Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0705hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary checked area of Mechanical Ambush detonated at 1900hrs, results 2 enemy KIA, 1 WIA and 1 M-16 CIA. At 0715hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary at BS664555, routine Dust Off for 1 enemy with shrapnel in leg from Mechanical Ambush completed at 0825hrs. At 0830hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary further search of area of Mechanical Ambush resulted in AK-47 in good condition, 1 magazine inoperable, found at BS665570 serial # of M-16 1304743. At 0925hrs Bravo Company Wrap Up Mechanical Ambush detonation. The WIA age 20 to 23 2 KIA could not tell the age, because of the damage from the explosion, the WIA stated he was a member of K55, which is a VC local force, and had only been with the unit 15 days. Also stated there were no NVA in the immediate area, but there were some NVA farther west in the mountains would say no more. He is being interrogated by Military Intelligence had multiple frag to the leg, the WIA and KIA were all wearing green tops, black cut of bottoms, also got 1 small notebook and 3 wallets, on the way to Military Intelligence at this time. At 1050hrs Alpha Company point element on the Red Ball at this time at BS720586, Task Force Honijiyo completed at this time. At 1125hrs Alpha Company and Recon on trucks inbound to LZ Liz. At 1130hrs Brigade results of interrogation of PW by Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary POW was VC of K55 AKA 21 Regiment has 5 men in the area he was captured. There is a hospital located at BS615515 consisting of 7 hootches at Thien Xuan Hamlet of Hghia Phu Village in Nui Thi District, POW is a VC from Nghia Thuan, the M-16 captured by Bravo Troop belongs to him. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. PFC Timothy Caraway was attached to 91st Evac Hospital. (Believe a medic with Delta Company)
Alpha Company

At 0655hrs Alpha Company 54 found at BS665578, 3-400 pounds of unpolished rice, this harvest, locally grown, it was found in a 6 man bunker position, and is in good shape. B Troop 1-1 Calvary will bag and pick it up. At 0755hrs Alpha Company has reached the river at BS706586 is moving east. At 0905hrs Alpha Company at BS689589 point element spotted and engaged 2 enemies in bushes at 150 meters, 1 wearing back and carrying a pack, checking area with negative finding. At 1050hrs Alpha Company point element is on the Red Ball at this time at BS720586 (TASK FORE HONJIYO IS COMPLETED AT THIS TIME). At 1127hrs Alpha Company and Recon on trucks is bound to LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission.
Bravo Company

At 1010hrs Bravo Company at BS712581 requested routine Dust Off for US temporary blindness due to cook off from 90mm request EOD team to check weapon completed at 1025hrs. At 1310hrs Bravo Company 54 and 12 elements received several rounds sniper fire from BS732620, 7-800 meters to their east, they have US with gunshot wound to foot, required priority Dust Off. At BS726614, 54 and 12 elements sweep into area with negative finding, are now back in location for Dust Off, completed at 1344hrs, (Carway). Bravo Company priority Dust Off at BS732607, PF who stepped on a booby trap had multiple frag wound to both legs, 2 Chi Com with a trip wire across the trail, PF is with the E-18 MACV. Dustie 88 took 8 rounds small arms fire while on the ground from the northeast completed at 1346hrs. At 1415hrs Bravo Company has a Priority Dust Off, 12 and 54 element received sniper fire from northeast vicinity BS733612 pulled back to BS735605 where they have a secure LZ had US gunshot wound right arm completed at 1440hrs. Bravo Company reports PFC Timothy Caraway at 1300 to 91 Evac Hospital with gun shot wound left toe (Medic) and PFC Oliden Williams was evac to 91st Evac Hospital on September 29, 1970.
Charlie Company
September 28, 1970
Alpha Company Point element on the Red Ball and Task Force Honjiyo is completed at this time. Charlie Company 1015hrs started multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1555hrs Charlie Company at BS667502, the 57 element found 1 enemy ambush site, 1 to 2 weeks old, consists of 3 fighting positions, and 2 sleeping positions cut into the grass. There was aiming stakes and a mortar location with 1 60mm tail cartridge (# M-2-M-19) 75 meters south found 6 spider holes in a L shape looking out of holes in hedgerows, 3’ deep, 2’ wide by 2’ also at this location they found 4 steel beams 1’ by 5’. At 1722hrs Charlie Company and tracks moving out for BS649504 and the Charlie Company 12 element has stopped moving at 1900hrs due to suspected enemy movement 2 platoons checking area of BS653507, using Recon by fire the brush area with negative findings. They then closed on Night Defense Position at BS654504. At 2010hrs Charlie Company the 84 element at BS656502, 34 at BS649505 and 56 at BS650502.
Delta Company

At 0610hrs Delta Company at BS717561 made a requests for priority Dust OFF for 1 US with twisted ankle, #75 C, completed at 0705hrs (possible Medic). At 0706hrs Delta Company all element moved out to link up with Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary at BS705554. At 1530hrs Delta Company 56 element is moving out for BS672578 and the 57 element is moving out to BS659578. At 1652hrs Delta Company 57 closed on BS715557, 54 moving out for BS655576 and 56 is moving out for BS65658. At 1700hrs Delta Company 36 element is moving out for BS673553. At 1720hrs Delta Company the 57 element closed on BS673578, the 54 element moving out for BS655516 and the 26 element at checkpoint 2 at BS676553. At 1830hrs Delta Company and TMF main locations of TMF at BS661584, BS664580, with LP 100 meters east and west of these locations. At 1841hrs Delta Company 35 ambush moving to BS649573, the 56 ambush moving to BS656574, and 56 Patrol has closed. At 2000hrs Delta Company all elements are in location Command Post at BS667574, 84 at BS673587, 86 at BS672588, 55 at BS649573, 56 at BS656574, 34 at BS671575 and 35 at BS676575.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for (1-20 Infantry) TASK FORCE HONIJYO. At 0830hrs Recon Platoon with Alpha Company and Bravo Company 84 have all link up at BS706586. At 1050hrs Alpha Company point element on the Red Ball at this time at BS720586, Task Force Honijiyo completed at this time. At 1125hrs Alpha Company and Recon on trucks inbound to LZ Liz. Recon Platoon returns to their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry. At 1830hrs Recon Platoon at South Bridge moved out, dogs given to Recon at 1836hrs, white team on station 1815hrs broke at 1850hrs found nothing suspicious, but did find a couple of small bunkers, used recently at BS803415. At 1925hrs Recon Platoon in objective area, set up in wood line as preplanned, mine dog can not work at night, will search area in the morning, they are now located at BS803415.
