Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0140hrs 11 Brigade vicinity BS812383 that at 0140hrs receiving heavy incoming fire, will give more details later. At 0207hrs 11 Brigade incoming fire stopped received in excess of 82mm mortar rounds 3 WIA (E). At 0312hrs 1 HU1D Major Damage Brigade Aviation, 2 HU1D minor damage, 1 H23 minor damage 174 Aviation, 2 HU1D Dust Off Major Damage, 2 tents destroy, 20 tents damaged, 6 field ambulances damage, 1 bull dozer damage, 2 front loaders damage, AF Medivac radio destroy. A&D Facility Dental Clinic damage, 1 Orderly Room damage, 1 supply room damage and many trucks with flat tires. Total Casualties: 2 KHA, 7 WIA (E) with 34 WIA (M). TRISTAL MACIAS WAS LISTED AS KIA (see Alpha Company). At 0115hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer vicinity at BS867316 received 7 hand grenades, no Casualties or Damage and found 1 homemade hand grenade.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company searched the area in vicinity AT9931, and engaged with sniper fire, 1 US KHA and 2 WHA, as Alpha Company moved to AT995314 to AT996314. At 0812hrs Alpha Company at AT996317 found a fresh grave with 4 bodies dressed in green uniforms, appeared to be about 10 days old, they also found some documents on the bodies which have red stamps on them, 25 meter from this location they found another fresh grave with 2 bodies in it, appeared to been killed by small arms fire and unit will not count these bodies. At 0907hrs Alpha Company at AT984315 in contact with 4-5 snipers unit is moving to surround enemy with results 3 US WIA, at 1500hrs change to 1 KIA and 2 WIA. AT 0900hrs Alpha Company at BT080388 the road is washed out at above grid between LZ Baldy and LZ Ross, No eta, the road is impassable. CPL TRISTAL MACIAS LISTED AS KHA (MEDIC FROM HEADQUARTER COMPANY). PFC Gary R. Cooper with gunshot wound of left thigh and PFC David F. Scott gunshot wound of left face where attached to the NSA Hospital DA Nang.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ryder and will be conducting local Security Patrols in their Area of Operation along with local OP. At 0908hrs Bravo Company at 963363 observed 3 NVA walking into ambush engaged 3 NVA with results 6 NVA KIA, 2 wore gray uniforms, 1 wore black PJ. All wore pistol belts with red stars on them, poncho’s, billfolds, and hammocks all equipment was evac.

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Ross with responsibility for keeping Road open.
Delta Company
May 29, 1968
Delta Company (-) was to sweep and clear the area in the vicinity BT0057. While Delta platoon was to move by a Recon in Force to the south to vicinity BT0147 and return to Delta Company. Delta Company Continued to Sweep and Clear operation to AT975345 to AT97340. At 1632hrs Delta Company at AT977323 received 4 rounds small arms fire from across the river and returned fire and firing stopped negative casualties, will not cross river to check results. At 1633hrs Delta Company at AT972315 engaged 3 VC 200 meters north of position with results 1 VC KIA and 2 VC evaded. At 1655hrs Delta Company received 15 to 20 rounds of small arms fie from 300 meters south west believe fire came from 6-7 different locations and calling artillery now. Results negative casualties at this time, fired artillery vicinity AT978330 and moving to check area now.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon manned OP Tiger, Cobra and Dragon. AT 1020hrs Recon at BT012376 received 20 to 30 automatic weapons fire and returned fire with Mortar fire on suspected location now, no casualties of damage.
