Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 2, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. At 1243hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC complete their Combat Assault to BS348594. At 2125hrs Read Out from Interrogation tonight 1 Charlie Company detained 9 VCS all but 1 was released, 2 Bravo Company detained 3 VCS and these were released in field and 19 Engineer also picked up detainee for total of 2 detainee held.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0700hrs Alpha Company 19 Engineer at BS763473 Mine Sweep Team received fire from 2 VCS, the VCS fled the Mine Sweep Team with 1 VCS CIA, negative weapon taken to LZ Max and later to LZ Bronco. At 0900hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer reports at BS806378 the Mine Sweep Team found mine at location approximate 10 to 15 pounds and blown in place. The fire device was a 105mm Artillery canister with a pressure plate. At 0945hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS724571 to BS740585 found 5 obstacles made of large rocks in road, removed and continued Sweep.

 

Alpha Company
December 2, 1968

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork.

 

Bravo Company
December 2, 1968

Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork Operations with no significant contact. At 1402hrs Bravo Company at BS331594 detained 3 VCS 17 to 20 years old and evac to LZ Cork. At 1450rhs 11 Brigade reports Echo Company (-) 4.2 Mortars has finished their Air Move from LZ Cork to LZ Volunteer and remaining Command Post personnel to join Recon and Battalion TOC.

 

Charlie Company
December 2, 1968

Charlie Company Six Combat Assaulted from PZ BS408617 at 1058hrs to LZ Draftee at BS320596 secured the LZ at 1110hrs until after Bravo Company air assaulted from LZ Cork late into the area. Both companies then swept south along the western side of Song RE Valley to search and clear the area. At 1125hrs Charlie Company at BS317593 detained 9 VCS, 3 with dark green uniforms, 6 with black PJ and 1 had pack with Ammo and evac to LZ Cork for interrogation. At 1430hrs, Charlie Company engaged 1 VC evading and result was 1 VC KIA.

 

Delta Company
December 2, 1968

Delta Company conducted a Combat Assault from BS407614 to LZ Volunteer (BS347595) completed at 1043hrs secured area until the Artillery, 4.2mortar Platoon and Recon arrived. Recon six assaulted from BS494588 to LZ Volunteer assumed security of the Fire Support Base with one Platoon from Delta Company, Delta Company (-) then swept Northeast to search and clear in area. Activities very light in Song Re Valley, with Delta Company receiving sniper fire in the morning resulting in 1 US WHA. In the afternoon they found a small hut complex with a rice and ammo cache. Later in the day they uncovered another ammunition cache in a cavern.

 

Echo Company
December 2, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon remains with the 1-20 Infantry TOC as their Security.
