Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 2, 1968
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ O’Connor, with elements cutting the trails, looking for movement down into the Valley leading to the Coast and conducts a Security sweep south of Hiep DUC area looking for building or signs of traffic or build up, into these areas. At 2030hrs Division TOC Term Search and Destroy will no longer be used, operations will be termed Combat sweep, offensive sweep, recon in force and combat patrol.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
April 2, 1968
At 0820hrs Alpha Company will remain in their present location and search area. At 1827hrs observed 20 men in open 1200meters moving west in file formation apart with a point man 10 in front of rest, unable to observe how they were dressed or if they had weapons. Artillery called will adjust found at AT841213 to AT856203 found recently used trail, 1’ to 2’ wide with over head cover, destroyed cover found no weapons or documents. At 0822hrs Alpha Company at AT813245 received 3 rounds small arms sniper fire from 900 meters west, negative casualties returned small arms fire and 4.2 mortar fire, check area with negative finding. At 1015hrs Alpha Company at BS818251 received small arms fire from 400 meters northwest of position checked with negative finding. At 1500hrs Alpha Company at AT815245 received several rounds of small arms fire and 4.2 mortars, F Troop 8 Cav Gun Ships observed a heavy used trail at AT813243 running south up ridge, they also observed 5-6 well camouflaged hootches and destroyed them. Alpha Company set up their Night Position at AT826246.
Bravo Company
April 2, 1968
At 1000hrs Bravo Company at AT843247 joined up with Delta Company 1st and 2nd Platoon and they Bravo company is moving on a Search and Destroy operations At 1020hrs Bravo Company at AT845255 while searching area found camouflage hooch not used recently destroyed. Bravo Company established their Night Defense Position at AT826246.
Charlie Company
April 2, 1968
Charlie Company reported that the extraction of Bravo Company 4-3 Infantry and Charlie Company exchange completed at 1010hrs. At 1602hrs Charlie Company at BS934911 found in hedgerow 1 bolt action weapon and magazine with 4 rounds of ammo Serial Number A4510 date of make 1960, appears to be Russian made. At 1620hrs Charlie Company located at BS645912 engage 3 VC with weapons with negative results, Gun Ships sent to their location to check out the area of contact. At 2140hrs Charlie Company located at BS622910 received 1 Chi Com grenade in their position, picked up grenade and threw back, grenade exploded with 1 US WIA was minor, hit in hip with frag Charles R. Brannur. SP4 Joe Grimes sick (malaria) was evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.
Delta Company
April 2, 1968
Delta Company moved out early to cover the ground between them and Bravo Company and joined up with Bravo Company at AT845255. Delta Company conducts sweep southeast in a Search and Destroy operation and established an OP to see if there was any activity in the area we where pretty far out there at this time and there was some activity in their Area of Operation.
Echo Company
April 2, 1968
Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 1200hrs the Recon Platoon is located at LZ Thunder. At 2045hrs the Recon Platoon is again located with Alpha Company at AT845304.
