area of Operation request Date/Time/Grid 040500 to 050500 Upper Left BS7845 to Lower Right BS8043 approved CPT Parker. Request MACV coordinate with 103rd RF Battalion for that portion of the request that lies with the 103rd Area of Operation. Legend: 1st Platoon 63-68, 2nd Platoon 83-88, 3rd Platoon 33-38, 4th Platoon 03-08, CO-50.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
January 2, 1971
Alpha Company is using saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0710hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 4th Platoon closed vicinity BS753568 and 2nd Platoon closed vicinity BS759557. At 0930hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS743562, 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS768555 and 3rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 grid BS764573. At 1300hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS762556 took 1 incoming M-79 round when the re supply bird came into their LZ. The round landed approximately 150meters from the bird and 75 meters outside the perimeter of the Patrol Base and they believe round came from the east. Alpha Company patrol was sent out the search the area and returned with negative finding. At 1945hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 4th Platoon BS753568, 2nd Platoon BS757578, BS757576, 1st Platoon BS744568 and at BS745565 with 3rd Platoon BS755561, BS754564 and BS759560. At 1945hrs 3rd Platoon vicinity BS758580 received 2 rounds of M-79 fired 5 minute delay between rounds, both landed outside their Night Defense Position, which came from the northwest enemy BS758580, checked out the area with negative finding. At 1947hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS743563 while en route to night location received 1 M-79 round about 35 meters away and came from the southwest at a distance of 150 meter. Engaged with small arms and checked the area out with negative finding.

Charlie Company
January 2, 1971
At 0725hrs Charlie Company Command Post at BS699563, 2nd Platoon BS673572, 1st Platoon BS693538, and 3rd Platoon at BS699563. At 0935hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon at OP Pax was given 2 M-72 Laws by 2 Vietnamese children age 10-11 has visible lot #LS48/54/69. Children were paid 2 meals C-Rations and the laws were blown in place. At 1610hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed on BS673572 and now 2nd Platoon is moving for BS680580.
Delta Company
January 2, 1971
Delta Company set up Patrol bases and use multiple patrolling their Area of Operation again. At 0840hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS755377 with 1st Platoon patrol moving out for BS754372. At 1030hrs S-4 Dolphin 223 is on station for re supply. At 1450hrs Delta Company the 1st Platoon in vicinity BS775377 was given 3 M-79 rounds rigged with a Bouncing Betty fuses by Vietnamese child, 11 years old. The child was given 4 cans of C rations and the rounds were blown in place. At 1515hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS757379, 3rd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS730418 and the 2nd Platoon is going to BS742400. At 1955hrs Delta Company locations Command Post 2nd Platoon and 4th Platoon at BS713404, 3rd Platoon BS721419, BS722416, 1st Platoon at BS755375, BS753377, 2nd Platoon at BS710402.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
