Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0230hrs 1-20 Infantry was notified that all Visual Recon have been cancelled due to the weather. At 1820hrs 1-20 Infantry requested Guns for OP Frag which was under attack with negative Artillery Clearance and the Request was approved.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission on LZ Liz along with Road Security vicinity BS760435 to BS776435.
Bravo Company
January 29, 1971
Bravo Company continued to operate from BS682582 and conducted multiple patrols and multiple Day and Night Ambushes in their Area of Operation. Bravo conducted Day ambushes vicinity BS683582, BS682581, BS679583, BS679582, BS691577, BS691577, BS694576 and BS690577. Conducted patrols in Upper Left BS6759 and Lower Right BS7057. At 2005hrs Nighthawk LT Magruder called CPT Mendeza Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry Combat assault was cancelled.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to work with multiple ambushes and multiple patrols in their Area of Operation and Charlie Company working with RF units with joint operations and working on OP at BS699562. At 1535hrs Charlie Company while on patrol tripped a booby trap made of 1 small can of Petna with trip wire strung across trail, with results 1 US WIA requested Urgent Duct Off and was completed at 1550hrs to LZ Bronco. At 1730hrs Charlie Company at BS687566 received 3 rounds of small arms fire from about 200 meters to the northwest returned fire and checked area with negative finding. Charlie Company set up their Night Defense Position at BS699562 and BS689533. PFC Robert A. Holden was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital with multiple frag wounds both legs.
Delta Company

Weather: Variable cloudiness wind northwest 5-12 knots, Temp 76-68 Humidity 50-70%. At 1822hrs OP Frag at BS753568 was under attack at BS757565 approximately 800 meters from the west and Gun were mustered at 1825hrs. Guns on station at 1835hrs spotted 2 VC engaged with unknown results and the 3rd Platoon swept area with negative findings. At 1820hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon patrol sighted 12 VC in the open, requested Artillery with negative clearance. Gun-ships came on station expended all their armament, reporting a possible 2 KIA. He broke station at 1900hrs at which time the element swept the area with negative results. 1825hrs Delta Company vicinity BS717429 requested a routine Dust Off 1 US with high temp Jack Ingle completed 1900hrs.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1206hrs Recon reports their location at BS695600. At 1400hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Snoopy.
