Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 2, 1970
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry is talking over Battalion Operations on LZ Liz. At 1045hrs E Troop we are en route to LZ Dragon. At 1030hrs Intelligence from Mo Duc, Mo Duc captured 2 VC females who stated there are 4 VC, with weapons, hiding in a tunnel at BS783500. Mo Duc is going to react by sending 2 platoons at 1200hrs and will get 1-20 Infantry help if needed and Artillery support if need. At 1045hrs Brigade we request an Air Calvary Mission, #66 in the Date /Time/ Grid 030600 to 031800 in BS6251 and BS7241. We request a gradiometer mission to detect metal in the Date/Time/Grid 030600 to 031800hrs in the area BS7160 BS7455 east to coast and approved by 1LT Bray. At 1150hrs Mo Duc the 51 element of Mo Duc is going with the PF on any operation to BS783500. At 1455hrs Charlie Company 36 returned to their Day Logger after helping hero 25 evacuated the Jump Command Post at BS754642. At 1955hrs E Troop we are in location 300 meters north of the preplanned location at BS776546. Legend: 52-57 is 1st Platoon, 32-37 is 2nd Platoon and 72-77 3rd Platoon and 70 is the Commanding Officer.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
August 2, 1970
At 0730hrs Alpha Company the 52 element spotted a Vietnamese setting up a booby trap and took sniper but the PF engaged too soon at 500 meters, grid BS755616 checked area with negative finding. At 0800hrs, Alpha 54 element requests an Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese with gunshot wound. He the one we spotted setting up the booby trap completed at 0813hrs. Then at 0846hrs Alpha Company 74 element picked up 10 detainees at BS750614. At 1216hrs, the 76 element en route to line up with 75 to check out some personnel, received 25-30 rounds of sniper fire from 2-3 personnel from 150 meters to the east, 6 VC were sighted by the 75 element. The 73, 46, 14 elements checked the area, CIA 1 M-79, (SN74844), one US pistol belt, 3 bandages, rounds of AK 47 ammo. Also 5 M-16 magazines, 30 M-16 rounds, 49 rounds of 045, and misc. items along with a M-26 Hand Frag grenade, found a booby trap 105 destroy, at BS751608.
Bravo Company

At 1300hrs Bravo Company Command Post is at BS705380 1st Platoon at BS713372 to BS715375 and 2nd Platoon at BS713372 to BS712371. Bravo Company continued to use Day Ambushes and Search and Clear operations. At 1806hrs Bravo Company are in their Night positions Command Post BS706378, 1st Platoon BS714369 to BS719371, 2nd Platoon BS713372 to BS715375, 3rd Platoon at BS706374 and 4th Platoon BS709377.
Charlie Company
August 2, 1970
At 0630hrs the Charlie Company 34 element has closed on BS733656. At 1124hrs Charlie Company we request an Urgent Dust Off for Vietnamese female involved in a motor cycle accident she has severe chest injuries and was on her way to Quang Nagi at grid BS733656 and completed at 1130hrs. At 1455hrs Charlie Company 36 returned to their Day Logger after helping hero 25 evacuated the Jump Command Post is at BS754642. At 2003hrs Charlie Company the 35 element is at BS744665 and the 54 element is at BS715622 with the 74 element is at BS703589.
Delta Company
August 2, 1970
At 0640hrs Delta Company the 70 element is at BS763566, the 32 element is at BS753567, the 52 element is at BS752577, the 54 element is moving to BS742585, the 36 element is moving to BS750558 and the 36 element is moving to BS750562. At 0705hrs Delta Company 54 patrol engaged one enemy with a pack who was evading to the southeast at 300 meters. We checked the area found flood trails, he was dressed in all black and he did have a weapon. We found his pack, which had an ID card in it with the name Vuong Luatt, we checked the name with S-2 with no confirmation of a VC. Delta Company continued their saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1218hrs Delta Company 56 engaged two VC at approximately 25-30 meters away and we are in persuaded. In checking the area one VC was founded wound by M-79 fire, and requested Urgent Dust Off, completed at 1230hrs at BS762575. These two VC were evading, one with a pack. The WIA was 35 years, M-79 frag wounds in the right leg, he was wearing shorts. Two Detainee were picked up, both age 17, neither had ID and the female was wearing all black and the male was wearing blue and white. At 1730hrs Delta Company 55 engaged 2 VC at 400meters resulting in one KIA at BS747585 and one evading. The KIA was wearing all green with a pack. The 34 element is in persuaded of the other pack. The KIA had no ID and Kit Carson Scout he is a honcho. Delta Company 34 had two more VC evaded into the underbrush at BS765550. They were spotted at 500 meters moving to the south. Negative other results. At 1830hrs Delta Company the 54 element is in the area where they engaged 4 packs this morning. While the 54 element was chasing those 2 VC at 0730hrs they stopped in the same area and some Vietnamese females were crying. The Kit Carson Scout said they were crying because Delta Company had killed a VC this morning from their Ville. Delta Company could find no body but will check in the morning for new burial spot. At 2005hrs Delta Company the 54 element is at BS749577, the 55 element is at BS752582, the 56 is at BS758572 and the 26 element is at BS756556.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry (Jump Command Post).
