Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 29, 1970

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1050hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC on station, Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz for Combat Assault. Saber 79 is on station with light Calvary to work Box 69 X. LOH took fire vicinity BS768549 and saw 3 males, with weapons evading. Fired up area, have destroyed 1 hootch, and have 2 males KIA and 1 male WIA at vicinity BS769539, broke station at 1115hrs. Dolphin 7 is on station for AMC with 8 Utility ships. At 1220hrs 1-20 Infantry S-4 Dolphin 680 is on station for resupply. At 1550hrs S-5 the VIP vicinity BS784430 paid $440 Vietnamese for 2 105mm rounds, and 1 155 round, they had been booby trap. At 2125hrs TMF String 72 C, station target with metal confirmed, engaged at 2130hrs 16 VT HE rounds 105mm Artillery. At 2237hrs TMF String 77C sighted stationary target, negative metal confirmed, negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 2323hrs MACV, PSDF from Duc Loung Hamlet at BS784536, were ambushed by an unknown size VC force, resulting in 3 VC KIA, 1 M-16 CIA, and 1 PSDF KIA. This has not been confirmed by US observation and is rated F-2. At 2400hrs At 2400hrs Weather Warning: south east Asia weather center issued warning MRI, indicating strong winds and heavy rains accompanying a front moving south over Republic of Vietnam, Winds 30 knots, gusting to 40 knots with Rain 3 to 5 inches along the coast, 6 to 8 inches in the mountains the Forecast through 012100hrs December 1970. Flood cautions are warranted. Commanders should be prepared to activate DRCC as situation dictates. And be prepared to render authorized assistance required. Legend: 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th Platoon 32-38 and CO 44.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
November 29, 1970

At 1352hrs Alpha Company upon final extraction of the 2nd Platoon, 1 lift ship shut down vicinity BS754558. 1st Platoon dropped back to that location to secure the ship, it shut down because of power failure bird extracted at 1335hrs. At 1655hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon detained 9 Vietnamese females vicinity BS756570. After further interrogation they are keeping 1 Vietnamese female Tran Thi Lan, age 48, wearing back with negative ID all where found in a hootch. Request that they be evacuated as soon as possible. At 1609hrs Alpha Company requests 1 Urgent Dust Off vicinity BS760584, 1 US with frag wounds to lower extremities, (Name: Robert Davis) completed at 1620hrs. At 1635hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon while moving on patrol had 1 man detonate booby trap vicinity BS760584. Booby trap was on trail with heavy brush on both sides (overgrowth channeled their travel in that direction). Booby trap was hand frag with pressure release firing device. 1 US received frag wounds and a possible broken ankle. At 1730hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon detained 1 male Vietnamese are 46, negative ID, wearing all black. He claims to be a fisherman, name Nguyen Thie. Kit Carson Scout thinks detainee skin is pale, as if he might spend a lot of time underground. Alpha Company reports Robert C. Davis was evac at 1605hrs to 91 Evac with Multiple Fag Wounds to both Buttocks, both legs and left arm. At 2001hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon reports ambush in location BS740576, BS740574, BS740578, 2nd Platoon BS767585 and BS768584.

 

Bravo Company
November 29, 1970

At 0935hrs Bravo Company vicinity BS749584, 3rd Platoon detained 1 Vietnamese male age 15, wearing black shirt and khaki pants and located in a hamlet 100 meters from a known VC Bunker. He appeared to have knowledge of the VC who previously occupied the bunker, will be brought to Liz for evac to Mo Duc moved to LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Charlie Company
November 29, 1970

At 0810hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon is moving out for BS738625, 2nd Platoon to BS743613 and the 3rd Platoon is moving to BS735617. At 1125hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS738627 located 1 VC sleeping position, concealed in a thick tree line. It was 6’ long and 4’ wide and 4’ high. Sides were made of dried wood and the roof was thatched. Capacity was 2-3 people. It was last used 4 days are according to the people, it was destroyed. At 1915hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon ambush in location vicinity BS739635, 3rd Platoon ambush vicinity BS738610. At 1950hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon in location vicinity BS740628.

 

Delta Company
November 29, 1970

Delta Company continued to patrol in their Area of Operation. At 1035hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving out for BS660563. At 1110 Delta Company 1st Platoon is at checkpoint 2 vicinity of BS663560 and 2 Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity of BS684557. At 1140hrs Delta Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon lined up vicinity BS678566. At 1915hrs Delta Company 1st and 2nd Platoon Command Post BS678566, 3rd and 4th Platoon at BS664568, 3rd Platoon ambush BS659574 and 2nd Platoon Ambush at BS682554.

 

Echo Company
November 29, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0648hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for LZ Liz. At 0730hrs Recon Platoon has closed on LZ Liz and continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
