Headquarters and Headquarter Company
June 29, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 005hrs South OP, had 1 trip flare ignite on southeast part of hill, engaged with M-79 fire and 1 round of Illumination on Defense Target #4, negative findings. At 0705hrs Charlie Company at Bronco vicinity BS818383 requested Urgent Dust Off for 1 man on Bronco who drove a truck off the hill. Man had crashed ribs and back injuries, Bird # 5 Dust Off completed at 0747hrs. Base Defense had no Commo so Dust Off was called through us, Morgan, Robert V. PFC, in Charlie Company assigned to Base Defense truck # HQ 140. PFC Robert V. Morgan was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 6 is on station at this time and breaks station at 1023hrs. At 1630hrs RF 172 vicinity BS733575 were on road security, they were sniped at results is RF KIA and 1 RF WIA, US confirmed. At 1955hrs MACV Mo Duc at 1700hrs vicinity BS716600, 1 jeep while going south on Highway 1 with elements of MAT I 26 and 4 received 4 to 6 small arms fire 80 to 90 meters to the east, negative casualties and unknown size enemy forces. At 2029hrs LZ Liz came under 100% Alert status after bunker #1 on the north side of road. Engaged with small arms fire and observed one VC evading to Northwest, also received 15 rounds of AK 47 fire, 100% achieved at 2033hrs, Cease fire called at 2035hrs and guards went back to 25% Alert. Also Bunker 16 received 5 rounds of AK 47, same VC that engaged Bunker 1 or the access road, negative casualties, VC evaded to Northeast. At 2320hrs Warlord Blue is on station and at 2323hrs reports in Box 62, found sleeping positions at BS826268 will Recon by fire. At 0005hrs Warlord Blue is out of 62 and into box 61. At 0040hrs Warlord is out of 61 and into box 60X and at 0119hrs Warlord reports negative findings and going to Chu Lai. Legend: 1st Platoon 17, 2nd Platoon 44, 3rd Platoon 56, 4th Platoon 23, CO-64.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
June 29, 1971

Alpha Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0900hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon is moving out to checkpoint 1 at 709399. At 10002hrs 1st Platoon Patrol closed on 716405. At 1705hrs Alpha Company vicinity 716405 requests Urgent Dust Off for 4 US with multiple frag wounds resulting form booby trap, trap wire waist high on trail, Dust Off completed at 1725hrs by Dusty 54. The line# S4939 Shaffer, Leonard L., #C5996 Campbell, Bruce E., #M6935 Murphy, Richard T., R9359 Romero, Donald J. At 1813hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon Security Patrol closed on Nui Vong. At 1841hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 1st Platoon in their Night Defense Position. SP4 Bruce E Campbell and PFC Donald J. Romero where attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.

 

Bravo Company
June 29, 1971

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco and the Brigade move North to LZ Dottie and the 4 Battalion of 21 Infantry preparing to return home.

 

Charlie Company
June 29, 1971

Charlie Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1815hrs South OP had a trip flare ignite on southeast part of hill engaged with M-79 and 1 round of illumination on DT #4 negative finding. Echo Company
June 29, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1258hrs Recon is at Alpha Company location at BS716405. At 1740hrs Recon is moving to Night Defense Position vicinity BS702425. At 2018hrs Recon has closed on their Night Defense Position vicinity BS702425 at this time.
