Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 29, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0355hrs 1-20 Infantry TMF reports at 2355hrs sighted 3 to 5 stationary personnel and engaged with 8 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm. At 1045hrs Primo has 1 confirmed KIA in a green uniform with no weapon. He has a pack and is at grid BS712495 and the Alpha Company 93 element will react to it with a Combat Assault. At 1140hrs Helix 01 we are putting in an Air Strike into BS804474 and BS801472. At 1250hrs Primo 4 went down at BS714486 due to mechanical failure with negative casualties.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
April 29, 1970

At 0745hrs Alpha Company the 53 element is moving out to link up with the 96 element, the 33 element is at BS738449 and the 70 element is at BS753453. At 1025hrs in the Combat Assault of A33 and 93 elements to BS722490 the 1st PZ at 1000hrs and last LZ at 1020hrs both LZ where cold. At 1113hrs Alpha Company 93 Combat Assaulted in to BS710489 and at 1155hrs Alpha Company 93 element is sweeping through the Primo KIA and found 2 VC KIA and one VC evaded. We found no weapons but found 12 Chi Com grenades and AK 47 ammo. Primo 4 has spotted movement team will be going in with the A 33 and A 34 elements at stand by. At 1430hrs Alpha Company 33 element is now checking, the cave area and have found on VC/NVA who was engaged and became a KIA. At 1250hrs 11 Brigade Aviation at BS716486 LOH crashed due to receiving small arms fire and unknown amounts of hits in the engine with results 2 US WHA (M). Alpha Company is securing LOH, air craft was a total loss and will be destroyed by gun ships. They found a quality of Chi Com grenades and satchel charges along with some cooking utensils and 15 pounds of rice (grid BS713491). Alpha Company 33 found one M-16 and a pack containing some clothing and small quantity of rice. They were found in a cave at BS714486 and items that will be evac to Bronco.

 

Bravo Company
April 29, 1970

Bravo Company again will work with MACV in joint operations using sweeps and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0815hrs Delta Company 39 Engineer at BS758489 RF told mine sweep team of a booby trap found a 105mm Booby Trap with pressure type firing device next to a culvert and destroy it in place.

 

Charlie Company
April 29, 1970

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0730hrs the 97 element is moving out and the 36 element is closing on Liz. The 55 element is in location on the Access Road. At 1935hrs Charlie Company reports 55 element is in location on the Access Road.

 

Delta Company
April 29, 1970

Delta Company set up Patrol Bases and patrolling their Area of Operation. At 0741hrs Delta Company reports their Day Logger locations the 93 and 73 will be at BS763373 their Night Defense Position the 53 is at BS755394 and the 33 and 70 will be at BS775390 all snakes have closed. At 0945hrs 55 element found U shaped trench line and spider holes in the side, 3-5 meters apart, at grid BS752394. The trench line and overhead cover was about 2 weeks old. We request 12 40pound shaped charges with blasting caps and det cord to blow the trench. Delta Company in the same location at 1001hrs found cache of 30 pounds of unpolished rice and was destroyed at BS752394. At 1800hrs the Delta Company the 33 element working with Chieu Hoi and have captured 1 AK-47 serial # 12053, which was very old and no operational. At 2043hrs Delta Company the 95 element is at BS773374, the 45 element is at BS753383 and the 35 element is at BS775386.

 

Echo Company
April 29, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon reports their location on LZ Liz with their Security Mission.
