Headquarters and Headquarter Company
June 28, 1968

Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder as the Battalion returns to Control of the 11th Light Infantry Brigade Control in the Duc Pho Area of Operation. At 0950hrs Charlie Company 19th Engineer at BS915255 received 30-50 rounds of semi and automatic weapons fire, had artillery fired with results unknown at time, recommend sending US troops into area to check results of artillery fire. Village in vicinity or fire was set afire is burning at this time, had clearance from District Chief in Duc Pho. At 1338hrs 1-20 Infantry reports OPCON Delta Company 4-21 Infantry at BS706496 found several fresh camp fires along river bank, still searching area. At 1535hrs 1-20 Infantry reports 1 Platoon from E Troop with scout dogs that were working with Alpha Company closed on LZ Bronco at 1245hrs. At 1555hrs Delta Company 19th Engineer at BS924228 received 16 rounds small arms fire from western side of road searched area with negative results or casualties. At 1930hrs 1-20 Infantry reports OPCON Delta Company 4-21 Infantry Night locations LZ Dragon with 20A at BS714505, 21 roving patrol BS721504, BS718516, and BS721526. Late entry PF on bridge #115 BS789417 report that they have received approximately 20 mortar rounds, are firing artillery on suspected mortar location.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
June 28, 1968

At 1100hrs Alpha Company at BS783436 located a bunker, searched and found some books, will evac to LZ Bronco. Observed 1 VCS evading and results one VCS CIA 20-25 to IPW. At 1840hrs Alpha Company (-) reports their locations at LZ Liz with ambushes at 13 BS780425 and 21 BS759444. At 1951hrs at BS758441, while moving to ambush position received 2 burst of automatic weapon fire, negative casualties returned fire, called for illumination for results at 2135hrs at BS746450 observed light approximately 1500 southwest of their location fired 81mm on target light went out.

 

Bravo Company
June 28, 1968

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 0910hrs Bravo Company is at BS865335 hit a booby trap results 2 WHA (E) Dust Off completed at 0910hrs. At 1840hrs Bravo Company (-) reports on LZ Thunder with 20 Night Defense Position at BS838393 with ambushes at 20 BS841394 and 32 at BS813363. At 1951hrs Alpha Company 21 at BS758441, while moving to ambush position received 2 burst of automatic weapons fire, negative casualties returned fire call for illumination for results negative results. At 2135hrs at BS746450 observed lights approximately 1500 meters south west of their location, fired 81mm rounds on target and lights went out. SP4 Clifton H. Keith and SP4 William O. White were attached to 2nd Surgical Hospital sick at 1100hrs.

 

Charlie Company
June 28, 1968

At 0741hrs Charlie Company at BS804309 found a booby trap, trip wire leading from pike of rocks across a trail destroyed. At 1940hrs Charlie Company observed small fire possibly campfire, called Artillery at 1948hrs grid BS805318. At 1940hrs Charlie Company reports they have moved into their Night Defense Position at BS814295.

 

Delta Company
June 28, 1968

At 1836hrs Delta Company is at BS885270 with ambushes 21 BS882269, 22 BS885265, 31 BS899291, and 32 BS894295. At 1930hrs Delta Company 20 at grid BS724518 received 1 sniper round Delta 6 thinks it was ricochet from RF-PF in area negative casualties. At 2003hrs Delta Company at BS889293 received approximately 30 rounds from 3 automatic weapons also 3 M-79 rounds returned fire with negative casualties and negative results.

 

Echo Company
June 28, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. John R. Kendaja was evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.
