Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0004hrs Nui Vong at 2356hrs is on practice Alert and over at 0003hrs LT evaluation is satisfactory. At 0126hrs Warlord Black (123 Aviation) in Nighthawk Box 54, Negative findings and extended on grid BS712392 at 0206hrs in NH box 57, took AK 47 fire no hits at grid BS667518 with negative results, broke station at 0237hrs. At 0307hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road, bunker # 2 saw 5 personnel to the north at a distance of 100 meters and they engaged with small arms fire, 81 illumination rounds was fired with negative findings. Sighting will be checked at first light. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry Med Cap in location at BS718593. At 1153hrs 1-20 Infantry US Tank is heading toward Nui Vong. At 1202hrs 1-20 Check with Brigade in reference to a bull dossier scheduled to come to LZ Liz and Nui Vong. Delta Company 26 Engineers promised to have a dossier this location a week ago we one ASAP. At 1410hrs 1-20 Infantry Med Cap completed 462 personnel were treated. At 1450hrs 1-20 Primo 2 (11 Brigade Aviation) is on station and broke station at 1515hrs. At 1605hrs PF 169, 174 found and destroyed 3 bunkers and a tunnel. They also have 6 detainees, 1 12 years old who says he worked with Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry and the VC tried to get information from him pertaining to US operations. At grid BS763379, PF 169 took machinegun fire with negative casualties. At 1730hrs 1-20 Infantry resupply bird broke station at 1730hrs. Warlord Black (123 Aviation) came on station in Box 54, at 2125hrs have moved into Box 57 and at BS664515 took light AK 47 fire, returned fire with negative results and broke station at 2200hrs. At 2050hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 1, Bravo 2, Charlie 4, and Recon 1 for a total 8 out. At 2058hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength Alpha 54, Bravo 54, Echo 22 and HHC 8. At 2145hrs 1-20 Infantry requested 1 mine dog Team for Charlie Company, Pick up Dog team at Administration Pad 1300hrs August 3, 1971. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
August 2, 1971
At 0725hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon moving to BS763150 on Patrol and closed on BS762352 at 0759hrs. At 1300hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon Kit Carson Scout spotted 3 VC with packs and weapons at about 1000 meters on a ridgeline and fire with negative results. At 1928hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon moving into their Night Defense Position at BS759356 and at 1947hrs 2nd Platoon moved into their Night Defense Position at BS759356 and have Mechanical Ambush in their old patrol Base at BS762352. At 1953hrs Alpha Company moved out to their Night Defense Position at BS745380 field strength today is 54 packs.
Bravo Company
August 2, 1971
At 0006hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon had a mechanical ambush detonate at grid BS709436. They could not call artillery since they had an element too close to impact area, will check area at first light. At 0603hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving out to check detonated mechanical ambush at grid BS709436. At 0807hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is located at BS706430. At 0845hrs Bravo Company is at BS708435 and Bravo Company 1st Platoon is at BS725425. At 2008hars Bravo Company 1st Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS729424 with 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position at BS716437 and they will have 2 Mechanical Ambushes out tonight.
Charlie Company

At 0040hrs Charlie Company detected movement approximately from their Night Defense Position, fired artillery and will check the results at first light. At 0705hrs Charlie Company is moving into Patrol Base at BS750376. At 0712hrs Charlie Company is at checkpoint 1 moving to Patrol Base BS750374. At 0940hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS748371 and closed on location at 1050hrs at BS750368. At 1510hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon at checkpoint 2 at BS748369. At 1650hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon found a tunnel complex that has 5 entrances all went about 11.5’ back and looks like at one time was bigger. Also found 1 fuse for a bomb and 1 Bangalore torpedo casing will destroy in place. At 2045hrs Charlie Company is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS745382 and will put out 4 mechanical ambushes.
Delta Company

Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0307hrs LZ Liz access road, bunker #2 saw 5 personnel to the north at a distance of 100 meters and they engaged with small arms fire, 81mm illumination was fired with negative finding but will check out area at first light.
Echo Company
August 2, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1959hrs Recon is in their Night Defense Position at BS725454 with 1 Mechanical Ambush out at BS728457.
